How many of us have DS or DD going into year 6 and so having secondary transfer this year?

How do you feel about it?

DS goes back to school next Monday into class 6.

He has been at same school since Jan 1999, so sort of 7 years this year.

There is one class per year and they are a very close class, have got 26 children.

How do you feel about them entering into their last year at Junior school?

I feel sad that he is going to be leaving.

Is there anybody else who is going through this especially for the first time?

DS doesn't have any younger siblings so when he leaves primary school that will be the end for the family as well. IYSWIM.

Added to this is the secondary transfer issues.

I am sure when it comes to next summer he will be ready to leave as will probably grown up alot by then.

I was just wondering if others were thinking the same as me or whether it is just me being a silly neurotic mother again

.

Thanks Hallgerda, all the best to your yr6er too

Milliways · 11/02/2006 19:46

March 1st here too

4blue1pink · 11/02/2006 20:20

March 6th here....they do not tell you where you came just if you passed or not...

Its sooo stressful we find and such a long and daunting wait.

Where are all your schools?

Ours is Skipton North Yorkshire...

HenniPenni · 11/02/2006 21:06

March 1st here too (kcemum)

Milliways · 11/02/2006 21:39

NB - if you miss the post on expected day - your child will probably find out at school! When DD was in Yr6, we had post but not all children did and her teacher had a list on her desk of where all puils were going to!

RTKangaMummy · 27/02/2006 14:29

Good luck to everyone for wednesday and on the 6th for 4b1p

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ positive vibes Smile

Thankyou RTKM,

Think DD is handling the wait much better than me! Chatting the other day and she said:" Don't worry if I don't gat in at x school then I'm happy to go to y school" Me meanwhile have got thoughts of appeals and letters and going round and round my head just in case!!

Goodluck to everybody else waiting.

Hallgerda · 27/02/2006 15:59

Thanks RTKM!

We're not too worried as all possible outcomes have something in their favour (other than the nightmare scenario in which DS1 doesn't get into any of his choices including the local comp 2 minutes walk away, which I don't think is too likely.) All the same I'm sure we'll all feel more settled once we know.

Good luck to everyone else waiting for results - particularly those put in a bad position by schools with first choice criteria.

RTKangaMummy · 28/02/2006 17:32

You're welcome Smile

DS was told at school today that the website will probably crash at 4pm when everyone is trying to access the website to check

IMHO It is rather stupid time to do it

Much better to do it at midnight then people could access more staggered

Good luck to all those waiting for the post tomorrow. We went through this last year.Smile

frogs · 28/02/2006 17:36

What website, RTKM? Are the results online?

RTKangaMummy · 28/02/2006 17:43

If you applied online an email gets sent

then the results can be accessed with the unique code + password + user name

otherwise gets sent in post

Positive vibes to everyone waiting for results tomorrow and the coming days, the (hopefully happy) end is in sight!
My sister has given me a hilarious book called "May Contain Nuts" by John O 'Farrell a novel about the knots parents tie themselves up in with entrance exams, its a very tongue in cheek novel that is the perfect antidote to the stresses involved. Highly recommended!!!

MarsOnLife · 28/02/2006 18:51

This year is the first year that there aren't a lot of stressed Y6 parents walking around. It's a high sibling year so lots of them will be following in the footsteps of brothers and sisters. Some, like DD1, don't have that advantage and have to wait until Thursday (earliest) before finding out.

RTKangaMummy · 01/03/2006 12:45

Hope you all get the results you want

Milliways · 01/03/2006 16:01

Has anybody else got their results???????

OP posts:
Hallgerda · 01/03/2006 18:20

Congratulations to Milliways' DS! I'm afraid we're still waiting. My children's primary school clearly hasn't been told anything either; they've sent a letter asking us to let them know when the school offer comes through.

RTKangaMummy · 01/03/2006 18:21

Oh dear can't you check on the website of you county council?

How did you apply?

Did you do it with a form or online?

OP posts:
Hallgerda · 01/03/2006 21:19

RTKM, I'm in the London Borough of Lambeth. Need I say more? They're much better than they used to be, but still have some way to go. I'd love to have applied online. I submitted the form by showing up in person in the education department and sitting round for about half an hour in a queue to have my receipt stamped. I could have done it by post but I didn't like to risk it. Their website is unhelpful I'm afraid; I'll just have to keep waiting for the post.

MarsOnLife · 01/03/2006 21:36

RTKM, how do you check on the council website? I can't see anything that would help. I turn to you my oracle Grin

RTKangaMummy · 01/03/2006 23:46

on the Herts website

you could apply online and then they give you a code and password and user name

then they send an email today and also you can see the alocation online by putting in your details

very efficiant really Smile

Hope the postie brings good news in the morning
