A few days early I know, but most of the entrance exams will be out of the way in a fortnight or so, and I'm sure there are a number of us who are in need of Brew or Biscuit or Wineas we watch our (still very little) boys forget everything that they may have learned over the last couple of years. And there are many veterans of the process who will hopefully be around to reassure us that we will all come through this unscathed.

Ah, just worked out how to add a more user friendly link

MrsSteptoe · 10/01/2014 11:43

For the chicken fanciers on this thread, Dulwich lists a poultry club among its diversions... and a poker school. Not sure which way DS would go, should he get in.

Good luck to everyone sitting the T exams, today and tomorrow. And all those have have sat other exams and have more to sit. My DS sat DC, T, & W a couple of years ago, he is happily settled in T. He thankfully passed all 3 and decided on T. I remember the stress all too well, well worth it in the end. Yes, I hear chickens are still a good part of T.

My Godson sat T & W 10+ last year, he chose W, so kinda went through it all with him again. He is very happy there as well. His parents found the waiting took a lot out of them, as W didn't send 'no thanks' letters and they were waiting quite a while. I believe also both T & W had issues around the interview time with the snowy weather, especially with sports scholarship assessments. So far weather seems reasonable this year. Godson said there are 61 boys in year 6 at W (one boy left for family reasons, relocation/ went to boarding school, I think), and another has just joined this term, but he was always going to join late, they knew from the start of the academic year. Supports what his mum told me when they went to see one of the admissions teachers ( long story, around scholarship offer), that more boys accepted places than anticipated.

Early days yet, but in terms of the "preferred" boys' independent school in Croydon. I really think it depends on who you speak to, and swings and roundabouts between the 2 schools, and there is no particular trend. Both schools are strong academically and in the same league and offer excellent co-curricular opportunities. In my experience also, with local prep schools, they tend to advise parents about the 'perceived' best school for that particular boy and not in terms of one school generally being preferred over the other.

Again, all the best to everyone. I have to do this all over again next year with DD

We're home. Answer to the most important question was sausage, chips and beans - only vegetarians were allowed pizza!

Maths was tricky, English straightforward, VR easier than expected. He noted that the VR was a company produced one, but didn't make a note of the company, other than it was a type that we hadn't done!

The waiting begins....

I wish I was the sort of person who lost weight when worrying...

I'd have lost about 2/3 stone already told the admissions lady at W I'm gonna get a stomach ulcer with all the worrying hence she said they are starting calling tomorrow BUT if we don't get a call not to panic as they have a lot of appointments to book in.

Also spoke to Gordons in Woking today who have advised that it is unlikely we would get an offer as they have had a rise in military and sibling applications and they doubt if non military will get a look in . It was always a long shot but hey ho fingers tightly crossed

We're back as well, and it's a good thing that we wouldn't have to take DS in the car were he to get a place at Trinity as it's taken us nearly two hours to get back. Found the maths quite hard but had a shot at all questions except one; didn't quite finish the English despite the extra time, but he said he tried to just put relevant quotes against the last question that he did manage, so at least he's learned a bit of technique; and he's thrilled with himself that he managed to get all the anagrams, which he usually can't do for ihts.
And yes, delighted with the sausage, chips and beans.

LadyMuck · 10/01/2014 16:04

Two hours - help!

So is that your ds done now Teddington?

Think that Masters Steptoe and Muck have 2 more to go.

Just has the sports details through for older son on Saturday and realise I have to drop off both sons at the same time and place, which I suspect means that the sports department and the admissions department aren't speaking to each other... Sigh.

Did you all have delays with the trains?
DS unfortunately managed to write an imaginative story (all fiction) about something he was not proud about- but his story about being bullied ended with him kicking a teacher.
I hope they realise it is fiction- would rather he lost the marks for not answering the question, but that they don't think this is real!
They said they had 500 boys, and would interview approximately half of them.

MrsSteptoe · 10/01/2014 16:21

Heaven alone knows what Steptoe Jr wrote about. I daren't ask any more.

Teddingtonmum1 · 10/01/2014 16:26

DS has got reeds on Sunday then we are DONE and the wringing hands and sleepless nights begin . :(

Ditto Mrs S. The one thing I'm definitely not asking is what he wrote about!

I asked if there was anything that he thought he wanted to look over before tomorrow, but predictably he would rather watch tv whilst wearing his onesie (which thankfully he decided he didn't want to go to Trinity in today!).

This was T, not W
Yep, i didn't want to know what he wrote- he comes out and gives me a rating on the exam, the food, the teachers, etc etc
his normal function is to talk non stop
anyway, have a good weekend all.
i did this last year with DD and did not find it a bother at all- this year with DS it seems far more stressful.
going to have a great weekend with our new puppy

pooziepuzzle · 10/01/2014 17:04

Def best not to ask them too many questions, just asking for more worry.......

SoupDragon · 10/01/2014 17:06

According to the HMs newsletter, nearly 800 have sat the exams for T across all 3 age groups. Highest number ever (again), as expected.

ladydepp · 10/01/2014 17:09

Anyone else waiting to hear from Dulwich? Someone in playground said they start interviews on Monday.....

MrsSteptoe · 10/01/2014 17:14

They do, ladydepp. Sadly, we have not heard anything today, but I believe they also make calls on Saturdays and interviews continue till Tuesday week.

JustAnotherUserName · 10/01/2014 17:26

Do Dulwich call? I had it down that they communicate by post and was waiting for postie today with bated breath. Nothing yet. Perhap post or call tomorrow then.

ancientbuchanan · 10/01/2014 17:31

FYI, quite a few dc do both chickens and poker. The chickens are ace. Poker also useful.

ladydepp · 10/01/2014 19:24

If we get an interview I am going to make sure DS answers the question "why do you want to come to DC?" With "chickens and poker!!".

MrsSteptoe · 10/01/2014 21:52

I imagine some calls for DC might not come till during the week... Maybe someone will have experience of their practices ...

ancientbuchanan · 10/01/2014 22:16

Chickens, poker, rugger and ( maths) would be a sure fire winner. Insert fave subject if not keen on maths.
