Post your listings and questions here. The purpose is to raise money for Christmas and I'll start by showing my (so far) meagre listings here

Lotsa Watchers is good. Sign that you (probably) shouldn't sell early if anyone offers.

I now have about 73 quid in Paypal account & DH already wants to spend it, ha!

LaWeasel · 10/10/2011 10:59

Got bored of waiting for the end of the month so getting ready to list a few more bits on 10day this thursday.

Should be the wii bundle going up again, a load more pushchair accessories I couldn't find the first time and a collection of unopened bodyshop body butters etc which seem to sell quite well - fingers crossed! Really want to raise some extra money so we can go and visit a friend before Christmas Grin

HalleLouja · 10/10/2011 13:50

My page here.

Has anyone got any top tips of items kids or adults that sell well. Have lots of CDs, not sure if its worth trying to sell those.

fergoose · 10/10/2011 14:26

Halle you may be better ending your listings in the evening

also try and take more close up photos - perhaps on hangers. Don't you get so many pictures free? if so take pics of each individual item and have more clearer pictures on each listing.

Mousey84 · 10/10/2011 16:02

for cds, i quickly checked ebay, but since most were a few years old, I just used moneymagpie as they were about 99p each on ebay (and market saturated)- while I only got 30p per cd on music magpie, when you think about the time taken to list each, and fees you incur with ebay, I thought 30p with music magpie was fine

notcitrus · 10/10/2011 16:07

Had no bids on Sunday so made a whole £8. However have got up to £25 already with bids on a couple things I didn't think anyone would want, which end Weds!
And neighbour wants the table that didn't sell, so that's a couple hours free babysitting at least. :)

Time to go weigh some stuff to give p+p quotes for Europe...

LaWeasel · 10/10/2011 16:43

CDs are probably not doing that well, I've had some luck with DVDs, but only boxsets and special/limited edition ones. I look them up first to see how they normally sell.

HalleLouja · 10/10/2011 20:19

Good point about CDs. Will have a look at music magpie though.

I thought most of my items finished in the evening, will double check that.

What do people do about non-payers? I have reported them and on Friday they said they would pay but still nothing. Do I just have to wait til November or can
I do something else??

Thanks. I haven't sold things for ages.

You do have to pay extra for more photos though.

Carrotsandcelery · 10/10/2011 20:29

Halle it is unpredictable. Sometimes you need to pay more for extra photos and half an hour later (or so it seems) they are all free. I have yet to fathom what I am doing differently Hmm

I seem to find Mondays a good day for selling on ebay. I have had heaps of action on my listings today: watchers, bids and questions.

I have a pile of books ending tonight with no movement on them at all. I have a game I relisted (originally at 99p now at 1.99) that has now sold - bidding isn't finished but it looks like it will be 1.99. How strange when it didn't sell at 99p.

Halle I mostly sell children's clothes and have found Mini Boden, Nike, Hello Kitty branded items, Joules and stuff like that sells well - often close to purchase price and in one case twice purchase price Shock The vast majority of our stuff is Next though and although it nearly always sells, the prices are more modest. That said, it is still more money than if I just donated them and goodness knows I need the cash. Blush

I have dabbled in selling childrens card games and jigsaws and, again, they sell but not for large sums. The postage on these items means that bids will always be limited.

fergoose · 10/10/2011 20:40

if multiple photos are not free you can host them yourself in photobucket then cut and paste them into the body of the text - and then you can add as many as you like.

Carrotsandcelery · 10/10/2011 20:45

Clever!

Seabright · 10/10/2011 21:11

Good results at the weekend, I'm up to £217.55 (gross). Only one item listed at the mo, must try & knuckle down tomorrow night & list some more.

HalleLouja · 10/10/2011 21:28

Free photos - will have to give that a go.

I have a Joules jumper that is gorgeous but a bugger to get over DSs head and not really been worn so will put that on.

Have 2 nice Jasper Conran hoodies that are identical so might sell one of those too.

CristinadellaPizza · 10/10/2011 21:37

When I was listing clothes, I found that children's clothes were multiple free photos but baby ones were just one free. So 12-18months were one free photo, 2-3 years was multiple free photos.

Whether that was just when I did my listing or is a standard thing I have no idea. Ebay is a mystery frankly

CristinadellaPizza · 10/10/2011 21:38

Oh and well done Seabright - that's excellent!

HalleLouja · 11/10/2011 09:28

How do you copy from photo bucket? [Photobucket novice emoticon]

I have taken some photos of a baby gap romper (bnwt), a swaddle blanket and some other bits to try and sell. Not getting addicted.....

Carrotsandcelery · 11/10/2011 10:28

Gah! The postie has just returned a parcel I posted with a sticker saying the address doesn't exist. I have messaged the buyer and asked them to confirm their address. This is going to cost me money rather than make me money. The item only sold for 99p and by the time I post it again that money will be more than wiped out. Sad

CristinadellaPizza · 11/10/2011 16:13

Oh that's crap c&c :( Can you ask the buyer to pay for the cost of resending if you are sure you got the address right? Why should you be out of pocket if they have cocked up?

Tortoise · 11/10/2011 16:16

carrots, if their address is wrong in paypal they will have to pay postage again. Of course, if it was your error you would have to cover it.

Carrotsandcelery · 11/10/2011 20:36

I have messaged them and they confirmed their address. It is the same as the one on the parcel and the one on ebay so it looks like it is Royal Mail. I have decided not to risk my feedback for £1.72 and to repost one time. If this doesn't work then I won't repost again though.

How annoying!

Millie1 · 11/10/2011 21:40

That's a bummer Carrots - hope it gets there next time!

Can anyone recommend somewhere reasonable to buy mail bags (don't need a huge amount) and bubble wrap please?

I had 11 auctions end on Sunday night - did okay with over £110 before fees. The highchair went for £56 which I was delighted with (especially as I have another one!) and the foot muffs for £18 each. Neither buggy sold so am going to realist them but with UK-wide delivery rather than collection only. Don't relish the thought of packing the Easywalker!!

Does anyone else find themselves walking around thinking 'Oooh, I could eBay that'? Gosh, it's addictive!

mogs0 · 12/10/2011 09:05

If my items that are due to finish tonight end at their current bid price, I'll have made £480! I have cheated a little by selling 3 high value items but am hoping to list 10 items a day for the next few weeks. Today, I'm going to start on the bag of clothes my sister has given me to sell and get a couple of the bigger items on to help clear a space a bit quicker.

I have decdided that 10day listings are just too long (my nerves can't take itGrin) so will stick to 7day.

mogs0 · 12/10/2011 09:07

Carrots - I hope it gets there second time round. I'd try and get the original postage refunded from the post office or get them to re-post it for free. They should have the facility to check whether an address exists or not.

Millie - I get my mailbags from eBay but use recycled jiffy bags as much as possible. I once bought a giant roll of bubble wrap off eBay which lasted years! I think it cost about £10.

notcitrus · 12/10/2011 15:54

Tschah - someone bid 4.99 on a book on the weekend, someone messaged me this morning to ask if it was hardback (I answered on the listing, it's pb), bidder has now messaged me to ask if they can withdraw their bid...
Would it be really bad to just ignore them until the auction ends in about 3 hours??!!

Coffee table has a bid and some watchers so hopefully will get that out of the house. Futon has 27 watchers and there's 40 watchers on my other stuff, so hope to make more than £45...

dizzyday07 · 12/10/2011 17:37

notcitrus - I'd let them withdraw as otherwise they just might not pay, accept a strike and your book will still be left possibly unsold
