The Trinity-Whitgift-South London school 10+/11+ thread of 2014

A few days early I know, but most of the entrance exams will be out of the way in a fortnight or so, and I'm sure there are a number of us who are in need of Brew or Biscuit or Wineas we watch our (still very little) boys forget everything that they may have learned over the last couple of years. And there are many veterans of the process who will hopefully be around to reassure us that we will all come through this unscathed.

Ditto cricket for rugger. Or an unusual sport. Or obsessed about football as Ds did. ( he did that at trinity too.)

LadyMuck · 10/01/2014 22:58

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow.

It may be worth remembering that some of these schools still have their reserve exam dates next week, so it may be fairer to avoid too much detail on questions. I'm fairly sure that I would be directing ds towards certain vocabulary if we were sitting the W reserve date (even though I would like to think that I'm above that really).

Oh dear Ladymuck, good point. Ooops!

LadyMuck · 11/01/2014 08:08

We're doing last minute geometry....

Last minute geometry - Such fun!

Good luck to everyone :

ladydepp · 11/01/2014 09:20

Good point about reserve exams, I did wonder if the exams were exactly the same, I guess they would have to be?

I know there is a clash today (for girls) between JAGS and Emanuel.

DS sitting Emanuel as we speak, at least the sun is shining!!

LadyMuck · 11/01/2014 09:54

I was contacted (not through here) by someone who had seen the Whitgift details, so it is fair to assume that there are a lot of lurkers. Some of the reserve dates are a while away too, which makes it even odder that a school would repeat an English comprehension.

Right, off to watch my older son (or as he now describes himself "the neglected one") play hockey.

Good luck to Master Muck minor today . Did it look like many this am ? At least you have a nice day for watching , says she still in dressing gown snug in house as dd not playing today !

CheezePlease · 11/01/2014 10:10

Well DS went in happily enough today amid a sea of little bright eyed boys. Really hope all are doing their best, good luck!

pooziepuzzle · 11/01/2014 11:27

So Ladymuck can we remove posts? How?

ladydepp · 11/01/2014 11:47

Just received letter - DS invited for interview at Dulwich next week. First hurdle done....

(apologies if this stresses anyone out, just thought the info might be useful)

Not sure when to tell DS.....

Matlow · 11/01/2014 11:55

We got a "no thanks" from DC in post this morning. Hey ho on to the next one. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

pooziepuzzle · 11/01/2014 12:12

Just heard W have started phoning re interviews- not here yet though

SoupDragon · 11/01/2014 12:26

Poozie, just click the "report" link next to yourpost. MNHQ can remove the post.

ancientbuchanan · 11/01/2014 12:26

Sorry about Master Matlow, but we thought that although it would be gratifying to get the full set, actually Ds was better suited to some schools than others. He loathed one and was distinctly unconvinced about another and funnily enough he failed to convince them.

What at least two heads said to us was that basically the numbers of children applying broadly equalled the places available and it was a comforting thought.

Best wishes to all.

pooziepuzzle · 11/01/2014 12:28

Oooh- just had a call from W for interview- excited!

SoupDragon · 11/01/2014 12:30

How soon you're contacted means nothing, so don't panic if you don't hear for a while :)

SoupDragon · 11/01/2014 12:35

Well done Mstr Poozie :)

JustAnotherUserName · 11/01/2014 12:51

And another interview here for W - hurray
Waiting for postman re DC!

Teddingtonmum1 · 11/01/2014 13:02

Ok now checking the phone connection ..... grrrr

LadyMuck · 11/01/2014 13:06

Thanks LIZS - looked like a large number, but obviously the prep school children sit as well. As with most schools I think it is the highest number yet.

Yep reporting posts is the best way of removing. It may very well be over the top, but I'm aware that this isn't exactly a private thread!

Glad Dulwich finally seem to be communicating and that the waiting game is over. Even if it isn't good news, I personally find the uncertain period more stressful. I think it's been helpful to be able to look back at previous years threads to see that W and T do end up stringing out the process for weeks, so not hearing today is the norm not the exception! But good news for those who have heard. Do you have to take something with you?

Teddingtonmum1 · 11/01/2014 13:21

What I don't understand is why don't they just phone everyone yah or nay instead of leaving people hanging ?

MotherOfSuburbia · 11/01/2014 14:08

Hello all. New to the thread but just had the interview call from Whitgift too. Good luck to everyone's DSs!

JustAnotherUserName · 11/01/2014 14:10

Post has brought good news from DC
Hurray again

LadyMuck · 11/01/2014 14:24

Oooh, quite a flurry of news then. Welcome MoS, and hang on in Teddington - there are an awful lot of people to contact, and one person can only contact 6-8 people per hour I would guess. Frustratingly I would assume that they're prioritising those doing co-curricular scholarships as they need to make themselves available...
