How many of us have DS or DD going into year 6 and so having secondary transfer this year?

How do you feel about it?

DS goes back to school next Monday into class 6.

He has been at same school since Jan 1999, so sort of 7 years this year.

There is one class per year and they are a very close class, have got 26 children.

How do you feel about them entering into their last year at Junior school?

I feel sad that he is going to be leaving.

Is there anybody else who is going through this especially for the first time?

DS doesn't have any younger siblings so when he leaves primary school that will be the end for the family as well. IYSWIM.

Added to this is the secondary transfer issues.

I am sure when it comes to next summer he will be ready to leave as will probably grown up alot by then.

I was just wondering if others were thinking the same as me or whether it is just me being a silly neurotic mother again

Same as us then.

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 22:42

Is that reading blue coats?

Milliways · 15/10/2005 22:51

No, Reading School. Bluecoats is private, Reading is a state school (with 12 boarders per year - one of very few state boarding places).

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 22:54

oke doke

looks deffo brill though

Milliways · 15/10/2005 22:56

DS thinks it's nearest he will get to Hogwarts!

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 22:58

when is the exam?

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 22:59

DS is on 26th Nov for grammar school

Milliways · 15/10/2005 23:06

17th Nov, 8:45am - 1:30 pm

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 23:08

are his friends going for it too???

Milliways · 15/10/2005 23:12

2 boys from his school are, but none of his best friends. Most of them live in Reading borough where all other schools are awful. They all want to go to the West Berks schools, all very good (the boundary wiggles around here like crazy paving). As Reading School is sooo hard to get in to if you have not been privately educated / tutored, they see it as a wasted choice.

The schools own entry from says in large print to be aware of implications of naming them as a choice, and that not all boys suitable for a place can be offered a place (goes to 100 highest marks in the exam).

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 23:23

do you thinkn he will get in ???

Milliways · 15/10/2005 23:26

I really don't know. Teacher friend says they really need 84%+ on all papers. He can do that on verbal & Maths. Non verbal hot&miss, English maybe.

He IS bright, but not an outstanding genius.

He knows the alternative is an excellant school where DD thrives, but he really wants to get in.

Milliways · 15/10/2005 23:27

Is your DS hoping to transfer with his friends, or are they all trying for different places?

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 23:28

It is sooooooooo stressful isn't it

Milliways · 15/10/2005 23:32

If he didn't want to try for a grammar place, I would have had no stress! In catchment + sibling at oversubscribed very succesful local comp. Ah well!

Goodnight - turning in now

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 23:34

If he goes to DH private boys school he will be alone

If he goes to grammar then others will be there too

Our top choice is DH school DS is happy to go there alone as he knows his way around and teachers etc.

I have been dreaming of having sons and them going to DH school since we were married 14 years ago

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 23:34

goodnight

RTKangaMummy · 12/11/2005 22:41
