Has anyone used Hermes couriers? Are they Ok or dodgy?

I had to send something back tracked, so decided to use these people as they were cheap.
In hindsight I ought to have used parcelforce but anyway...

parcel picked up on Weds. Courier is our usual home shopping guy, so far so good.

The delivery is meant to take 3-5 days. I've checked the tracking, nothing on Weds, Thurs it says 'collected at 13.08 weds'

There is nothing else yet. I rang the company. I get Janice who has only been there a week but tries to log into the screen which shows them 'more detail'. It says 'collected' too.

I ask Janice whether there is anyone else I can speak to as I am not feeling reassured. (I have seen some awful reviews on the net by now)

She looks around,
'Can't see anyone, no...'

I tell Janice I will call back later. She is very nice. My parcel is probably in Outer Mongolia by now.

Help.

OMG - has anyone actually read the tweets on the twitter.com/HermesDelivery account?? Seriously that cannot be serious, the tweets beggar belief!

I have gone outside to find a soggy empty box on my doorstep. There was a FURBY inside it at some point but the tracking says it was delivered 2 days ago but TODAY I get an empty box.

DO NOT USE THESE JOKERS!!

raciroo · 02/11/2013 22:13

I buy and sell a lot on eBay; I use MyHermes for all my boxed parcels (ie anything bigger than packet by Royal Mails definition) as they are significantly cheaper. Not had anything go missing or had any problems, however, they do tend to consistently hit the 5 of the 3-5 day estimate, so not great for anything too speedy at the standard rate/service.

rockybalBOOOOa · 02/11/2013 22:24

Our local Hermes guy is brilliant at bringing me Boden parcels Have used for delivery too and they were v good.

ena19 · 20/11/2013 13:02

I bought something from Ebay and the seller used them. The item was left outside my house and a drop card saying left outside over gate. The parcel was lost. I discovered that ebay doesn't protect you at all as they put in the tracking number "delivery left in secure place" so I am not going to received the refund from ebay (nor paypal protection etc...) i have to wait from Hermes to refund the seller. Ridiculous. So don;t use them, really doggy company. Really disappointed with ebay as I have the drop card that sayd it was left outside the property....

ena19 · 20/11/2013 13:05

Don't use them. I bought from ebay and the seller used them. They left the parcel outside and the drop card saying that. The parcel was lost so now I am waiting for the seller tog et her refund. But even ebay was useless and they did not offer any protection for them the fact that HERMES wrote on the tracking number tha t was delivered it was enough not to give refund. Really disapponted ith Hermes and with ebay at the end.

DH was following a Hermes courier today and was appalled enough to ring me to make sure that we didn't use them for any Christmas stuff.

Apparently the courier was simply opening the car door and throwing parcels out in the vague direction of the houses.

Now, I'll admit it's sleeting out there, but still!

Delivery driver rang the door bell three times in a row. I thought there was an emergency. I got to the front door to find the Hermes Delivery Driver had sped off down the road. This was at approx. 10 am this morning. The delivery man had not even tried to deliver the parcel to my next door neighbour (who was in), as per additional instructions, or even leave a card stating that he had been. I consequently contacted HERMES Delivery Company who informed me that all the drivers live locally to their parcel drops and that he worked up until 18:00 hours that day. She stated that she would contact him to get him to call back. Surprise, surprise they stated they couldn't get though to him!!! Possibly he was watching the football!!!!!!!!!!, but I can only surmise.

finbarhoratio · 02/09/2014 18:14

DO NOT USE MYHERMES!!! They 'lost' a 2m long 10kg package. No one in customer services cares, they are rude and un cooperative. One employee even threatened me with a "if you want to see your parcel again" comment!! Still trying to talk to someone in charge...broken promises and incompetence!

maddinit · 09/12/2014 20:46

I am a Hermes courior and any1 thinking of using them.....don't do it I have had to chase my own parcels I am not recommending them to any1 I am currently looking for anew job I don't know how they can call themselves a company.

fairisledog · 10/12/2014 12:03

I was using myhermes until yesterday (almost 200 parcels sent successfully and quickly) BUT in the last month the whole service has gone to pot and as they don't seem to think their customers matter enough to respond to a message after 4 days.

I'll be taking my custom elsewhere when I start ebaying again after the Christmas break unless everything magically gets better - by that I mean my parcels which are currently in limbo turn up AND their online tracking system gets fixed AND the handheld scanner at the dropshop gets sorted.

I've even sung their praises on here.....NOT ANY MORE !

nauticant · 10/12/2014 20:48

This is the fundamental problem with Hermes. They provide a very cheap good enough service until it falls over. When that happens they offer no support and their customer services are configured to wear you down until you give up either with your problem solved at some point if they can be arsed or not solved at all.

I use them but like to be strongly aware of the disadvantages and I'm moving up in the value of items I sell and I'm hoping to leave Hermes behind.

nauticant · 10/12/2014 20:50

Oh, and in my experience Hermes collapses during the busiest times so are particularly unreliable at the height of Summer when couriers are on holiday or towards Christmas when the volume of packages increases.

pottypeppa77 · 10/12/2014 22:26

My parcel sent on Friday has been signed for today (so arrived within 5 days). They have been brilliant with everything I have sent so far however I noticed that Boden (who usually send all my parcels by Hermes) sent the last one by Royal Mail. I read they'd had a fire in their depot which was causing delays.

Parcl · 15/12/2014 13:24

Not sure if people are aware but some couriers, such as Yodel and Hermes use some car drivers to deliver items. This has its drawbacks and can result in a longer transit time. You get what you pay for with overnight deliveries, I have found, particularly when it comes to customer service and tracking.

Parcl · 15/12/2014 13:31

Yes - when you book a delivery, you need to read the carriers Terms and Conditions. Usually there is a list of prohibited items...but who does this?
It can be tempting to ignore the small print (at your peril!)
I think you'll find that there are very few carriers out there that will insure your laptop. generally you will get insurance cover of around £10 per kilo - so a laptop that weights around 4kg will be covered for around £40 - if they even cover you.

donkir · 15/12/2014 13:36

I've had nothing but trouble with Hermes. Look on their Facebook page all the reviews sum them up.

Glad it worked out for you op.

weegiemum · 15/12/2014 13:37

I'm waiting in for an Evans delivery via Hermes.

Today (very organised!!) I've had 2 Royal Mail parcels, a UPS, a Ukmail, an Amazon and a Tesco Groceries.

I'm not sure when this "out for delivery" parcel will arrive!

BeHoHoHove · 20/12/2014 14:41

I'm waiting for two Hermes deliveries. Worryingly they are marked as 'delivery confirmed by courier' but they certainly haven't been.

chemenger · 20/12/2014 14:49

My Hermes delivery is apparently in my "outbuilding" having been delivered yesterday when I was at home, according to the tracking info. I don't have any outbuildings. I contacted Topshop and now they have to contact Hermes to find out where they have put it. Last time this happened they swore blind I had signed for it, turned out it was two doors away with a neighbour who unfortunately had quite severe MH problems and just kept it for two months. I'm willing to bet it is in her greenhouse, she's in hospital and I am reluctant to go raking around her garden.

judy1234 · 22/12/2014 04:35

RE: HERMES - Be Warned and BE VERY CAREFUL - They are renowned for BREAKAGE and MISHANDLING of parcels. Don't be fooled by their cheaper postal charges or think that your parcel is insured. In their small print China & other fragile items are excluded from insurance- I wonder why !! I recommend paying the higher Royal Mail postal fees. I have just had a carefully packaged china ornament smashed to pieces, despite double boxing, bubble wrapping & heavily labelled "FRAGILE" stickers - Cheapest isn't always the best !!

Twinklebells · 22/12/2014 10:43

I have never had any problems with them at all - and I use them a lot. The one time I had to claim for damage it was quick and they paid out in full no questions asked.

And Judy - lots of carriers don't take china or fragile items - that is not unique to Hermes. RM don't either unless you use Special Delivery.

chemenger · 22/12/2014 16:09

Now it turns out that DH has a parcel missing too. Guess the courier? Luckily Topshop sent out a replacement for me with yodel - delivered in less than 24 hours, so it isn't as if our house is impossible to find.

moddjo · 31/01/2015 14:40

Well, it`s cheap for sender, but frustrating for reveiver - long to wait, not home on delivery- no leaflet. :( never happened like that with any other courier

alabastergirl · 31/01/2015 17:06

what does the tracking info say? It will tell you if it is out for delivery.

vinegarandbrownpaper · 31/01/2015 17:09

Well if hermes are anything to do with the 15 days I have waited for my next day EE brightbox, then they are crap.
