I just won an item on Ebay and the seller has sent me this email..

"hi i'm just wondering if your willing to pay £15 for this item because the price was abit lower than expected.could you please let us no ASP thanks. As you could see this is a very popular item nd we had alot of questions asked on it.thanks"

WHAT would you reply to this???!! I am amused and incredulous at her very cheek!!

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 14/07/2008 20:47

well, not that popular if they didn't all bid on it!

Cheek indeed. I assume you are going to pay the winniing bid price as is customary with an auction?

BettySpaghetti · 14/07/2008 20:47

I would be tempted to reply :

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

FAQ · 14/07/2008 20:48

I'd tell her (politely) to fuck off - if she didn't want it to sell that low she should have started it higher.

expatinscotland · 14/07/2008 20:49

for real?

omg, i'd have to stop laughing first.

i'd look in Ebay rules and quote the passage where it says the seller has to honour the winning bid and leave it at that.

Guadalupe · 14/07/2008 20:51

ask if they know what reserve means

FAQ · 14/07/2008 20:51

Giadalupe - I'm pretty sure you can't put a reserve less than £50 these days.......

savoycabbage · 14/07/2008 20:52

That is hilarious

They must be a bit thick. I would do nothing and say nothing. Pay with paypal so you are covered if they pull out.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/07/2008 20:55

Already paid with payPal. Have actually replied (while I was waiting for your replies; wasn't sure I'd get any!) with..

"With respect, this is not how Ebay works. The item sells for what the auction ends at; you can't actually ask your buyer to pay more because it didn't go for what you wanted it to sell for.

As a seller, if you don't want to sell an item below a certain price, you have to either set a reserve, or start the item at the minimum price you would be willing to let the item go at.

Regards

......."

OP posts:
ANTagony · 14/07/2008 20:55

If I want to get a minimum amount I set the auction at that amount, bother reserves and all of that. Tis not right what they've suggested. Thats the whole point of auctions.

If they bully you into pulling out a second chance offer would be less! Odd.

elmoandella · 14/07/2008 20:55

thats his tough cheedar. should have started his bid at £15 if thats all he's willing to accept.

definately pay by paypal in case he does a runner

Flibbertyjibbet · 14/07/2008 20:57

No, don't pay yet. Reply saying that you won the auction fair and square and that all the others asking questions obviously didn't like the answers as they did not appear to bid!
If she won't sell then you can leave neg feedback but she can't leave you anything but positive.
Can we please have a link, or tell us what it was (link to a pic of the same thing somewhere else if you want to keep your ebay private from us) and tell us how many bids and how much you got it for.

Pleeeeeaaaassssseeee

Flibbertyjibbet · 14/07/2008 20:58

Oh, xpost and you've paid.

You'll have to give us the link then as I am bursting with curiosity as to what it is that must be worth £15 or more...

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/07/2008 21:01

It's here A Fur Real Cat.

It's for DS2 (SN age 8) He ADORES these but he is so heavy handed they don't last long. DH and I watch them on Ebay all the time; this one was a bargain but is not the cheapest one we've seen.

OP posts:
Hecate · 14/07/2008 21:04

I notice it's her first sale too. I hope I'm wrong, but I odn't think you're going to get it!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/07/2008 21:05

I better! We've paid! (Well DH did.. before the email was sent. He always pays for everything immediately)

OP posts:
Flibbertyjibbet · 14/07/2008 21:07

Thats hideous!!

Its the sellers first sale so obviously they have no idea. I would just see if it sells but if you neg them then they won't be selling much more - one item sold and one neg would give them 0% positive feedback and send potential buyers running for the hills!
Would you ever pay £15 for one though?

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/07/2008 21:11

I know I know.. but DS adores them! The mechanical bits make dreadful creaking noises when they move as well as the other noises they're supposed to make!

He's had one called Snowball (which has sadly gone to the Mechanical Cat Cematory in the sky due to be accidentally dismembered by DS) and currently has a kitten called Bumfluff (!) (he names them.. and he's doesn't have that much speech!) which slurps, drinks from a bottle and "kneads" with it's paws!

You buy these crazy things when you have an SN child with fixations for them

OP posts:
Ambi · 14/07/2008 21:13

what a cheeky thing to do! She obviously doesn't understand ebay looking at the posting and nil feedback. I think your email was right, let us know if it does go smoothly.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 14/07/2008 21:16

She wanted you to pay more than double your winning bid.

PMSL she doesn't really understand ebay does she?

ooh do you wany a fur real chimp!!! no bottle or batteries but tis been sat on the end of ds's bed for a year and he didn;t want batteries in it as too scary and now says he wants to put it in the bin, would rather give away than bin it!

Bowddee · 14/07/2008 21:19

Remember to leave Negative Feedback!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/07/2008 21:21

DS breaks them in everywhich way.. but DS is a very hard task master for a toy! Poor Snowball (the Orignal dating back to last Christmas) reeked within a week of two and DS would hug him all night and dribble on him in his sleep.. they are not meant for that kind of treatment. But they're fairly hardy really.. at least for the average child I would think..

I would let DS's fascination die a death but DH keeps buying him more!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/07/2008 21:22

LubyLuby really??! DS would adore that! He LOVES monkeys!!

Wow thank you so much!!
