How many of us have DS or DD going into year 6 and so having secondary transfer this year?

How do you feel about it?

DS goes back to school next Monday into class 6.

He has been at same school since Jan 1999, so sort of 7 years this year.

There is one class per year and they are a very close class, have got 26 children.

How do you feel about them entering into their last year at Junior school?

I feel sad that he is going to be leaving.

Is there anybody else who is going through this especially for the first time?

DS doesn't have any younger siblings so when he leaves primary school that will be the end for the family as well. IYSWIM.

Added to this is the secondary transfer issues.

I am sure when it comes to next summer he will be ready to leave as will probably grown up alot by then.

I was just wondering if others were thinking the same as me or whether it is just me being a silly neurotic mother again

Hallgerda well done to your DS! I have been silently watching as I live just near you - in fact right by the local comp. Would love to know which schools you are talking about!!

Thanks RTKM, HenniPenni, frogs, janinlondon and all the other supportive people on this thread (which I lurked on for some time before posting). It's been good to have someone to share all this with - it's pretty much assumed at the school gate that everyone's applying to the local comp. Indeed, DS1's teacher told the class at the end of the day that it wasn't the end of the world if they hadn't got in there.

janinlondon, you must be a very close neighbour of mine! You've worked out which local comp DS1 applied to; the grammar schools are in LB Sutton and start with the same letter. (I'd rather not state the information too plainly on a public forum).

Great news, so thrilled for everybody!!!

mandylifeboats · 02/03/2006 20:06

great news, so thriled for everybody. DS2 got his place at independant 3 weeks ago, but today they all got their letters from LEA for places at local comp, and I feel kinda mean knowing we're breaking up a nice group sending him somewhere else. I know all the logic, our motivation hasn't changed, he's not complained, I just thought it might be him feeling like this today, not me!

RTKangaMummy · 02/03/2006 23:44

MLB I know what you mean

DS class are being split up to 5 schools in the town, well actually 6 if you count boys grammar and girls grammar separately, and one other boy to a different independant

I don't know how easy it is for them to see each other next year -- ie how old and new friends mix

In town or TESCO on saturday morning we are always bumping into someone from his class so that will prob continue Smile

No word here yet. Sad

My friend hasn't had a letter yet either. We think it's our postcode as other mums at school have had their letters.

1 girl in DD's class has gotten into our first choice school, so it bodes well... except that my heart is beating a little too fast and I need to know! I'm suddenly scared that my DD won't get in (and I've been so calm). I think it was finding out that her classmate had got in that did for me.

Any hoo..... As soon as I know, you'll know. My post doesn't come first thing though, so knowing my luck I'll be out at lunch with the girls, worrying my head over it and the envelope will be sat on the floor in the hall.

My DD is far calmer about it than me. lol
