Post your listings and questions here. The purpose is to raise money for Christmas and I'll start by showing my (so far) meagre listings here

I agree cancel their bid - no point letting auction run then ending up with a non payer.

dizzyday07 · 12/10/2011 17:49

Can I ask you veterns whether it is worth putting on a couple of different editions of Trivial Pursuit plus 2 sets of questions?

notcitrus · 12/10/2011 18:15

Ok, figured out how to cancel bid and cancelled it. Other things are doing well, though, touch wood. Two hours to go on the best stuff...

dizzy probably not given how many TP sets appear in my local charity shops - the postage would be a fortune! Though a set of questions that's unusual might work - do you have the Food and Drink set as I might be interested?

dizzyday07 · 12/10/2011 18:22

The sets we have are the "normal" set and a 1980's one. The questions are RPM Volume 1 (so music related) and Baby Boomer

Mousey84 · 12/10/2011 21:17

Millie - I find it very addictive, but the huge pile of stuff Ive collected to list is a bit daunting! Have to keep reminding myself that it will make me some much needed cash and space!

Today I cleared out the craft room and rediscovered many bits and pieces Id bought to do projects that I no longer have the motivation to do, so trying to work out if I should sell as a kit (for making roman blinds, or threads plus x stitch chart - that sort if thing) Then spent the evening with DD doing some of the craft kits she got for xmas last year that we promptly placed in cupboard and forgot. :)

mogs0 · 12/10/2011 21:22

Mousey - I agree! My piles of ebay stuff are multiplying and just seem to get bigger and bigger.

All the items I had listed this week have now sold - woohoo! So, now that I have nothing else to watch, I shall list a couple more bits and pieces to keep me going. I think all the high value items have gone now so I'll start on the 99p stuff Grin.

notcitrus · 12/10/2011 21:52

Gah - everything was going so well, but then out of 27 futon watchers, only got 1 bid - having turned down a couple people who were interested from Gumtree, so that's £99 rather than £150 if we hadn't turned down the others!

£171 in total so far.

mogs0 · 12/10/2011 22:03

notcitrus - it's so difficult to know what to do, isn't it.

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 12/10/2011 22:37

I've been poorly with tonsillitis :( so not listed for a week and have finally managed to get a few more new things on tonight. My listings are here

We managed to make a paltry £8.00 this week so far, pretty rubbish, just like this time last month, so we've decided we will skip listing things to end in the 10 days before monthly pay day. Not that we would have sold more items but that we probably would have made more on the things that we did sell.

Anyone that's not making much at the moment or making 99p on stuff, if you can hold out until November then do as there is a kind of Christmas buying switch that seems to flick on once we get past November 1st, and perhaps put your 99p things on for a higher price on a free listing weekend so you make what you need to.

I have 3 large bags of random things plus 3 boxes of crockery to list now - all from my parents, and when that's done we shall be finished - if I'd not been poorly last week I'd be done now.

Top tip - anyone who has toiletries/bath sets/gift sets of any kind that you don't want, get them listed for Christmas, likewise anything that can in any way be considered 'Christmassy' like candles or socks etc. get them listed now :)

Mousey84 · 12/10/2011 22:49

Was just wondering where you had got too, but figured Id just missed the message saying where you were!

Sorry you are feeling poorly, but what an inspiration to keep listing anyway!

Carrotsandcelery · 12/10/2011 22:57

I have had a very successful day and made about £45 tonight. Increasing my listing price to £1.99 seems to have boosted my final prices a bit - or maybe it is just coincidence.

The jodhpurs went for £12 in the end so they are definitely worth selling if anyone has any riders in the family. We had a Mini Boden towelling swimming dress and it sold for over £11 too, despite having some undone stitching. I have regained some faith in ebay now Grin

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 12/10/2011 23:40

Thanks for missing me Mousey:) I'm just determined to be done with ebay by the middle of November and then I too shall be wandering around the house spotting things to list.

Carrots - well done, I think sometimes it's worth being brave and upping the starting price a bit - I wonder if a higher starting price makes people think it's 'more valuable'? Probably some psychological thingy going on.

OP posts:
Carrotsandcelery · 13/10/2011 09:45

Maybe so Dino. It also means if there is only one bidder it doesn't go for a pittance.

I had been watching some jeans for my dd that are currently in the Next catalogue. The start price was £4 which I thought was a bit steep but they sold for £12.50. You can buy them brand new for about £14. Shock The marketing obviously worked though. They were only Next, not Joules or Boden or Hollister or anything.

All my parcels are packaged and ready to post. I just need to get dressed now Grin

CristinadellaPizza · 13/10/2011 10:30

Sorry you've have tonsillitis DHU - it's horrible :(

Quick question for you all - assume I can change posting once bidding has ended? I've said that I will reduce for bundles but if I can't change the posting costs then I won't be able to.

I've got a spot in the school nearly new sale next month so I think I will sell toys etc there rather than on ebay because I have a lot of wooden stuff which will be expensive to post and I think I might actually make more there, even with the 20% I have to give to the school. I'm still going to add that stuff to my total though because it's all part of the same thing.

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 13/10/2011 11:16

You don't need to change the P&P on the auction - if you haven't already you can add that you will offer combined postage, then when the auction has ended you just revise the P&P on the invoice before you send it to reflect the combined postage - I'm assuming you will need to pack and weigh the combined items anyway to get the right P&P cost.

OP posts:
dizzyday07 · 13/10/2011 11:23

My posting bags have come so that means I'll HAVE to list some more bits now! Grin

CristinadellaPizza · 13/10/2011 12:44

Thanks DHU, v helpful. Someone has asked me about int' postage plus bundling so it's a bit complicated but I've given her a cost now

roosterroo · 13/10/2011 17:44

wow,

cant believe how many people are so organisedSmile

her are just a few to start www.ebay.co.uk/sch/lrud3454/m.html?item=260868915650&sspagename=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649&_trksid=p4340.l2562

i have one of the Meerkats to list, will try and add him at the weekend
[hsmile]

notcitrus · 13/10/2011 17:48

One option for combining postage is to ask them to pay by Paypal the given cost and then you can refund depending on how much money you end up saving on postage.

Had two more people call up about the futon today (10 days after listing on Gumtree) - so MrNC tried hard to talk the winning Ebayer out of it but he's taking it anyway. At least it will be out of our way.

Have had someone ask if I can send an item to a different address than their Paypal one as they are staying with ILs while building work is done. They sound honest and it's under £5 inc postage so I think I will unless you all tell me this is a well-known scam?

Carrotsandcelery · 13/10/2011 17:52

Your listings look good roosterroo - nice clear photos. I imagine a Meerkat would sell well.

I am not managing to photograph for more listings with the dcs off school - we are either too busy or there are too many toys around.

I have tried photographing at night but the light isn't good enough and I end up with weird shadows.

Dh is supposed to be off work tomorrow (will believe it when I see it) so I might get photos done then. I can do the write up in the evenings and schedule it then for Sunday or Monday night. I find Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are all busy.

I have no idea how those of you with dcs below school age get time for listing [awe emoticon] [hgrin]

fergoose · 13/10/2011 18:29

Notcitrus you should only send to paypal address

If buyer wants item sending to different address they need to add it to their paypal as a gift address, then choose that address when they check out and pay you via paypal. I would send recorded too if you are at all concerned.

dizzyday07 · 14/10/2011 08:21

Free Listing this weekend!

mogs0 · 14/10/2011 11:28

Ooh, great. I've got a few things that I want to list that have a start price higher than 99p. Can you list things on BIN for free too?

dizzyday07 · 14/10/2011 14:50

It's only free for auctions starting at £1 or higher. You can still add a BIN but you will get charged for those as normal

notcitrus · 14/10/2011 15:49

Also if you want to relist stuff for free, you aren't allowed, so click 'sell similar' and then keep everything the same. :)

I'm away this weekend so won't be listing, but we've found some more mobile phones to list as soon as MrNC erases his personal data. And have posted all 7 items paid for so far. Mailing bags were a great idea as they have made packing so much easier! And take up very little space, so will stick most of my old jiffy bags (which are heavy) on Freecycle.

I did notice that I was paying a bit more for postage than I charged in most cases (I usually just charge what everyone else does rather than weigh), so very glad I was using minimal bubble wrap and light mailers.

One happy recipient so far - does anyone else panic for a few weeks that they are suddenly going to have an unhappy buyer unleashed on them?
