A few days early I know, but most of the entrance exams will be out of the way in a fortnight or so, and I'm sure there are a number of us who are in need of Brew or Biscuit or Wineas we watch our (still very little) boys forget everything that they may have learned over the last couple of years. And there are many veterans of the process who will hopefully be around to reassure us that we will all come through this unscathed.

Well done mrs s , still nothing from W for us have u had ur W letter?

am totally exhusted waiting :(

MrsSteptoe · 20/01/2014 21:59

We didn't sit Whitgift, Teddingtonmum1... but they do seem to be the most brutal of all the schools in terms of keeping people hanging! Keeping fingers crossed for you...

Tan cords and a blue jumper from M&S. Doesn't look like my son, and kind of looks like a little old man. All he needs is a flat cap and a pair of Hunters.

Ice breaker - not sure either, Alice! Will pm you when an idea emerges!

Teddingtonmum1 · 20/01/2014 22:19

Ah ok mrs s we only sat W as we visited last minute so no time to look at trinity.

Sigh123 I got the wrath of admissions I actually called with a genuine query hoping they might put me out of my misery and give me a hint but was firmly told got another week to wait . Just wondering has any a thanks but no thanks from W yet ?

basildonbond · 21/01/2014 06:59

As I've said many times (but it's being ignored!) we had to wait 3 WEEKS after the W exam before getting called for interview (and then getting a scholarship offer) - we didn't hear until the end of January and we weren't the only ones

So not having heard by now does not necessarily = thanks but no thanks ...

Hang on in there (but try to think about something else for the sake of your sanity)

Seeline · 21/01/2014 08:16

Icebreakers can be anything. Just something that will encourage your DS to chat. So something to do with a hobby/interest he has - awards, achievements, a lego model, bit of kit used as part of hobby etc Could be a book he has read and enjoyed, a theatre programme, museum guide etc. A lot of the boys don't even end up talking about it so don't go to huge amounts of effort and spend the night before completing a scale model of the mountain he climbed on holiday

mummyinatizz · 21/01/2014 08:36

Its not being ignored basildonbond I keep reminding people. Must be hard when W seem to be rattling through interviews though.

Will we get a chance to fill out a customer survey/feedback form after the process, so we can offer all these brilliant ideas for improving the process? yeah right Wink

pooziepuzzle · 21/01/2014 08:45

basilbond, was your scholarship a co-curricular one? Just wondering if they perhaps deal with these later after all assessments?

pooziepuzzle · 21/01/2014 08:46

ie- call for interview later

LadyMuck · 21/01/2014 08:59

Anyone with b/g twins going through this?! That would be pretty mind blowing!

Hi, has anyone had an interview for Whitgift 10+ yet...ours is Thursday and am just wondering what to expect?

AliceLostinWonderland · 21/01/2014 09:50

Thanks MrsSteptoe and Seeline - 4 days to decide Hmm

MrsSteptoe · 21/01/2014 09:56

Beginning to wonder if St Benedict's are ever going to get in touch, actually. 12 calendar days since he sat the exam, and that was the reserve date so their greater numbers sat over a fortnight ago - they've only had to mark 20 or so papers from the reserve date, from what we could see on the day. Co-ed, so I'm sure they had a lot of applications, but nonetheless.

basildonbond · 21/01/2014 11:35

Both academic and co-curricular poozie

LadyMuck · 21/01/2014 12:26

Did you get a late co-curricular assessment then Basildon? I thought that if you didn't get called for a co curricular assessment this week then that was it?

basildonbond · 21/01/2014 12:47

Pm me for details

GetMeOut · 21/01/2014 12:48

LadyMuck,
I decided that there was no way I could go through this with DTsB/G, so instead prolonged the agony by doing DT B at 10+ ( who luckily got in) and then DT G at 11+ the next year.
This was over the last two years, so I am just vicariously sharing everyone's pain at the moment as have no more DCs
We haven't even reached waiting list hell yet(which I also went through ) so this really is still early days I'm afraid , as waiting lists don't settle out until after March 1st.
Hmm

MotherOfSuburbia · 21/01/2014 13:21

So many people on here seem to be going for co-curricular scholarships. Sounds like competition is daunting! I know the sports numbers are high. Does anyone know how many children usually apply for any of the other scholarships?

LadyMuck · 21/01/2014 13:33

I think that we're the only people I know who didn't try for art (though I accept that it is still a small proportion). Seems to be the new sport! Music numbers dropped once it was made very clear that the schools were now looking for those boys who were very keen and knew the whole repertoire rather than those whose parents had forced them to audition their grade pieces Grin. Presumably DT and drama are the ones with smaller numbers?

Alleyn's interview letter received today. DS will be v happy, although I will try to emphasise the 300ish interviews vs. much fewer places!

LadyMuck · 21/01/2014 13:37

GetMeOut, 3rd March and well beyond this year I suspect. I know of one family who intend to hold their (hopeful) grammar and Whitgift offers until the new parents evenings in June and then make their decision, based on peer group Hmm.

Fantastic news ladydepp. Now MrsSteptoe and I can stress about our postie's relative performance! No post here yet today.

OP posts:
MrsSteptoe · 21/01/2014 13:48

Woo hoo ladydepp! Good on your DS.

LadyMuck · 21/01/2014 13:52

I'm sad to report that I even quickly checked on my neighbours house to see whether she's had post and I hadn't. I think I'm going to need to go somewhere far away for the 14th Feb.

OP posts:
MrsSteptoe · 21/01/2014 13:55

If it helps any, we have had our post today and there isn't anything from Alleyn's - only an electricity bill - so it may be that the invitations to interview are not all being issued at once. (Of course, it may also be the case that Steptoe Junior didn't get an interview at Alleyn's.)

GetMeOut · 21/01/2014 13:57

LadyMuck,
So accept the W place ( and therefore be liable for first term fees ) and the ( hopeful) grammar place ?
But not basing the decision on anything other than the 'quality' of the parents ? Definitely a 'First world' dilemma - I'm actually lost for words...
