Early Spring Clean : Anyone for a 400 pounds by Easter challenge?

Gameboy · 19/01/2007 13:44

Was listening to a radio programme the other day about making money from your old things and it made me realise how much stuff I've got 'waiting to go on eBay'.

Just wondered if anyone fancied a challenge to see how much we can each make from selling the unwanted stuff we have by Easter. I reckon I could get to about ?400 maybe?

We'd have to share our eBay names, and then keep a running total of everything we sell between now and 31st March?

For simplicity's sake I'd suggest we just tot up the totals invoiced (incl. P&P)rather than the net profit IYSWIM?
To include only unwanted items - not trading of new goods etc....

I thought if it became competitive it might spur me into action more !

Gameboy - love the old Mr Grace comment - (showing our age?). How young and innocent we were back then - I honestly didn't see why people laughed at Mrs Slocombe's pussy, and thought John Inman was just a funny man - as for Larry Grayson's Everard and Slack Alice, I'm sure today's kids would understand straight away but I was blissfully ignorant!

Anyway, back to business - I have the princely sum of £1!!!! Sold a book on MN!

399 more pounds to go...

bothered · 26/01/2007 14:27

Ive got a sky box in the garage - wow £30.00. How many days is it best to list for???

I wonder also is there a best selling items list? sometimes you just don't know whether its worth putting things on especially as I see it as my junk!

MrsSpoon · 26/01/2007 14:35

I need to join this. I have loads of stuff to be Ebayed/Amazoned (don't think I'll come close to £400 though). Will try to make a start this weekend.

fannyannie · 26/01/2007 14:39

first lot of auctions ending in 1-2hrs time - up to £33.90 (excluding p&p) so far.

Gameboy · 26/01/2007 14:57

Bothered - there is a way you can search completed listings to see what you have to sell has sold for in the past? Think you do it through 'advanced search' and select 'completed listings' from a menu some where? It's good because the current listings don't show very much 'cos so many things get 'sniped' up in value at the last minute...

(Housemum - agree COMPLETELY - I never 'got' any of those jokes either )

oh poo - just listed quite a few books on the Marketplace on Amazon (first time I've used it) and now realised there's an "auction" thing on there too.........which is the better one to use???

ooo how exciting one of my PS1 games that looked like it wasn't going to sell had a last few seconds bid for 50p

fannyannie · 26/01/2007 16:26

oh do PLEASE excuse my excitement - blame it on the pg hormones - but I'm well chuffed with myself.

all 8 of my PS1 games have ended now - and I sold 6 of them - for a total of £10.92 (excluding P&P). I now have £6.47 currently sat in my Paypal account (that's after the cheeky b*ggers have taken off around 30p off each of the 3 payments I've receieved so far

charliecat · 26/01/2007 18:11

I have just under £45 in my paypal now, but ive spent £10 ish on my credit card in posting...how are we totalling this up at the end?

fannyannie · 26/01/2007 18:14

not sure CC - I think we're doing total incluidng P&P at end of the auction - so disregarding any Paypal/Postage/Ebay fees.

fannyannie · 26/01/2007 18:17

if that is the way we're doing it then I'm up to £56.90 - with £14 of it already sat in my PP account.

radcliffe · 26/01/2007 18:18

I would like to join please. This inspired me to put the cotbed on a noticeboard at work and sold it within 1 day for 50 quid. Will start putting stuff on ebay this weekend.

Gameboy · 26/01/2007 18:30

I don't really mind HOW we do it... I just thought it might be a pain having to work out fees etc?

What totals does eBay easily give us?

Don't think I'm going to be leading the revenue stakes any time soon though (although I DID just nag DH to get a fireguard out of the garage to photograph... )

OP posts:
fannyannie · 26/01/2007 18:36

Ebay easily gives either sold price, or total price including P&P. I suppose the 'fairest' way of doing it is by how much it sold for (so that people who do 'buyer collects' items don't 'lose out' on money for their total, on the other hand people who charge more for postage could end up with larger totals. But then doing by how much it was sold for could make it tricky for those that sell on MN or Amazon where P&P is included in the money made......
