Post your listings and questions here. The purpose is to raise money for Christmas and I'll start by showing my (so far) meagre listings here

Does anyone else get really paranoid when waiting for feedback? Even though I know the stuff I sent was in good condition I get a sweaty top lip when I see a message in my inbox Blush.

bilblio · 08/09/2011 21:44

Charlie, yep I get nervous too. One item that I posted 2 weeks ago still hasn't had any feedback. I'm assuming they got it. In future I'll make sure I leave feedback straight away.

Last night I took up the perfume to the buyer who lives near me. She was so grateful. She works shifts, so if it had been posted she'd have had to collect it from the post office, and posting glass things is always a bit worrying.
She'd bid £13.50 for the perfume, she was happy to pay £1 towards petrol, but she actually gave me £15 in total. :)

I've also had someone else come to the house today to collect a computer power supply. It would have cost £10 to post, so that's another £20 I've made.

I've sold another item too, so keeping the prices high, but being patient seems to be working. I've got some more things to list this weekend, mostly 99p ones, then I might start digging out the winter coats to list.

Carrotsandcelery · 09/09/2011 10:59

Can I join in? I am a newbie to ebay (first listings this week) and won't make it to £350 but have an incredible desire to list more and more.

So far I have listed 5 things. One item seems to be getting a lot of attention and bids and the rest have no bids at all. Is that normal?

I am trying to list just one or two items a day so that I don't have to take too many parcels to the post office at a time. It is right beside the school so I am there every school day anyway.

I am trying to resist the urge to check my listings every ten minutes Grin I am told I should try to ignore it until the last 5 minutes.

Anyway, I would love the support of fellow listers.

fergoose · 09/09/2011 11:06

yes it is normal - most bidders only bid in the last few seconds.

Try and end your listings in the evening so you get more potential customers.

Carrotsandcelery · 09/09/2011 12:21

Thanks fergoose Smile

fergoose · 09/09/2011 12:55

:)

Carrotsandcelery · 09/09/2011 22:47

I'm very excited - the one item I posted that was getting loads of attention already has more bid for it than I paid for it in the first place Shock

One other item has a 99p bid and nothing else has taken yet

mogs0 · 10/09/2011 08:55

Carrot - well done!! I find it very addictive and check my listings constantly to see if there have been any more bids placed. My local post office let me drop off a big bag of parcels and some cash then process them when they're not so busy. I go back in at the end of the day and collect my change and receipts. It's a very good service and I don't feel like I'm holding up the queue with my 20 items!

LaWeasel · 10/09/2011 09:21

That's very handy mogs. 'though since I am at home with DD I tend to just go when there's no queue.

I also think I am not the only ebayer at my post office, I was behind a woman the other day who must have had 50 parcels, she knew the staff very well!

Carrotsandcelery · 10/09/2011 09:40

I live in a tiny village that has managed to retain its post office. I know the girl who works in there and they are very accommodating. They want as much business as possible as they want to keep the post office open. I will just potter along as and when buyers have paid up though.

Tortoise · 10/09/2011 23:01

All my items end tomorrow. 3 have one bid. Very few have one watcher. Mostly no bids or watchers! I foresee a lot of re-listing!

Carrotsandcelery · 10/09/2011 23:11

Is that how it usually works if you have no bids at this stage Tortoise?

I have one item going bananas and one at 99p. Some of the rest have watchers but no bids, some don't even have watchers.

Good luck Tortoise hopefully it will be a rainy day and everyone will be on their laptops. Grin

Tortoise · 10/09/2011 23:18

Carrots There is no predicting what will happen. Even an item with watchers might not get a bid! I've had 9 watchers on an item before and no bids. Re-listed it, had 7 watchers. Still ended with no bids!
I have my fingers crossed for more bids!

Mousey84 · 10/09/2011 23:38

Oh, can I join too please? I decluttered a lot in last few months but some stuff ended up sitting in boxes in my room, but last weekend I pulled my finger out and started listing stuff as it was free listing weekend. Listed a few 99p items today, and hope to do more tomorrow, but a biggish box of things sitting waiting til next free listing day :)

Heres my wee corner www.ebay.co.uk/sch/lmccrean/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=. Ill be back tomorrow to read the whole thread :)

dizzyday07 · 10/09/2011 23:50

I've had a couple of items sell today - not for mega ££ but every penny counts! DD's Rainbows uniform finishes tomorrow and all 3 pieces have bidders so that will help towards buying her Brownie one.

Had a Grrr... moment though when a buyer for a collect only item thought we were in the Welsh Newport! So now got to go through the palaver of cancelling the transaction and then relisting.

DecapitatedLegoman · 11/09/2011 11:28

Got a few bids on items ending today so hopefully they'll sell well. Must get some other stuff photographed for listing later too ...

Tortoise · 11/09/2011 11:31

I've taken photos of a pile of clothes! Few items of school uniform which should really have been listed before now! Done small bundle according to age.

akaemmafrost · 11/09/2011 11:34

Do you know what? I have been thinking about doing this for ages. Some great ideas on here. Sorry if its already been asked but how do you work out the postage for an item so that you can show how much that will be. I have TONS of desirable items crap I can put on there. Will now go and read the thread!

DecapitatedLegoman · 11/09/2011 11:47

Weigh them and check pricing on the Royal Mail website. You get a feel for prices quickly. Good luck!

Tortoise · 11/09/2011 12:00

I weigh on kitchen scales and put info in royal mail postage calculator on the website. Or use the one on Ebay listing page.

LaWeasel · 11/09/2011 12:08

If you have bigger items www.p4d.co.uk is a good courier comparison type site, it's a lot cheaper than using royal mail and parcel force for heavier stuff.

Mousey84 · 11/09/2011 17:14

Started listing yesterday but decided to wait til next free listing weekend for the rest in the hope Ill get more sales based on combined shipping opportunities! (at least, I always check what else sellers have...maybe Im the only one?)

Im contemplating something Id love feedback on.. Imagine you are buying something thats listed as say, 760g, and also says that anything between 750 - 1kg costs the same to ship, would you go look for other stuff from that seller?
Basing this on the "free shipping when you spend over £30" type idea, since I always look to buy something else, just to save on shipping.

What do you think?

Tortoise · 11/09/2011 17:42

Mousey I always look at other items just in case I can save on postage especially things like clothes because the postage can make it not such a bargain.
On my listings I always say please take a look at my other items. And I put that I will combine postage on multiple purchases.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 11/09/2011 17:56

Hi, can I join in? Need to get a new front door desperately, so aiming for £200 in the next few weeks! Confused

Anyway, here's my stuff. Got more to list later on as well.

DecapitatedLegoman · 11/09/2011 18:04

When do you guys leave feedback - after you've heard from the buyer or after they've paid? I have always withheld feedback until it has been left for me on the advice of a friend but it seems unfair and I think I'm going to start leaving it once payment is received.
