The black/white/red combination is just so boring though! At least ours were interesting, in a kind of hideous sense!

Yes, it is Haywood High School, glad they have changed them.

Our years 1-5 one was ok blue blouse, blue a line skirt with a purse bely, Blue jumper with two light blue stripes along the V neck line. The sixth form one was horrible though grey jumper and skirt with Lilac shirt and don't get me started on the horrible gym knickers they made us wear for atheletics!

I remember a school near mine where the girls wore a ridiculous neck-tie thing, a bit like the ones some female police officers (inc the Met) wear. I never could figure them out, still can't!

robin3 - I have seen that uniform too. Cute on tinies if you're in to that kind of thing, but what about the huge 12yo boys wearing the same!!

And compulsory dress making?? omg!

Cookey · 13/03/2006 15:47

Compulsory uniform-making for anything was hideous. Our first term activity was to sew our PE bags and gym skirts. Until you mastered them, your kit was all over the place, and you had to play hockey in your gym knickers! Blush

My (state) school in NZ had old fashioned grey box pleated gym slips in winter and then green tunic dresses in the summer. Long socks and brown lace ups in inter, open sandals in summer.

If I recall correctly (think I had tried to blank it from my memory) we also a gym outfit that consisted of a green and white striped top and matching, puffed and elasticated pants (no lycra in thos edays).

Mum and Dad shelled out for the uniforms (summer and winter) - and then we decided that it wasn't working out in NZ and came back to Socltand!

I remember seeign a very odd series of pictures from New Zealand in a book, several years ago. They were of a class on a cross country run, mud splattered up theirlegs, but most of them were IN BARE FEET!

prettybird · 13/03/2006 17:42

Can't remember that far back Blush - this was 30 years ago - can remember doing cross countries, but have no recollection of what we had on our feet. I'm sure we were wearing something, as ZOla Budd came along a few years later, and we thought she was unusual for running in bare feet, and I am sure we would have made some comment like "but we did when we were in NZ).

Does seem pretty crazy, even our school wouldn't have done that. Though they did make up run across fields in white plimsolls with no socks! What the obsession with no socks was I have no idea, bu thtey were very insistant!
