Every year I have watched with interest and excitement as all of these types of threads have progressed to offers.

Finally in the same boat. The Christmas prep is wearing...And couldn't find anyone to share the experience with.... hence this attempt to start one....

Anyone else want to join? If I have missed a school... please feel free to still join in and add your school of interest.

Currently burning the night oil trying to find more comprehension material... anyone have any online suggestions?

Funnily enough, I've never needed to go... I'm reliably informed by my DSs that it is very very dull.

AuntPol · 19/05/2017 18:54

Thank you seeline. I'm glad it's not just me that thinks it's a bit pointless to send the invites out now...

Aw, soupdragon, you're not alone - I'm not expecting to ever have to go either

SoupDragon · 19/05/2017 19:48

Every year I am both disappointed neither of them managed to win a prize and relieved that I don't have to sit through it :o

SoupDragon · 19/05/2017 19:49

DS1 had his last day at T today. [wail]

AuntPol · 19/05/2017 22:07

Shock wow, does that feel as though it's come around very quickly? On the plus side, that's one set of school fees finished...

SoupDragon · 19/05/2017 22:10

I'm sure he only started reception last September!

XH pays the school fees unfortunately. On the plus side though, DD starts private secondary September :o

SoupDragon · 19/05/2017 22:11

He's had such a great time at T though. :)

Glad to hear your DS1 enjoyed it all the way through. My DS1 is loving the junior year. DS2 may try for 10+ this year. Must be almost time to start a new 2018 thread...

Seeline · 20/05/2017 18:06

Gosh Soup - can't believe that your Ds is leaving!

I've only had to go to 1 prize giving. I can confirm that that one was fairly dull - it must depend on the guest speaker though. I was unlucky. It was incredibly hot though. I couldn't believe the number of parents who went along just for fun - no DSs receiving prizes Confused

Has anyone's son started at Whitgift/Trinity this term? Has is lived up to expectations so far?

Pickofthepops · 02/10/2017 14:45

Hi joining to investigate as an option for my Y5 son. Would be really grateful for any pointers to other relevant threads. Thank you :-)

Seeline · 02/10/2017 14:49

there are similar threads going back several years if you search. I haven't seen one start for this year yet.

I would suggest starting a new one, and then ask about specific schools/questions.

DST10 · 02/10/2017 15:17

My DS started at Trinity in the Junior form, and absolutely loves it. He’s a sporty kid and has really enjoyed all the opportunities he’s had in that regard, and seems to be thriving academically as well.

Have nothing but good things to say about all our experiences with the school so far!

RoseyHill · 02/10/2017 21:45

My son has just started at Whitgift yr 7. He has joined from a small state school and we are absolutely blown away by the school, its staff and the incredible facilities. I realise it's early days but the commitment and passion of the teachers is quite inspiring. DS has a long day but he is coping well and feels very proud to be at his new school.

Gettingthroughtheweek · 04/10/2017 21:31

My DS has also started junior year at Trinity this term. So far we're all really impressed- he's involved in so many clubs (even choosing rugby - which was a huge surprise for a non-sporty boy - and they've even got a third rugby team so they all get a chance to play in teams) - as well as music, drama, chess ... and the lessons are so much more interesting than primary school. He is falling asleep by 8.30 though....

Some not-so-great things about Whitgift . medium.com/@JimmyTLeach/bullying-happens-when-the-school-is-the-enabler-cac27010c4f5

Wimbles101 · 03/11/2017 20:55

My son is at Trinity and although he loves it we’ve really been taken aback by the amount of homework and how strict they are already being with the boys. Something to be aware of....

Dear all,
My DS has got a place in T but no scholarship!!! We were really hoping to get at least in one of the areas we had applied for, gutted that the offer came will full fees. I am really pleased to receive the offer but have some questions on my mind. We thought of giving 10+ a shot and would take it incase of scholarship. Alternatively thought would try again next year while simultaneously trying for grammar schools. But now nervous to decline this offer. Grateful if someone can help with the questions!!!!!

  • do they get an opportunity to sit for a scholarship exam every year after joining the school, I have a strong feeling that the exam day turned out to be a bad day for my DS as he is academically very strong. I am hoping he would get a scholarship if he takes another exam say next year after entering the junior form,if that is the only option.. so the question is are scholarships only offered at the kids entry point?
  • does turning down a 10 + offer affect his chance for 11+ entry?
  • is there a possibility to speak to the admissions team about his entrance test performance?
Sorry about the lengthy post, I am nervous on turning down the offer in case he doesn't get into s grammar school for his 11 plus Thanks in advance

You need to be in the Secondary Education but as there is a big thread this year dealing with all this Smile

citykat · 13/02/2018 13:19

Sorry, see you are already. Ignore me.

HundredAcreWood · 16/02/2018 08:36

Hi I am new to Mumsnet. Our DS has been offered a 10+ place at Trinity but we are stressing a bit about sending him on the school bus (from Godstone/Oxted). Anyone have experience if that transport, or otherwise travelling to Trinity from the Oxted area?

SchoolQuest · 07/03/2018 00:13

A very quick question, what is the deadline to accept the offer from Trinity for 11 plus? I had applied for my son for 10 plus and I had to give the acceptance before 23rd February, is it the same case for 11 plus as well? Just wondering if the parent is expected to make a decision before 1st March the National Offer day for Secondary state schools?

Thanks
