Nappies leaking constantly

Hi everyone

I'm using the Bambino Mio Solo nappies for my 6 month old baby and I'm at my wits end because they're constantly leaking. I barely get 2 hours of wear before all her clothes and soaked in wee. Im using them on the smallest and sometimes middle setting - but neither makes any difference. I've invested a small fortune in these nappies, anyone got any ideas? I don't really want to use the booster in the daytime as that would make the nappy even more impossibly huge...

I'm about to give up this whole eco friendly journey 😫 Anyone else got the same problem!?

Do you use vest extenders? Sometimes if the clothes are too tight around the nappies you will get leaks.

Verbena87 · 09/09/2022 19:19

my friend whose little one is in cloth uses fluffy ducks nappies because bambino mio are a bit shit and leak. They’re not all-in-one, you stuff them. They’re brilliant. Could you sell yours on and try a few different sorts to see what works best for you?

WalkingOnMarshmallow · 09/09/2022 19:55

@Cantchoosename you mean bodysuits? Because of the heatwave this summer we've not actually used any on her, but I'm sure we'll have to start using them soon as the weather cools down...

@Verbena87 oh gosh really?? I didn't know they were shit, all the reviews I've seen are brilliant. I won't get much for them now if I try to sell them so I'm stuck with them I guess. Unless Bambino Mio can give me a refund for a shit product! 🤪

I have some of these and they are the least reliable of my stash unless I boost them. I use a thin bamboo booster which helps, can get 3 hours. It doesn’t make them too much bulkier. It’s a little lamb double, I got them cheap second hand. Also, when you start weaning they wee less!

Yeah I didn’t know they were known as rubbish when I got them!

DuneFan · 09/09/2022 20:03

I love my bambino mios. Use a little lambs double bamboo booster stuffed into the pocket, they are very slim and not too pricey (about £10 for 10 when I bought a little while ago).

2-3 hourly is a good frequency to be changing reusables.

DuneFan · 09/09/2022 20:04

Also, they sell quite well secondhand, usually around £6 each in good condition.

RoseValleyRambles · 09/09/2022 20:18

Sounds like your little one is drinking enough to need a booster - then you should find they're ok. I love ours, but now he's drinking 150ml + they do need boosting.

WalkingOnMarshmallow · 09/09/2022 20:19

@DuneFan phew I'm glad someone loves them! I don't mind changing nappies every 2 hours but it's the fact that by then everything is already soaked. I'll try with the boosters tomorrow and see if I get less leakage. The bambino mio boosters look a bit bigger then the little lamb's but let's see how it goes. 🤞🏼

WalkingOnMarshmallow · 09/09/2022 20:20

@RoseValleyRambles good point! She drinks about 130ml now plus whatever she gets when breastfeeding. I'll try the boosters!

Isonthecase · 09/09/2022 20:21

It's a bit trial and error with every baby, they all fit differently! Do you have a local nappy library or shop to get some tips? I always found they had to be tighter than I expected unless they were the bamboozle ones which just last for hours no bother.

WalkingOnMarshmallow · 09/09/2022 20:23

@Isonthecase no I don't unfortunately but I'll do a bit more trialling with the boosters - hopefully that'll work 🤞🏼

I would add a booster

We used tots bots easyfit daytime and bamboozles at night. Both bomb proof and def recommend.
BUT around 6-8 months Ds must have been drinking the most before moving to eating more solids and we did start adding 2 boosters at night.
After around 8 months he must have reduced liquid consumption as we then didn’t need to add the double booster again.

So boost. And you might only need to do so a few months.

AssumethePerpendicular · 09/09/2022 20:27

The bambino mio boosters are all microfibre so you may still
get compression leaks in the high chair/car seat/carrier, bamboo is better for avoiding this. Good luck!

DuneFan · 09/09/2022 20:29

The bambino mio boosters are microfiber so not as absorbent or slim as the little lambs but more absorbency should definitely help so good luck!

Anon778833 · 09/09/2022 20:30

You need cotton or hemp. The problem with MioSolos is that they are microfibre nappies and really aren’t going to work for a baby older than 3 months without significant boosting.

I would look for cotton, bamboo and / or hemp nappies.

grizzlygrump · 09/09/2022 20:30

I’m sorry to say those were by far the worst we tried, I ended up replacing them all with Sandys + airflow wraps and have never had a leak since!

WalkingOnMarshmallow · 09/09/2022 20:55

@grizzlygrump oh gosh I wish I'd known 😫

Cantchoosename · 09/09/2022 20:57

The vest extenders I mean are these:

littlelamb.com/products/vest-extender

I guess they are only useful if you use bodysuits.

I have also used sandys and airflow wraps and found them to be really good like grizzlygrump says

WalkingOnMarshmallow · 09/09/2022 21:01

@Cantchoosename oh gosh will I need vest extenders too... They look useful though as reusable nappies are quite bulky! Could you send links to the nappies you mentioned? What are airflow wraps?

@WalkingOnMarshmallow have you looked at The Nappy Lady? They have a huge selection. All different fabrics. Motherease Unos are great and very slim.

WalkingOnMarshmallow · 09/09/2022 21:21

@MondaysChild7 I was literally just on that website when you replied. Will have a browse!

lochmaree · 09/09/2022 21:35

we didn't like the miosolos that much. sold them on though and then used cotton terries for a long time and then moved onto little lamb bamboo fitted with nature babies wraps.

and we wonder why more people don’t go EF …who honestly has the capacity and patience (and money) to keep it going when they’re so unreliable
