How to thank teachers

The 'teachers' thread has left me feeling really fed up.

My boys attend a fantastic (state) school, and the staff there are ALL absolutely BRILLIANT. I want to thank them and encourage them and make them realise they are appreciated by me. I try to do this - obviously we sent Christmas prezzies and cards with notes in ...

Clearly teachers get some satisfaction from seeing the progress the children make, but I hate to think that my boys' teachers might think that we regard them in the way some posters on here regard their teachers.

So ... on Thursday ds1 came home with a little leaflet about the forthcoming term's work (Year 2). And it was fantastic - brief, but extremely informative, and very well put together. Both dh and I commented how helpful it is. ... Also on the first day of term he had written a book review for her (unrequested), and she read it, and wrote 3 or 4 really inspiring sentences for him about it, and about books/reading in general - on the first day of term - I'm sure she had plenty of other things to do with her time ... I don't see ds1's teacher at all during the week unless I seek her out specially. Should I seek her out specially to thank her and comment, or is that too creepy? I could put a note in his reading book, but that seems even more formal and uncomfortable.

So you teachers out there - do you get thanked/encouraged enough/at all by parents. What do you think?

Sisterhood is strong! I'm not going to post! Hugs to you Donnie for being such a supportive, good egg!

I should of posted what happened on Friday, it was like something out of a sitcom. I'd had a frenzied morning because a mate picked up my keys in the photocopy room. Cue me becoming headless chicken for an hour. Then I taught a mind melting sixthform lesson. then I had to shout at Y8, and then I was late for an exam invigilation because I got locked in the department at breaktime! It was sureal!

suedonim · 11/01/2004 15:19

Oops, was going to post on t'other thread but will post here instead...have a calming drink or two on me, ladies, even if it is only 3.15pm. Afternoon sherry, anyone??

suedonim · 11/01/2004 15:25

Ordinary or diet tonic, Hmb?

hmb · 11/01/2004 15:29

diet please. I'm try to be more sensible about what I eat and drink (note, not a diet, they always fail). And I'm 4 pound down on the start of the year....only another few years to go at this rate

suedonim · 11/01/2004 15:39

G&dietT coming up! Well done on losing 4lbs, that's a lot. I need to lose a few lbs, as well. Sadly, I still have Xmas food about the place, chocs etc.

Oh, what did you do? Did we cross paths??

hmb · 11/01/2004 16:08

Contach Tech if you was to keep things quiet.

fisil · 11/01/2004 16:18

Well resisted pops. I've just spent two hours preparing an A-level power point presentation - my first A-level maths lesson tomorrow. Scared, me?

Don't know any of those Oxford people, hmb. Oooh, I know what I said about anonymity, but now I'm getting excited that some of you might have been at the same college as me (although not necessarily at the same time), and I still feel very affectionate about my college!

hmb · 11/01/2004 16:24

I've sent you my details to tech. To put you out of your misery, and still be a little obtuse, Hogwarts?

Hulababy · 11/01/2004 17:22

Hi!

I have done my lines:
I WILL NOT POST
I WILL NOT POST
I WILL NOT POST

And it is no longer in Active anymore

tigermoth · 11/01/2004 17:34

aha, I see what you are all up to.

I will not post on that thread again today, promise. But feel I have to strike a pessimistic note. When all those mumsnet readers are back at work on Monday morning, you'll be lucky if they don't add something before they read this.

hmb · 11/01/2004 17:40

It will be back, I can feel it in my water! More of the same, and no answered questions, but there you go!

hmb · 11/01/2004 17:41

Fisil, power point? Does that mean that you have an interactive white board in your room? If so, lucky thing. I'd love and and the school has none!

Roscoe · 11/01/2004 17:45

I don't blame you all for hiding out on this thread. I'm not a teacher myself but it seems as though just lately MN has become a bit of a war-zone for teachers. Is it something in the water or what??

hmb · 11/01/2004 17:48

Teachers and mothers. If one isn't to blame, it is the other! And as I'm both I'm a bit twitchy at the moment!

I've opened a bottle of wine, anyone want a glass?

Hulababy · 11/01/2004 17:49

hmb - all our computer rooms and maths rooms now have interactive whiteboards, from this September. I love mine. I got a laptop at the same time too so I can plan loads of my lessons on that at home - lots of PP presentations - and the kids love the little animated images in the corner I can't remember what it was through but we had lots of funding over the summer. Maybe that's what happens if you fail an OFSTED!

suedonim · 11/01/2004 18:36

Okay, now educate me. What's an interactve whiteboard? Sounds fun!

fisil · 11/01/2004 18:48

I got mine on Monday. It's my compensation for running a department with two unreplaced teachers (we're doing very well, we just send all their classes off on holidays! lol). I am teaching on it at 8:30 tomorrow morning, and haven't yet even looked to see if I can work out how to get it working. Any advice hula?

Sue, an interactive whiteboard can simply be just a projection of your computer desktop (which is how I will use mine tomorrow) but you can also use a magic pen (like a mouse, I guess) to "write" on it, hence the interactive bit. It is a fairly cool piece of kit - can't wait to use mine, just need the time ...

As I left on Friday I was told that money had come in to equip my entire department with them - that's ten boards. Hurrah. Can't wait to tell them all tomorrow.
