How many of us have DS or DD going into year 6 and so having secondary transfer this year?

How do you feel about it?

DS goes back to school next Monday into class 6.

He has been at same school since Jan 1999, so sort of 7 years this year.

There is one class per year and they are a very close class, have got 26 children.

How do you feel about them entering into their last year at Junior school?

I feel sad that he is going to be leaving.

Is there anybody else who is going through this especially for the first time?

DS doesn't have any younger siblings so when he leaves primary school that will be the end for the family as well. IYSWIM.

Added to this is the secondary transfer issues.

I am sure when it comes to next summer he will be ready to leave as will probably grown up alot by then.

I was just wondering if others were thinking the same as me or whether it is just me being a silly neurotic mother again

Celia2, I don't know whether the Lion King is a bought in script or adapted by a teacher, but I suspect the former. It's going to be particularly interesting for the giraffes - they have only a few weeks to learn stilt-walking.

Our school uniform shop provides refreshments - I think I'll be needing some!

RTKangaMummy · 19/06/2006 12:29

HG That sounds amazing Smile

I don't know what DS class are doing for their show yet.

Have just rung the uniform shop in nearby town and they say just come between 9.00 and 5.30 but to come sooner rather than later

So we may go at end of the week as I want to have a good choice of trousers for DS -- hopefully ones with adjustable waist

He was given a tie in house colours when we went to meet the Head of Lower school a few weeks ago.

The school don't sell the uniform - there is a specialized shop

RTKM, specialist shop rather than the school for us as well - I realise my post wasn't entirely clear on that point.

RTKangaMummy · 19/06/2006 13:20

ok I see Smile

will hopefully make it less stressful for you Smile

My dd has just been on a residential trip with school too and she had a great time although spent most of this weekend napping cos so tired.
Dd gets to spend whole day (well 9.30am-3pm) at her new school in 2 weeks time and she is still only 10 (she's not 11 until mid August :( )
Our local uniform shop gets so busy and hot, but luckily my friend works there so she has told me to let her know when I want to get dd's uniform and she will arrange to open up half and hour earlier to get us partly sorted before it gets busy (she also gives us discount which is a good job really with the amount of stuff she needs).

RTKangaMummy · 28/06/2006 19:56

You are lucky getting a private uniform shop

Yesterday DS had someone elses sock on after their swimming lesson and anyway after much confusion we found DS one this morning in the changing rooms

The teacher said that boys and socks are a nightmare and that one boy had got dressed with only one sock on !!!!!!!!!!

So goodness knows what it will be like in september

DH says some of the boys have their initials embrodered onto the rugby shirts and shorts so I think I will do that in his house colours.

DS has been given a love poem by one of the girls in his class it is soooooooooooo sweet.

On saturday DS went to senior school for introductory morning and had a deffo brill time and was chatting and making friends with the boys who will be in his form. It was very sucessful

Only 17 days left

Well it's full visit day tomorrow, DD and friends (and parents!)have been busy eciding who's meeting who, where and when. Then we have a parents meeting in the evening when we will pick up her PE kit and order her art pack, she's looking forward to all this- not sure if I m tho'

11 days left at primary school (but a very busy time with lots of visits, trips, leavers disco, assembly, sports day......etc)

Hallgerda · 06/07/2006 09:26

DS1 is off to his induction afternoon today (there was an induction evening for parents and pupils on Monday to which DH took him) and he will be catching the train back all by himself -he knows what he's doing and I need to collect DS2 and DS3 from school at 3.30 and can't be in two places at once. We spent quite a time yesterday evening finding him a safe way to transport his ticket and some emergency money in case he loses the thing.

RTKM, I can relate to your sock difficulties - my three have all bought the Sports Relief red socks and worn them before the event, so I've washed them and I haven't a clue which is whose!

RTKangaMummy · 12/07/2006 12:31

How are we all getting on with the end of Primary school

We had last sports day yeasterday

We have last swimming gala on Friday

On Thursday {tomorrow} loads of his class are doing secondary school visits so there will only be a few of them left in the school, it is swimming in the afternoon so DS will have the whole hour in the pool.

At the BBQ next week they are taking their swimming things as it will be like a swimming party next to the pool

At the disco next friday we sending in a photo of DS when he first started in the nusery 8 years ago and they are doing a display of them

How is everyone else?

One of my friends has all the uniform all with the labels sewn in already

We are going to get it all on Thursday probably as we are in Aussie/SP as soon as they break up. And it will be too late at end of August.

DS has got a girlfriend {sort of}

Well, one that is chasing him

We are going to see Pirates 2 at weekend with her and 2 other girls, who couldn't come to his birthday party

There are loads of little relationships in his class

Is it the same with your DS/DD???

Well my dd had her induction day last week and absolutely loved her new secondary school. She has made some new friends which is brilliant because she is going on her own - no one else from her primary got in, which was a shame. She wakes up each day and wants to go to her new school - she says that primary school is boring now and she can't wait to leave. It is me that feels unsure about my little girl is turning into a big girl! I know I will get used to it and it really is a fabulous school that she will be going to, but I can't help feeling a little bit sad.

RTKangaMummy · 13/07/2006 22:10

That sounds deffo brill that she liked it

We got DS uniform this afternoon

It was sooooo exciting for DS

He was sooooooooooo pleased with it

It is quite big and we can take it back to exchange if he has a growth spurt

When we got home he tried it on again

He looked soooooooooo handsome and grown up.

He is about leaving next week

It was his last swimming lesson today and I was there to help and they were swimming and then had game of water polo

We have got the swimming gala tomorrow

My DS1 enjoyed his induction day too. Unfortunately I messed up the train journey there by catching the wrong train and arriving five minutes late after a bit of an adventure, but he coped very well with the return journey.

He did really well in the Year 6 performance yesterday - I was very proud of him.

Only four and a half days left, including sports day, garden party day, prom and leavers' assembly - my head is spinning!

figroll · 14/07/2006 16:53

We had the play this week too - it really was lovely. Next week we have a barbecue, talent show (Aargh - definitely one to be missed) and the leavers' assembly. They are also having a party on one of the days too, which they have raised money for. Very exciting, but I can't wait to go on holiday now.

RTKangaMummy · 19/07/2006 10:46

We have the play tonight

It is also a prizegiving ceremony

I am finding it very hard this week though, it is very weird to think he only has 3 more days at primary school

Sad
frogs · 21/07/2006 18:00

Dd1 has finished, and remained dry-eyed throughout the Leavers' Mass and the final assembly even though most of her class were sobbing. I heard off the grapevine that several teachers had £10 bets riding on dd1 not crying, so they've all cashed in... Characteristically, even though all the girls in her class were given hairbraiding kits as leaving presents by the PTA, dd1 somehow managed to come away with a seriously classy Premiership standard football instead, and got mobbed by jealous boys on her way out.

Dd1 is very happy and excited about September, even though all the other girls are going to a different school from her.

Hallgerda · 21/07/2006 21:06

DS1 finished at lunchtime. Yesterday he was very upset after school as someone had convinced him he was going to be the only one without a partner for the Prom that evening, and he'd just lost the school chess championship by a blunder. He decided he really should go to the Prom anyway, and he had a good time - it turned out there were very few "couples".

This morning there was shirt signing (DS1 needn't have worried about a lack of popularity with the girls - one of them wrote her phone number on his shirt!) and the final assembly - final not just for Year 6 but for the Head Teacher as well, which was a moving occasion (though neither DS1 nor myself actually cried).

After school today, we all had fun with water pistols at the local paddling pool. Nice to know DS1's not too old for that kind of thing...

RTKangaMummy · 21/07/2006 22:37

We have just come home from the party which was a great success

It was organized by parents not school

DS was very upset when he came out of school

His shirt was covered with signatures from other classes as well as year 6

DS rang the BELL for the end of school, he ran all round the school. {It is an old fashioned brass school bell}

DS is very upset though

When we come back from Australia he is going to go to the holiday swimming club - at the school pool - on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

It has been an emotional roller-coaster this week

Are sew-in name tapes uncool for current 11/12 yr olds? (as opposed to writing on the labels). DS1 wouldn't have even noticed but DS2 is a bit more image conscious!

HenniPenni · 29/07/2006 15:08

Don't know about that, I'm using a fabric marker as I don't faff with sew on labels!!

RTKangaMummy · 29/07/2006 15:36

Well DS will be having them sewn in cos I have bought loads of them

IIRC there are about 150 of them

OP posts:
mandylifeboats · 29/07/2006 19:05

I still have loads of them bought for Reception as I reuse them, so seems a shame not to use them! Actually, I don't mind sewing them in - p'raps I should get out more!
