We have registered our 10 year old daughter to write the secondary school entrance exams in January 2013. Can anyone please recommend any private tutors who are specialised in this particular entrance exam? Thanks.

Just to add that I think it’s easier to get into Stockport and Cheadle than it is at Withington. If your DD has an interview at Withington then she must have passed the exam which I guess must follow that she passed the Cheadle one well.

My niece sat for 11+ at withington and St Bedes from State primary with absolutely zero tuition, she passed both exams and interviews and got on the waiting list for withington and got into St Bedes, but she’s at state grammar now, she preferred it.

High schools with prep departments always prioritize their prep kids, they say they don’t but they’re taught to test.

Heard Stockport is easiest of the south Manchester schools to get into, Manchester High for Girls used to have that reputation but it’s bit more academic now

‘A bit’ more academic? 91% grades A*-B at A level! And beat Withington in GCSEs last year.

@vinoandbrie alright no need to be defensive I was just saying what the general vibe is with school reputations. Been through the South Manchester exams and grammars and the whole system myself as have my siblings and nieces and nephews and I’ve had friends at Man High, Stockport, Bedes, Alderley Edge, Withington etc. it’s just school gate chat. The girls school every one aims for has always been Withington and I can’t see that changing soon! Doesn’t mean I think it’s Perfect or anything. I have a friend who got 2 C and a D at A level there and she was NOT looked kindly on so I do think it can be overly pushy but people love it.

My daughter was offered places at all these school girls we opted for the high achieving state school. The girls she knows at all the schools seem happy though.
Re Man High, our neighbour’s daughter passed for both Man high and withington and chose man high. I heard their results were better last year. So bright girls have their pick. We were lucky as we lived in Trafford when DD took the tests so our state school is almost as high achieving. We are very lucky with schools round here both state and private are high ranking nationally.
