I bought DD a phone & paid to have it next day

On Wednesday, they haven't even posted it yet according to Royal Mail

I know it's only a day; but it concerns me that they say they have despatched it & they haven't (apparently)

Is this a Royal mail hiccup or have I made an enormous mistake?

no - because if it doesn't come you can get a refund

Have you messaged to ask when it was sent and for the tracking, and what is their feedback like?

KatyMac · 04/09/2014 18:45

99.3% for 29253

They gave me the tracking number after first saying they would expect it to have been posted yet - which she backtracked on when I said I'd paid for next day

Royal Mail says "Status: Please come back later

We have been notified that your item is being shipped by the retailer; the next scan will appear when we receive this item."

Is it OK to email them this
"Thanks for the tracking number (I rang as you didn’t reply to either of my emails)

Could you explain what is happening with my order and why I have not received it? Unless it arrives by midday tomorrow, I will need to cancel as I won’t have a phone for when I need it.

I am upset that I have paid extra for next day delivery and not received it"

or is that too arsey?

ok - they have sent standard signed for (not special delivery which is the guaranteed next day one).

Does the listing say they will post the same day?

KatyMac · 04/09/2014 19:42

It says
"Delivery service - Royal Mail Special Delivery (TM) 1:00 pm"

I paid on Tuesday (not wed)

They said it was despatched on Wed at 10:30

I thought that feedback % on that number of transactions was quite good (perfect wouldhave looked dodgy)

so it may not have sent first class. If it does arrive too late then you can refuse delivery and get a refund. How much was it?

KatyMac · 04/09/2014 21:01

I feel somewhat cheated as I expected the phone today.....however if I don't get it by tomorrow I will feel angry as I have made plans assuming it would come

OP posts:
KatyMac · 04/09/2014 21:02

199 +7 postage

I think the postage seems cheap now

OP posts:
KatyMac · 04/09/2014 21:03

I wanted to get it transferred over & insurance in place before the weekend

Feel a bit daft now

OP posts:
Jacksonville14 · 04/09/2014 22:31

well standard signed for will not be adequately insure either.

KatyMac · 04/09/2014 22:48

Sorry I meant phone insurance so DD can't damage it Hmm

The listing said it was insured for up to £500

I am a mug

OP posts:
Jacksonville14 · 05/09/2014 07:42

Yes I know what you meant - and the seller is a mug. If it is lost then they can't claim the full value of the phone if it wasn't sent Special Delivery.

I would open a not received case, don't sign for a parcel if it does turn up, and buy your handset from TMobile or whoever instead. Much less risk. What sort of phone was it.

KatyMac · 05/09/2014 08:53

iPhone 4s - I have been trying to buy it from Game but they are never in stock Sad

I'm not very good at this

OP posts:
Jacksonville14 · 05/09/2014 08:59

why don't you get it free and have a contract instead?

Jacksonville14 · 05/09/2014 09:53

I would think RM have lost it or it is delayed btw - guaranteed next day delivery not arriving is not the sellers fault. I woul ask them to chase it up for you though.

KatyMac · 05/09/2014 10:15

It's at the sorting office now- I think she posted it after I phoned yesterday

We can't afford a contract - her grandparents & uncle are paying for the phone & she is keeping her £7.50 contract with Tesco

OP posts:
Jacksonville14 · 05/09/2014 10:21

You can get the phone free on a cheapish contract.

KatyMac · 05/09/2014 10:24

not at Tesco - it has to be an iPhone for storing music for college & thier cheapest is £21

OP posts:
NovemberRainbow · 05/09/2014 10:29

She will more than likely need to up her contract though. As the iPhone has to do updates etc which will take up Internet usage. How much data does she get for £7.50?

KatyMac · 05/09/2014 11:05

She has 500 mins, 5000 texts 500MB inclusive data allowance & I can up that by 250nb for free

She will have free internet at home & at college - does that make a difference?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 05/09/2014 11:09

She didn't use any last month (she has an HTC atm)

OP posts:
NovemberRainbow · 05/09/2014 11:13

That doesn't sound bad. I pay £10 and don't get any data allowance, think I need to switch tariffs.

Hope it arrives today.

ShellsAndSunrises · 05/09/2014 11:20

It depends what the free internet is -wifi that she can connect too? And whether she is phone savvy enough to make sure her phone only connects during that time. If she connects while she's out of the house, and it does updates, it'll eat 500MB in a day.

I use 6GB a month. I'm a fairly heavy user, but I think your daughter will be, too. I also have wifi at home and at work, and my phone will automatically use either of those networks if they are available.

I'd look at how much it'll cost you per GB if she uses more. Usually the trick with cheap tarrifs is that they are stupidly overpriced once you exceed them.
