I recently sold an item on ebay and the buyer sent the money, and I posted the item.

Now, I did post 3 days late but I was on tour and didnt get the email with his address til I got back. I apologised to him, and explained that I was away. He seemed okay with it.

I have had about 15 emails from the buyer, claiming that he never recieved the item.
I have douvle checked the address with him. It was the right one. He has now opened a dispute on paypal and ebay about me and i dont know what to do. he is asking for POD number (?) and delivery number (again, ??)It was just a normal 'post in a jiffy bag' thing, so i didnt get anything like that?

I dont know what to do, and am worried as i have spent the money (it was nearly £200)

Even if you close your paypal account, don't they have your bank and home address details? Would closing your account erradicate all those details on their system?

sixlostmonkeys · 24/03/2007 22:27

hmm, I'm just looking around for info regarding closing paypal, and it seems they may not allow you to close it. If they can't get the money from your bank account or registered credit card, I'm not sure how far they would go to get the money

ScoobyDooooo · 24/03/2007 22:38

Sorry this has happened to you.

There is alot of people on ebay conning out there so he may be doing it too.

You said there is a dispute open is this through paypal or ebay at the moment? If it is paypal then you can not close an account with an open dispute, this also goes for ebay.

I have had this done to me & they had tried it a couple of times before me, it was only for a dvd i sold, but they had it 3 weeks then decided they were going to open a dispute through paypal, they had obviously watched the dvd but wanted there money back now, so i point blank refused i had also only sent it 1st class & did not have a recorded delivery number so me being me & thinking ahead of hi, i decided to write an envelope to his address, sent inside sorry no refund in big letters & posted it recorded delivery, i then had a recorded delivery no, came home typed this in when asked & that was it end of story dispute closed.

I would not have done this if i honestly thought he was genuine but he was pulling a fast one.

Jules - hijack welcome! Takes my mind off this worry..!

I'm in a rock/blues/soul/country/funk band, we do a mixture of covers and our own stuff, depending on the gig!

I play Bass (hence the name!!)

I also DJ for a few club nights, mainly prog, funky, electro, deep and soulful house, and breaks.

I also play percussion bass (with the drummer from the band) for a monthly club night we run.

My main influences are: Bob Dylan, The Who, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Bob Marley, The Waterboys, The Strokes, The Kinks, The Beatles, Weezer, Stone Roses, Rolling Stones, The Coral, The Libertines, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Arctic Monkeys, Bill Withers, Janis Joplin, Mike Scott, Elvis, David Bowie, The Montrose Avenue, Straw, Joy Division, Talking Heads, The White Stripes, OCS, Radiohead, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Oasis, Woody Guthrie, The Charlatans, Nirvana, Buddy Holly, REM, Razorlight, Primal Scream, The Pogues, Velvet Underground, The Fratellis
and for DJing:
Cassuis, 2 many DJ's, Soulwax, Felix da Housecat, Green Velvet, Laurent Garnier, Mylo, Lifelike, LCD Soundsystem, Dirty Vegas, Fedde Le Grand, Roger Sanchez, Armand Van Helden, Stanton Warriors, Eddie Halliwell, Optimo, Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Sasha, Timo Maas and Fatboy Slim.

Do you play in a band?

sixlostmonkeys · 24/03/2007 22:46

Scooby's advice is waaay better than mine!!

I'd simply send an empty box or envelope

They can & they do just take the money, if you can not fill in the dispute with the relevant information it will go in favour of the other person & they will take the money.

I would do my suggestion & do it quick so you can put your proof of postage number in, then the dispute is back to the buyer & closed!

BassMama · 24/03/2007 23:05

SHIT cant have that scoody - thanks!
will do it tomorrow.
Cheers guys.

Jules - If your into downloading and like house, try beatport, its good. And do you buy mixmag? its a great way to get loads of info on more varied dance music and clubbing scenes.

2manydj's can be a bit hard - try some more soulwax produced stuff though its slightly more 'mainstream' mixes, they have a wicked remix of Children Of The Revolution from the 2manydj's EP2.

Are you into clubbing as well? Thats how I got into DJing, to be honest bass was a hobby I was a DJ first, and met other DJ's, ended up being asked to play percuss bass for a mates set at a HUGE club, went down a storm, and then he asked me to join his band.. then i became better known on the scene and it all kind of went from there! got more DJing gigs from it, and now play some of the biggest club nights in Scotland!

DJing is VERY expensive to start up though, luckily I was kid-free when i started (years ago!!) But decent decks, headphones, cables, amps etc are all so expensive.. and thats before you even start buying vinyl!!

It would seem odd, however, to have a recoreded delivery dated AFTER he started disputing the delivery.
That would maek you look like the one who was conning him TBH. It means nothing!

He may be conning you, or he may be genuine and have sent you £200 and receieved nothing because the post has been nicked/lost.

I am sorry, I don't know how you will resolcve it, but i do think that trying the postage thing will make you look a bit dogey TBH
Sorry...

BassMama · 24/03/2007 23:14

Shit.. good point.

So - how do i stop them stealing my money back?!

OP posts:
ScoobyDooooo · 24/03/2007 23:17

Well to be honest you could say that but paypal don't check things like that they don't even have the time to do wha there doing now.

I had no choice but to take the risk because i knew i was being conned. I had no option but to try & it worked for me & he did not get away with it!

Goodluck i can not think of any other way to help you but hope it all works out ok

BassMama · 24/03/2007 23:18

Jools - did you see my message?

Thanks everyone for all your help - i really hope i can sort this out.

i cant because the paypal dispute thing wants me to enter a number from the receipt.. so if i tolf him i had found it i would have to enter the number.

Plus i have told him lots of times that i didnt send it recorded so i have no proof..

J20BABYLOVESCHOCOLATEEGGS · 26/03/2007 23:55

ah, no because the date would have been after the dispute was opened, so would have been pointless.

I'm getting so worried!

OP posts:
BassMama · 27/03/2007 00:09

Xposted nurseyjo!

i assumed it wasnt possible to track a random parcel. Ill get onto royal mail tomorrow and see what happens.

I hate to say this because I am an ebay seller too, and I'm on your side because you're a mumsnetter and therefore OK (!) but what makes you think he's trying to con you? Maybe he just spent 200 quid on something that he didn't get.I think that if you try any of the ways of getting a pop nubmer that have been suggested you will look dodgy and may even end up in the small claims court. Which is what you would do if you bought and paid for something which didn't arrive. (sorry - just trying to be realistic)The PO will do its best to investigate a non delivered parcel even if there is no proof of posting - it just won't pay any compensation. I would tell your buyer that you are going down this route and ask him to check with all his neighbours to see if the parcel was delivered incorrectly. But, sadly, I do see you having to pay him back somewhere down the line. Perhaps when the time comes you could suggest splitting the cost with him and repaying half?
