A few days early I know, but most of the entrance exams will be out of the way in a fortnight or so, and I'm sure there are a number of us who are in need of Brew or Biscuit or Wineas we watch our (still very little) boys forget everything that they may have learned over the last couple of years. And there are many veterans of the process who will hopefully be around to reassure us that we will all come through this unscathed.

DS seems happy with what he did at W today, finished all the papers. When I asked about his story he said he had included everything I told him to, ha ha!! He said verbal really easy- hmmm!!

Teddingtonmum1 · 09/01/2014 19:04

Hmm All i got it was ok , and it was easier than Sutton grammar ( which we didn't pass ) so who knows bated breath til next week . Re interviews do they see the boys alone or with parents ? .

LadyMuck · 09/01/2014 19:08

Boys seen separately, parents get seen by a member senior staff incl chaplain. Usually a sales job apparently (the parents one that is), but who knows - perhaps these staff are eyeing up your handbag and whether you'll be good for the fees...

Uh oh I'd better leave the mulberry at home then IF we even get that far .....

JustAnotherUserName · 09/01/2014 19:58

Yes: "VR easier than tiffin" (and we failed that) is my feedback, but he only managed two out if the five anagrams at end of the English paper.

ladydepp · 09/01/2014 20:18

DS didn't enjoy his day at Whitgift today, said playtime was boring, it was "too long" and their prefect wasn't particularly nice.

He thought Maths was a little easier than Dulwich, English was ok, reasoning easy, and he wrote a "cracking story" Hmm.

He is knackered and in bed now.

Emanuel on Saturday, 2 down and 2 to to....

Not sure what the Trinity equivalent of a peacock feather is - do they still have chickens? Good luck to those of you I will run over in the car park later.

So now that we are about to officially start, can I check what people know about interviews?

Trinity: calls start tomorrow, interviews held Fri 17th to Wed 5th, "no thanks" letter go out next week.

Alleyns: calls start 21st , interviews held 25th to 1st, "no thanks" letters ?

And we should hear by letter from Dulwich today or tomorrow. Interviews next week.

Seeline · 10/01/2014 09:15

Not sure if T still have chickens LadyM. They have bees, but they're probably hibernating. try a smile - we're generally a friendly bunch up there Smile
Good luck to everyone today - thinking of you while my DS slowly drives me up the wall with another day off

SoupDragon · 10/01/2014 09:17

I think the Trinity chickens may have fallen victim to foxes. I'm not sure whether they were replaced or not! DSs looked at me strangely when I just asked them about Trinity chickens.

pooziepuzzle · 10/01/2014 09:35

Trinity start phoning tomorrow when exam is today? Impressive turn around! Good luck all today.

One of the schools who had their exam on Tuesday reused a previous English paper apparently.

I'm sure I heard/read somewhere that a good proportion of the papers are marked on the day. I can't remember whether I heard it or read it on here now. They've been doing this for years though - it's a well oiled machine now!

JustAnotherUserName · 10/01/2014 10:14

from reading last year's thread, you don't actually get a "no thanks" letter from Whitgift until the time the offers go out - and they interview right up to the end of that period. So you might be left on tender hooks not know whether interviewed or not for quite a while.

I think this is cruel - if other schools can send "no thanks" within a few days, why can't Whitgift?

MrsSteptoe · 10/01/2014 10:51

One of the earlier trains from Victoria to East Croydon broke down at Balham this morning, with DS's classmate aboard - they were hoping to get a bit of breakfast at Croydon East but ended up getting a cab from Balham. DH and DS were on the subsequent train which arrived ten minutes late, a fact that compelled DH to get a cab from the station to the school - unprecedented in our entire marriage.

I'm waiting for the pig flypast at any moment. (I think DS's classmate got there with five minutes to spare, but I'm wondering how many other stressed parents were on the same train)

pooziepuzzle · 10/01/2014 10:54

Certainly when my other DS didn't make Whitgift our 'no thanks' letter came only a couple of days before offers went out. I knew myself by then as we had applied for sports scholarship but were never called for one when they were on. There was talk of a later sports assessment which just left me hanging on for longer! Think they could let the definite 'no's' earlier

pooziepuzzle · 10/01/2014 10:55

Know earlier!

Teddingtonmum1 · 10/01/2014 11:08

Yup admissions at whitgift confirmed that they would start marking the mornings papers that afternoon

LadyMuck · 10/01/2014 11:37

Oh dear mrssteptoe - that doesn't sound like fun at all. I hope that they do everything to help him calm himself. Must make sure that I have plenty of cash on me in case our Alleyns trip goes awry.

LadyMuck · 10/01/2014 11:39

I'm not sure that Trinity have always managed to get it black and white. Whist the definite no letters come out quickly, I think borderline candidates may have to wait it out...

CheezePlease · 10/01/2014 11:41

Good luck all sitting Trinity today! DS is there tomorrow with the other 10+ candidates.
LM and SoupDragon the Trinity chickens were filmed alive and well in May - see towards the end of Trinity News for a rather eclectic item!
