I'm getting back into my eBaying, massive clear outs will keep me busy over this free listings weekend, wondered if anyone wanted to join me in making Christmas as cheap as possible and having the good people of eBay pay for most of it!

OP posts:

lol - line - I have 2 rolled up in my loft! been there since last year when we got all the carpets replaced. I don't need them but they are in perfect nick - never thought about actually selling them!

LineRunner · 16/11/2012 14:29

Oooh, the loft .... more stuff and crap and dead pigeons Grin

PurpleFrog · 16/11/2012 16:05

You are making me feel at home! I am steadily removing things from the loft that I am going to get rid of, so our upstairs landing is currently piled high with all sorts of stuff. I really need to get things I do want to keep cleared from the spare bedroom and up into the loft, then I can keep my eBay pile in there! When we moved to this house I piled lots of boxes in the spare room because I didn't want to store them in the loft until they had been sorted through and labelled. I had no idea they would still be there 7 years later! Unfortunately, they have now been half unpacked and raked through and the room is a disaster! It looks like that will be a job for the Christmas holidays now!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 16/11/2012 19:47

I haven't been on this thread for a while but am popping back on to see how everyone is doing.

My listings have been very poor over the last couple of weeks. I have another buyer that wants to return a buggy which has really pissed me off Sad.

On the plus side, three items sold this week that were on their 5th or 6th listing.

I'm going away on holiday on next week but a friend is going to list a whole load of stuff for me which is great because I'm worried I'll miss the Christmas buyers if I wait until I come home.

Ds has decided he wants a PS3 so is going to sell his Wii and ps2 with all the millions of games/accessories that he has to go with them.

SNOWBall4girlz · 16/11/2012 21:57

Great news about free listing.

You are all like me thought I was the only one with suitcases full of clothes and a loft/ spare room full of boxes half sorted half filled there needs to be more hours in the day !!!!!

I am having a dizzy moment trying to get a few listings ready for tomorrow and cant find the button in the create your listing to schedule ??? aargh ;(.

I still have alot of my kids baby clothes which I might chance in bundles too.

Any advise appreciated.

dizzyday07 · 16/11/2012 23:15

I have sold a couple of bits over the last week or so but totally wiped out my Paypal account (and then some) buying DD a Nintendo DS for Xmas!

I too have suitcases full of clothes - but nothing in the loft as it's all in the garage Grin.

amck5700 · 16/11/2012 23:22

yes dizzy the garage I forgot about the garage......

garage = outgrown snow boots and walking boots - should be a market for that at the moment maybe?

Out tomorrow but Sunday means ass in gear and frantic listing!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 17/11/2012 08:13

Just listed my first two items of the weekend Grin. They are identical items so really only counts as one but it makes me feel better knowing there are two more things that might be leaving this house soon GrinGrin.

Just waiting for my shopping to be delivered then I'm going to unplug the Wii, photograph it and box it all up.

Got loads to do today so musn't get distracted on MN!

lljkk · 17/11/2012 09:23

I have a beautiful woven wool rug, Persian or Chinese. It's the type of thing that would sell for £2k today if new.

But it's no tags to prove what it is, and has a small oil stain. I don't know if I'll ever use it. I would sell it if I could think of a way to market it.

Mirage · 17/11/2012 13:33

eucalyptus oil removes oils stains,it might be worth trying.Otherwise try it in a real auction where people can see it and decide if they want to risk it not coming out.

LineRunner · 17/11/2012 16:40

Last week I sold every last bit of ski/winter clothing in the house, and everyone who bought it is happy and has left good feedback, so I would go for it, amck.

bluecarrot · 17/11/2012 17:17

Well, target has just been smashed - £510.79. Im loving free Buy It Now listing! Stuff is flying out the door. 76 items worth £350 altogether still online (ad will be for next 30 days if not sold before. Feels like a weight off the shoulders!

House continues to feel cluttered though....hmm

PurpleFrog · 17/11/2012 17:50

I must admit I am really surprised that 30-day BIN listings are included in the FLW. [I did a scheduled re-list earlier to check!] As usual I am kicking myself that I don't have more things prepared and ready to list. I have been out all day, so intend to do some re-lists tonight and write some listings, so that I am ready to get new photos done tomorrow morning and make the listings live tomorrow evening. On the plus side I did wash the salopettes last night so they should be ready to list this weekend.

amck - I sold 2 pairs of walking boots on eBay last winter - one ladies' pair and one kid's pair. Because they are so heavy I didn't get quite as much as I would have liked. [I had tried Gumtree and the local paper first with no luck.]

LineRunner · 17/11/2012 17:54

I have a really heavy pair of caving boots I wouldn't mind selling, but the postage would be ridiculous! I've tried free local collection without success.

I've never used a courier before. Would it help?

DorisIsWaiting · 17/11/2012 18:06

Collect + is the best way to go for small but heavy. (I also offered cheaper postage if they were prepared to pick it up from the shop (£3.49 for up to 10kg or £4.99 delivered)

I 'm really frustrated atm have being selling really well for the past few weeks, but sold 2 bits of IKEA kitchen stuff on acollect only , and get someone asking me to box it up for a courrier, it's awkward shepped for i box and I only got £1.98 and I don't want to have to hang around all day for the courrier pick up...arrggghh! I have another non paying bidder and I'm so close to £300.

LineRunner · 17/11/2012 18:09

£1.98 and the buyer wants you to faff about with a courier? And you put collect only?

I'd tell them to collect or cancel.

fergoose · 17/11/2012 18:18

you don't want a buyer arranging their own courier either - you won't have the tracking no incase of loss, and if it arrives damaged the buyer could still claim from you

Also if you are short on time do your listings really quick and brief, get them live and up and running then add photos and all other detail/info the next day or so.

lljkk · 17/11/2012 18:50

Geting a courier for heavy wool rug would be tough, too, though.

Rug is too nice to use myself (before DC grow up, I mean).

I have an American commode chair which I am thinking to try flogging, but getting a courier for that also a nightmare. I got some quotes off of AnyVAn for like £50 to shift it from here up to 150 miles away.

Any other suggestions for how to cheaply courier very awkward things, like a spindly fragile antique chair? Or a 8' long 50 kg rug?

LineRunner · 17/11/2012 18:52

I've got a rug like that, lljkk. I keep thinking, I must Do Something With You.

lljkk · 17/11/2012 19:08

How are you gals getting 30 day BIN for zero-fee listing? Is it only on new & scheduled items? I'm not getting BIN for 30 days as an option on my relists. (?)

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 17/11/2012 19:10

I think it's worth asking a proper auction house about any big and old furniture/rugs - otherwise local paper maybe?

I have an issue, someone bought some shoes and they don't fit - they're asking if they can swap for the right size. I don't think they've realised I'm not a business seller!

Would you offer a return+refund or just say sorry but I can't? They've already left +ve feedback.

lljkk · 17/11/2012 19:11

Never mind, I figured it out, pleased as punch !! :)

COCKadoodledooo · 17/11/2012 19:18

May I ask a quick question please? Don't know why I asked because I'm going to anyway... Grin

If it's free listing this weekend, does that not apply to the mobile app? Only I listed some stuff today and it told me I'd be charged. Does ebay just not like me? Sad

LineRunner · 17/11/2012 19:37

lljkk How did you do it??

bluecarrot · 17/11/2012 20:14

cockadoodledooo - did you put them up for auction with BIN option as well? That costs 8p.

I listed all of mine via the app and none charged.

Linerunner - have you tried? You just hit relist, and where you normally put in the prices for auction, look up a tiny bit and you will see a tab saying fixed price. Click on that and fill out as normal. Check that it says free before you submit.
