Anyone still out there?!

Thanks Brownsugar. When we last looked at Elmhurst it did feel as if most boys were after the grammars. But yes, 10+ is clearly very popular at present!

Out of interest, has either school (assuming you're doing both) queried the fact that ds is resitting?

From our limited experience we've seen a couple of boys get interviews for W but not T, which suggest that the bar might be higher there at present for entry, but not yet sure on scholarships. No doubt time will tell.

Someone queried what happens if a potential scholar has an off day. I think this happened to Soupdragon2 last year, but the evidence of a Whitgift scholarship and Wilsons place help negotiations post offerday. I assume that essentially transferring a fees reductions between the foundation schools is not a huge dilemma, which is one of the reasons why most boys sit both. Obviously already having a scholar there helped.

LadyM, not more than 5 Elm boys passed the grammars this time round (don't quote me Grin )
Ds only sat T last year but got a Full Fees offer as we hadn't applied for any schol or bursary. He's got his interview this week at T so will be having a chat with the HM.
Recalling from my chat with the HM last year, he did mention that regardless of how Ds does, it will not be put against him when resitting but I guess that's based on Ds not doing so well rather than when an offer has been made!
In terms of off-day, I personally think that's where the prep HM comes in.

I don't know if this will help any DM for 10+. One DM told me last year that instead of rejecting an offer from T, you can deferred it. Anyone to shed some light on this?

Have just spent the last 15 mins screaming with DS out of the blue had a call from Reeds foundation requesting a home visit this week ( thank god I got the sofa cover back from the cleaner which means that he got through the exam and interview so I'm not sure if it is a formality and his got a place subject to funding OR they then short list further (anyone know ?!! ) but am relieved at least his in the running was convincing myself that maybe i was deluded and he wasn't as bright as I seemed to think he was . the only downside is Im going to have to move to find the fees as I think its about £2.5k a term and daddy isn't prepared to pay a penny ( funny bet he'll play the proud father when it suits him tho ) really don't care at the mo tho am guessing this is how a lottery win feels .... Apart from I'm paying the money instead of receiving. Ok time to lay down can't take the shock

Teddingtonmum1 · 27/01/2014 19:20

So I guess everything is for a reason ladym as you said

MrsSteptoe · 27/01/2014 20:30

Oh, I'm THRILLED for you, Teddingtonmum! That's the best news. Sod Daddy, you can just tell DS (when he's older and you are old enough to be blatantly manipulative because you're in a purple hat and smell of brandy) that it was all down to you.

Still slightly puzzled by the home visit thing, but God knows I'd leap through any hoop by this point. This process has left me with no pride whatsoever.

Teddingtonmum1 · 27/01/2014 21:22

Thank you mrs S can't bloody believe it though just had my oven door shattered talk about too much bloody good luck !! But its ok ....
I have no idea I think its a verification thing that I don't live in a mansion and have a Van Gogh on the wall . fingers are even tightly crossed well no dinner for me its trapped in the bloody oven .

AliceLostinWonderland · 27/01/2014 21:40

Congratulations Teddingtonmum!
Though I have never heard of "home visits" at 10+/11+ stage. I thought this usually happened during Reception class admission. Did you ask them the purpose of the visit?

Somelikeithott · 27/01/2014 22:09

Congratulations Teddingtonmum, and to your DS. I hope and pray that this works out for you.
Just think, the home visit is just another hurdle for you to get through, as you get closer to your dreams for DS.
Nevermind dinner, I'm sure you can survive on the adrenaline rush tonight lol!!!!

Teddingtonmum1 · 27/01/2014 22:18

Have no idea but I said whenever you want to come I'm available!!!!

LadyMuck · 27/01/2014 22:29

Glad it has been good news at last Teddingtonmum. Please don't beat yourself up regarding ds's cleverness though - the bursary applicants per place at Whitgift were about 10:1, so I suspect that your ds would have needed to be practically at scholarship level to be in contention. Alas Whitgift may have been too good at advertising their (admittedly very generous) bursary scheme to many local schools etc.

Hope that your home visit works out!

????????Teddingtonmum Well done to your Ds & forget about DH for now.
Aswww, one happy mum. Congrats once again.

Teddingtonmum1 · 27/01/2014 22:56

thanks for all the happy thoughts , I think its the way the whole process makes you feel insecure and doubting yourself and your child's ability its wretched.

pooziepuzzle · 28/01/2014 08:04

I think anyone who has to go through a home visit is worthy of a place!

Sigh123 · 28/01/2014 10:10

Congratulations Teddingtonmum!!!! Don't worry about daddy. My ex doesn't contribute a penny. We do what we do for our children and when they are older they will see black and white! Well I hope so!

Pls excuse my ignorance but what awe home visits for?? I have never heard of them before

basildonbond · 28/01/2014 13:51

Alleyn's interview today - dd came out bouncing so seemed to have gone well ... now just keeping everything crossed until 14th Feb ..

LadyMuck · 28/01/2014 14:14

Fab news basildon. Did you get interviewed too?

OP posts:
mary21 · 28/01/2014 15:33

Congratulation teddington junior. I know when my DS was in year 6 several families had home visits. It was just to check you didn't live in a mansion that you could sell to pay the fees or have walls covered in priceless art. Roller outside?!
Having met a friend at the exam probibly helped.

Teddingtonmum1 · 28/01/2014 16:38

There was a boy from his class sitting so I think it awoke his competitive nature but we are trying for a foundation place so hence the home visit but not sure how many people are in the running but also got another interview with the panel but will make it known reeds is our only choice and we will accept if offered. Does anyone know if we are likely to get an offer and this is a formality or is there another hurdle to climb???

MotherOfSuburbia · 28/01/2014 18:15

Well thank goodness it's all over. Going to forget about everything till 14th Feb now! Well done everyone's DCs for getting through the whole process and out the other side.

Did anyone else take the City of London Freeman's exam?

JustAnotherUserName · 28/01/2014 18:19

Not over for everyone yet. City of London Boys interview summons' are not til later this week!

MotherOfSuburbia · 28/01/2014 18:30

Gosh - they don't half spin it out, do they?

ladydepp · 28/01/2014 18:45

Alleyn's are still interviewing too but we are DONE. Hurrah. Whitgift are doing sport callbacks too, my DS not asked but no surprise there. He is more sport-loving than sport-able.

Best wishes to all still going through the process, the rest of us can sit back and wait for Valentine's day Wink.

ladydepp · 28/01/2014 18:47

Ladymuck - no interview for parents at Alleyn's. Nice biscuits.

Teddingtonmum1 · 28/01/2014 19:02

But still no thanks but no thanks letter from whitgift though !!!

pooziepuzzle · 28/01/2014 19:13

Attended W sports call back today. We are now done, just the wait.
