How many of us have DS or DD going into year 6 and so having secondary transfer this year?

How do you feel about it?

DS goes back to school next Monday into class 6.

He has been at same school since Jan 1999, so sort of 7 years this year.

There is one class per year and they are a very close class, have got 26 children.

How do you feel about them entering into their last year at Junior school?

I feel sad that he is going to be leaving.

Is there anybody else who is going through this especially for the first time?

DS doesn't have any younger siblings so when he leaves primary school that will be the end for the family as well. IYSWIM.

Added to this is the secondary transfer issues.

I am sure when it comes to next summer he will be ready to leave as will probably grown up alot by then.

I was just wondering if others were thinking the same as me or whether it is just me being a silly neurotic mother again

Dd is over the moon as it is a very oversubscibed school.

No thank goodness

Am sooooooooooooooooo pleased he didn't cos I really didn't want him to take a place away from his friends

If I could turn it down and say please could Paul have that place then that would have been ok but it wouldn't work like that

He wouldn't have gone there anyway

We all wanted him to get the indep school

Congratulations to Mars's DD! (If it's the school I think it is, I know several people who went there including one who's back there as a teacher - must be good!)

Thanks, Milliways!

Congratulations to Celia2's DS and FeelingOld's DD!

FeelingOld · 03/03/2006 18:08

Just found out that the school dd has a place at had 134 places available and there were 204 applications. Feeling really lucky she got in.

MarsOnLife · 03/03/2006 18:25

Hallgerda it's a CofE school in town.

DT2's godmother went there and highly recommended it. We also know several girls who have gone there from our primary school and they are loving it! Smile

SecondhandRose · 03/03/2006 18:44

We got the school DS wanted, he got a music scholarship but unfortunately not the funding required so applied late (stupidly) for state school. Got a phone call today and was told I won't hear about the state school until the last week of March.

On a better note DD got a 7+ academic scholarship for the juniors, but still not enough to cover the huge jump between infant and junior fees.

So that's my riveting news!!

frogs · 03/03/2006 19:30

Mars, Grin Grin Grin!

Congratulations to dd and to you!

SecondhandRose · 04/03/2006 23:45

I've just found out we won't here about DS's place until the 27th as he's a late one.

Bink · 05/03/2006 11:46

RTKangaMummy, nice of you to put me on the list, though we don't really count as ds is only six - he was trying out for a 7+ move. (He didn't get in, but we got very good feedback from the school and they're encouraging us to put him in for 8+ entry next year, so all is fine.)

All the best to those on this thread who are still waiting to hear.

MarsOnLife · 05/03/2006 13:32

will be thinking about your and your DS secondhandrose.

Thank you frogs! I'm so excited that I can't sleep. I can't wait to go uniform shopping. Grin

Jennypog · 05/03/2006 15:38

Just to quickly let you know that she got in! We are very pleased - it means that she actually got into every school that she sat the test for, including one scholarship.

She is going to the state grammar though.

RTKangaMummy · 07/03/2006 16:46

Any more results???????????????

Are your DD/DS having loads of SATs practise?

I wish they would teach them rather than test them

Where are they going for school trip?

DS is off to IOW in June, he went to North Wales last year Smile

I think it is ok for the ones who are struggling but the ones who are going to get a 5

What is the point? AngryAngry

I do not give a monkeys what he gets for his SATs, he is expected to get 5 in them but even if it was a 4 I would not want all this practise

OP posts:
Hallgerda · 07/03/2006 20:47

I'm now getting pretty exasperated by SATs revision - DS1 could put it less politely I'm afraid. I can see the point in schools doing the SATs as I've said earlier on this thread, but the amount of revision is just ridiculous. I also loathe the way the school is hyping the whole thing up when they should surely be encouraging a healthy attitude to examinations. Celia2, I am Envy of your son's school's sensible attitude. Still, my son's surviving - he and his best friend are working on a parody of a ReviseWise science video Grin.

SecondhandRose, I hope the state school application works out well.

JennyPog, congratulations to your DD!

Milliways · 07/03/2006 21:25

Kanga - My DS went to the IOW earlier this year - to Kingswood. He had a fab time - quad bikes, ropes, IT etc etc. Is that where Kangaboy is going?
