I'm getting back into my eBaying, massive clear outs will keep me busy over this free listings weekend, wondered if anyone wanted to join me in making Christmas as cheap as possible and having the good people of eBay pay for most of it!

Is there a list of banned items somewhere?

I have an ecig kit that i want to get rid of but there don't seem to be any for sale on eBay which makes me think that they're not allowed.

There are bids on 4 out of 6 items with lots of watchers on everything so i'm really pleased with this week's ebaying Smile.

I have 4 big bags of stuff from my sister to put on so am going to try and work through one of the bags tonight. There are lots of pairs of shoes which I'm not an expert on so might be back later for advice on how to describe them Grin.

BeaWheesht · 18/09/2012 18:48

Someone's just messages me asking if they can buy something which didn't sell as they forgot to bid - how do I arrange this?

fergoose · 18/09/2012 18:54

Bea - you just relist it from your unsold items, and you can edit it to add a buy it now price too if you want.

lljkk · 18/09/2012 19:21

Hiccup there's a list of prohibited items here, but I can't see used nappies or underwear on it. Confused

Just see if someone else is selling same thing, or has done recently?

LineRunner · 18/09/2012 19:26

Used nappies are 'Not Allowed' in the 'Uesd Clothing' section of 'Restricted Items'. It's a minefield!

LineRunner · 18/09/2012 19:26

Used typo

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 18/09/2012 20:33

Thanks, lljkk.

E-cig is on the prohibited list, though not quite sure whyConfused.

BeaWheesht · 18/09/2012 21:51

Thanks fee goose that's what I thought but how would I ensure no-one else bought it?

Bongaloo · 18/09/2012 22:08

Bea I sent a buyer a link in my reply message to her. I knew she was on line at the time as I'd offerred to do it straight away

Bongaloo · 18/09/2012 22:20

So, I'm still bombarding ebay with listings (I say bombarding it's way more drib and drabby than that). When do you need to worry that you're listing too much and getting into the realms of business selling then?

Just watched a baby's clothes bundle go for more than 3x what I'd hoped for

I'm on £75 now :)

:)

LineRunner · 18/09/2012 23:09

Bongaloo, my understanding is that private selling is selling things you own and no longer have a use for; and not making a living out of it.

I don't think HMRC will be getting excited about your £75 and my £25 from the past week/month Grin . HMRC did do a big swoop earlier this year and ask eBay for sellers' details, but that was where there was a lot of activity that seemed at odds with 'private seller' status. If you are happy that you are a private seller then your eBay and PayPal accounts should be able to prove that.

Most of my eBay sales are the DC's stuff.

fergoose · 18/09/2012 23:19

If you are selling your own items you are a private seller, but if you buy to sell on you are a business seller and need to register as such with eBay and HMRC.

LineRunner · 18/09/2012 23:23

I saw someone on the community boards on eBay lambasting private sellers who sold clothes in lots of different sizes as being people who bought in charity shops to 'sell on'.

I thought, get real. I have lots of clothes in two sizes. My DD has lots of clothes she has outgrown or doesn't want over three other different sizes.

It's called having a growing family!

Bongaloo · 19/09/2012 10:02

That's okay then. (I was getting a bit excited about my £75 :D )
When I think now of all the stuff I've actually thrown away in the past....

lljkk · 19/09/2012 12:44

ARGH. I just read the fine print for Collectplus & I think (anyone wish to correct me??) that you can only send something for £4 if it's in a jiffy bag, or similar soft bendy padded materials. So I can't send a small box of fragile items for £4. . Unless there's a way to pack fragile items safely in soft packaging (I don't think so).

Anything in a box has to go their standard parcels rate (£5, only just below RM rate of

fergoose · 19/09/2012 13:24

but you will get a signature with Collect Plus, you won't with standard parcels will you. Have you tried Hermes for a quote too?

lljkk · 19/09/2012 14:03

Hermes website says £4.19 without a sig. Thing that makes me nervous is I've tried these online quotes before & then when I go to actually order & pay that low rate isn't available any more, I end up spending stupid amounts of time trying to find the lowest rate after all. So it's impossible to predict ahead of time & get delivery price right on the Ebay listing. And you know how some p people like to tirade if you charge a grasping 30p over the actual Courier/Royal Mail price!! I prefer consistent pricing.

I know it's only Internet Gossip, but Hermes not getting great reviews here.

Also, whilst I understand the sig thing, I'm sending some items basically FFP so not too bothered. Is Hermes one of the couriers will you have to agree to wait in for them during big time windows? I strongly prefer a service where I can go there & drop off & be done with it at my convenience.

mirpuppet · 19/09/2012 20:58

Woo Hoo

Total sales:

£343.72

from the last 9 days free listing period. I am a happy camper!

LineRunner · 19/09/2012 21:01

Wow, what are you selling?!

I have made £25.

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 19/09/2012 22:14

So far I'm at £84 on ebay, £31 from a car boot, and I've also made £110 from selling a dolls Silver Cross pram, but I'll decide whether to count that nearer to christmas, when I see how close I get!

mygirllollipop · 20/09/2012 10:47

I've made a whole £29.14 this week but got about 60 listings lined up for tonight.

LineRunner · 20/09/2012 13:26

Does anyone know whether it's worth trying to sell 'used' cosmetics and toiletries. My DD has a fair bit of stuff (usually presents) where she's opened it and tried it once, put it away and never used it again. Perfumes, lotions, nail polish, the list goes on. Is it tacky to try and sell?

lljkk · 20/09/2012 16:50

Are they on the banned list? I saw something about cosmetics, maybe used ones are banned.

I read once on MN that used cosmetics go very well at carboot sales.

LineRunner · 20/09/2012 17:19

Ah yes, thanks, there is lots of into on the 'Potentially Infringing' page.

I can sell some stuff, but not some other stuff. I think I can box up the 'Infringing' stuff and put it on Gumtree as a potential carboot lot.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 20/09/2012 20:54

Could I have some advice please?

I have a breast pump listed, for UK delivery only.

I have had one bid so far (it runs until Sunday), by a bidder from the Ukraine who has got terrible feedback (when you read it through, everyone has had to give a positive score though!) and who frequently doesn't pay.

Is there anything that I can do?
