I'm getting back into my eBaying, massive clear outs will keep me busy over this free listings weekend, wondered if anyone wanted to join me in making Christmas as cheap as possible and having the good people of eBay pay for most of it!

OP posts:
IwishIwasmoreorganised · 15/09/2012 14:28

I've not sold anything since Easter, but have just put 3 things on.

I used the iPad app for the first time, but didn't mahpnage to edit the typing in the description to make it more professional and eye catching. Has anybody managed to do that?

It's a start and I could do with getting lots more on before our great run of birthdays start and then Christmas!

How are things going generally ATM?

LineRunner · 15/09/2012 14:50

I am so slow at listing. I annoy myself.

lljkk · 15/09/2012 16:42

It takes absolutely friggin' ages, LineRunner. Totally does my head in.
That's why I now schedule listings & sort of work on them like a piece of art, can take ages to finish a listing properly, honing them together until I am sure all okay & ready to go live. Getting a good picture up is always the biggest hurdle.

Update: Dozens of watchers on the 2 bikes, but only one bid, although that buyer seems legit at least & is coming next week to pick up. Luckily, someone who was watching came up today & bought the other bike :). Had 11 watchers on something else that didn't sell, too, but I expect it to go fine closer to Xmas.

LineRunner · 15/09/2012 16:49

Glad you sold the bikes, lljkk. Weird how loads of watchers didn't result in more bids. EBay is a mystery to me.

I'd better take some more photos whilst the light's still good.

lljkk · 15/09/2012 16:55

I chatted about that with the guy who came & bought today (I told him I wouldn't cut him a great deal because the 32 watchers made me think it would be worth listing again at same price). He said he often only watched because he wanted to sell similar & wanted to see what things sold for, he didn't know about the Completed listings tickbox to see what stuff had previously sold for. And I thought I was a techo-ignorant luddite. Common, maybe?

Bummer if we can't shift DS's metal dectector for a good price, though there's still many weeks to Christmas.

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 15/09/2012 18:12

I used to watch things for that reason too. I am techy too so not sure how I missed completed listings!

A buying question if you don't mind, if you're collecting something from a seller would you paypal them in advance or do the transaction once you are there and have checked it?

LineRunner · 15/09/2012 18:13

About 15 weeks till Christmas! I am hoping October and November are busier.

I have lots of decent condition children's books and toys.

McPhee · 15/09/2012 19:53

Finally my arse is in gear.

Only listed 6 items at the moment. Mainly Maternity clothes and stuff I got for Dd and she's never going to wear. People are watching things, and I've already got 1 bid on a Maternity top. It's a start Smile

Hopefully I'll get a chance to dig out more stuff and list tomorrow.

Bongaloo · 15/09/2012 21:02

Yes it's a long winded way to declutter. I've cleared cupboards faster than this before.
But, I'm on about £30 now - it's great.

McPhee · 16/09/2012 11:03

I've only got one bid so far, but 5 watchers on a M&Ps Maternity top. So fingers crossed one of them bids.

LineRunner · 16/09/2012 11:12

I need to get off MN and start writing descriptions!

I've made up some boxed bundles of books, eg ten books by Maeve Binchy, a dozen books by Iain Banks. I'm going to stick them on Ebay and Gumtree, collection only, on the off-chance they'll sell.

Anyone like to suggest a reasonable price? I just want them gone, but would dearly like to recoup a few quid.

lljkk · 16/09/2012 12:43

TeWi the seller is best protected if they only take cash on collection, not paypal on collect-only items. However, if they are happy to accept Paypal then I would just ask seller what they prefer. Some sellers even insist that you make a 10% deposit on an item within 36 hours of winning or they threaten to relist it.

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 16/09/2012 14:34

I thought that about cash and offered, but they are a newbie so want to do it the paypal way... if we pay now and they go awol would it be fairly easy to get a refund do you think?

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 16/09/2012 14:38

Linerunner, 25-50p per book? (how much is postage for that many?)

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 16/09/2012 14:43

I have watchers on everything and bids on two items so am pleased...still have another week to go aswell Smile.

Got to tidy all of downstairs this afternoon and if I'm finished early enough will list a couple of things later.

Re iPad eBay app...I haven't found a way to edit the text but I'm not really too bothered anymore. I think as long as you have a good photo and a clear description then that is more important.

Certainly when I'm searching on the iPad, it's far easier to read the plain, normal sized text descriptions than the ones c&p'd.

bemybebe · 16/09/2012 14:51

can i join you guys? need to sell some maternity items and need some first time hand holding...

bemybebe · 16/09/2012 14:55

...and diving equipment.

lljkk · 16/09/2012 17:06

I've never claimed back money from Paypal, TeWi, it's called chargeback, but it's supposed to be frightfully easy. Sellers moan a lot about it. Here's a guide.

Right, , need to get a load more stuff listed.

LineRunner · 16/09/2012 17:19

TeWi, I don't think books are worth selling when postage is factored in, tbh. I was thinking of Collection Only, and maybe a fiver a box.

Might suit avid readers (like me!) or people looking to stock up for car boots or for 2nd hand book shops.

Hi, bemybabe, I only started in June! Thank the lord for MN, otherwise I would never have got going. Smile

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 16/09/2012 20:18

Oh crikey, very easy - remind me to make sure I get a tracking number for all parcels in the future! Shock will just pay now then.

Collection only for big bundles of books is probably the way to go.

notcitrus · 16/09/2012 22:06

OK, help needed! I listed some items and laboriously ticked the boxes for every one saying where I do and post to, as they didn't carry over to the next listing. For most stuff I said I will send to EU but nowhere else, and then went to the 'block bidder' bit for blockign countries to which I don't post, but the site kept needing refreshing.

So somehow some 0-feedback person has bid on some item, from Mauritius, but going into the listing I can't see anything saying where I post to. Can I cancel the thing, and more importantly, how do I set Ebay up to save who I block?!

Tortoise · 16/09/2012 22:15

DS2 is happy. His xbox sold for just over £122 and the broken iphone sold for £26! Grin Now just need his ipod touch to sell!

notcitrus · 16/09/2012 22:17

Update- have cancelled the auction as I don't really care if someone with 0 feedback leaves a neg, and gone through the help centre and should have non-Europe bidders blocked permanently now.

On the plus side, a BNWT dress just went on BIN so even with undercharging for postage for a couple items, I'm on around £92.

Hoping Ebay picks up over the next couple months - it's really dead. Apparently Facebook is the place to sell baby stuff now?

LineRunner · 16/09/2012 23:00

notcitrus, you need to go on your main account ('Site Preferences' 'Block Bidders'), to manage and block bidders, e.g. bidders outside the UK, so you just do everything once.

McPhee · 16/09/2012 23:11

A couple more items listed tonight.

Still only 9 listings though...Dd has been a pickle so not much spare time.

Still, I've got watchers and a bidding already so not too bad. Some interest is better than no interest
