How many of us have DS or DD going into year 6 and so having secondary transfer this year?

How do you feel about it?

DS goes back to school next Monday into class 6.

He has been at same school since Jan 1999, so sort of 7 years this year.

There is one class per year and they are a very close class, have got 26 children.

How do you feel about them entering into their last year at Junior school?

I feel sad that he is going to be leaving.

Is there anybody else who is going through this especially for the first time?

DS doesn't have any younger siblings so when he leaves primary school that will be the end for the family as well. IYSWIM.

Added to this is the secondary transfer issues.

I am sure when it comes to next summer he will be ready to leave as will probably grown up alot by then.

I was just wondering if others were thinking the same as me or whether it is just me being a silly neurotic mother again

I do feel for you all about the SATs hate them my ds is doing yr 9 at the moment. when he did the yr 6 ones he missed a day as his sister was rushed into hospital. god did the head make a fuss.

7up · 03/05/2006 22:25

my ds got his sats next week which he doesnt seem too concerned about at the moment!hes more worried about the test at the secondary school in a few weeks. hes really excited about going to secondary school and i think it will do him good to be the 'baby' of the school again as hes def got to big for his boots at primarySmile

NotAnOtter · 03/05/2006 22:33

i would love to be brave and skive dd on a sats day!

RTKangaMummy · 03/05/2006 22:44

DS mental maths ones are 2005 ones too

Why do they put so much pressure on them?

Well I know the answer really but just frustrated

Are any of your DS/DD doing cycling proficiency courses at school this term?

They are doing them the week after SATs at DS school but as he has Dyspraxia and Hypermobility in his joints esp knees

He can't really ride a bike well enough so he won't be doing it Sad

I think the rest of his class are though which is really hard on DS

DH went to explain to the Head teacher why he couldn't do it and she said there were only 24 places usually, so some children always have to miss out but there are only 25 in his class so therefore there are places for everyone else to do it

I just hope that some of the other children choose not to do it -- there is a fee of £30

Hi, DD says she's sick to the back teeth of sats and can't wait until they finish them.

Her teacher has arranged a topic following sats which ties in with their residential trip next month, which she is looking forward to doing.

She's not doing the cycling profiency course but has just started to do DARE (Drug Abuse Resistnce Education) which she is really enjoying. Anybody elses DCs doing DARE?

RTKangaMummy · 04/05/2006 16:21

RTKangaMummy ifelt sad reading your post. surely they could do something to include him even if it isn't bike riding. I helped when ds did his. could he not " help"

7up · 04/05/2006 17:03

kanga, shame about the cycling proficiency for your ds, cant believe theyre charging £30!my ds did it last year, didnt cost a thing. i think they should do it in 3/4 anyway. year 5/6is too late.

my ds going to Swattenden activity centre at the end of june, mon-fri £165

RTKangaMummy · 04/05/2006 17:13

We could ask if he could help out with cycling, part of it is on the road so obviously not on that part

They do it in 2 groups and so the Head said that the class wouldn't notice if he wasn't doing it stupid woman she is so insensitive sometimes AngrySad

He has his medical and our interview with Head of Lower school {at senior school} on the Tuesday afternoon -- so he won't be left out then Smile

It seems to last all week though

I am really hoping that some of the children have not signed up for it
