Who is waiting for Primary School admission confirmation letters ?

I am. Nerve wracking stuff. The letters go out at the end of this month, according to the bloke I spoke to in admissions at my LEA.

Our choice of school is by no means guaranteed. We originally applied in late Jan (the closing date for applications was early Feb) for a school nearby (but not in catchment). Then we sold our house stc and had an offer accepted on another house in a different area (still in the same city though). Phoned the LEA and was told that I could ammend my application to the catchment school of the new house, which is a fab school, before exchange of contracts, but I still wouldn't be guaranteed a place. A) because it's over-subscribed anyway B) because my application would be a 'late application' and therefore would not be a priority and C) because we haven't actually got anything legally binding us to the address (although I included the memorandum of sale in with my change of application letter).

God knows what'll happen, ho-hum.

Yes I'm waiting too. Think it's end of April we get notification. Our 1st choice school is over subscribed too....

CP · 22/03/2006 09:28

We were really lucky and got accepted at our first choice school. Our applications had to be in by the end of September and we heard about 2 weeks ago, I am so relieved as it is not our local catchment school (appalling reputation) but the nearest CofE one. (yes we do go and yes the vicar does know us)

DS1's 'case' has been taken up by the Dep head who does seem to be acting on it, the bully is leaving anyhow and Dh also complained informally about his calss teacher so things seem to be better- he doesn't mind going to school now anyway.

Fingers crossed and thanks for asking!

i used to live in a crap area and needless to say the school was crap we moved just before my dd started nursery now she goes to a really good one we was just really lucky we moved in time

GDG · 31/03/2006 19:26

cat64 - it's madness isn't it, totally ridiculous. I'm going to go bananas if I can't get ds2 in - we are in zone so it would probably be a blip but then I'd probably have ds1 and ds3 in and not ds2 for example!!

Anyway - got nursery allocation letter and ds2 has a place so there's the first step anyway! Lots of people have been disappointed - it seems to be a high birth rate year....so I'll be worrying next year when it comes to reception admission for him.

GDG · 01/04/2006 12:26

Our LEA sent letters out yesterday for reception so people are hearing today. Anyone else?

Ellbell · 02/04/2006 10:45

I'm still waiting for official letter for dd2, although I am not too worried as it's our catchment school and she has a sibling there. It's wierd though, because she's starting in Reception (she has been in the nursery there for a year) after Easter (they do two terms in Reception part time before they go part-time) even though we haven't had an official letter yet. So in theory (though I don't expect it to happen) she could be forced to change school halfway through Reception... Very odd.

anniebear · 02/04/2006 20:54

wow, doesn't time fly!

I remember waiting for ours , and they started Reception in Septemeber gone

It goes sooooooooooo fast!

Hulababy · 02/04/2006 20:55

We recieved ours yesterday morning. As we have since made alternatice plans and no longer need this place we have just written a letter back decling our place - opening it up for someone else.

kid · 02/04/2006 20:57

Still waiting here. I'm very confident DS will get a place, but I'm waiting to see how many of his friends are moving up with him.

dinny · 02/04/2006 21:06

we`heard six weeks ago...and got our place - PHEW. all the best for those still waiting

Panyanpickle77 · 05/04/2006 22:41

I've now been informed my DD is number 6 on the waiting list for her preffered school (am still appealing though). LEA said this was good, and gave her a reasonable chance at getting in.Does anyone know what the probability of 6 kids not accepting their places at an oversubscribed school is? Any advice is greatfully received

hulababy · 05/04/2006 22:45

Nout sure Mrsaek but if it makes you feel any better we have declined our place at a very good school. I suppose some of the children may have other alternatives such as private school offers, and house moves are inevitable at times.

Gem13 · 05/04/2006 23:05

We hear the second week of May!

Rumour has it our first choice is oversubscribed.

jenthehen · 06/04/2006 00:38

I'm still waiting but I have to say that I think it is wrong if siblings are put before catchment. We live in a small village and if DS doesn't get a place at the school 400yds away I'd be furious. We live in an area where there are very few bad schools, only some that have a higher social standing than others, the schools to be seen to be at and some people are travelling as much as ten miles to get their kids in.

Northerner · 21/04/2006 08:55

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 21/04/2006 17:39

We didnt get our first choice for DS but he did get into the local Catholic School (we arnt catholic though) It was our second choice school and has good results so we are happy with it (and also they wear little cute uniforms)

Kelly1978 · 21/04/2006 17:39

Socci · 21/04/2006 17:55
