Post your listings and questions here. The purpose is to raise money for Christmas and I'll start by showing my (so far) meagre listings here

Ooh! Just found out something my friend gave me has been selling for in excess of 20 quid (might go to 30+). I will flog on Ebay & give her half (making a commitment here & now to not follow greedy instincts & keep it for myself). She'll be thrilled!

Out of that bag of clothes I bought for a tenner are a lot of other brand name items, in excess of my boys' needs, I'm sure. I need to go thru it carefully & look for more to flog :).

Good luck on the Dreamrider, Seabright, I love those carriers, but only got a fiver for mine. Angry

carrots I've had some joy selling sets of books, ideally a whole series but a few in a series together often gets them shifted. But if they're bog-standard paperbacks available in the library/charity shops near you, people won't pay the postage. Out of print stuff can do well (I have some Chalet School ones and 1970s Enid Blyton listed atm, search for david_conflux ...), and anything to do with pregnancy/babies!
If you want to get into selling textbooks or other more obscure stuff, look at Amazon Marketplace - and then see how many books are going for 1p, and dump them on the charity shop...

Larger sizes of adult clothes sell better, and it has to be a brand people have heard of, usually. And you need to provide measurements of the item.

Carrotsandcelery · 07/10/2011 15:03

Thank you Nocitrus I will give up on the books then.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 07/10/2011 15:52

Ugh... that was a boring morning. Hours spent listing loads of clothes [yawn]

Should go live on Sunday, I'llpost a link then :)

JarethTheGoblinKing · 07/10/2011 15:52

Oh, does anybody have a good idea what a pair of size 18 jeans would cost to send 2nd class? I don't have any scales here atm.

CristinadellaPizza · 07/10/2011 16:16

Should I get some of those bags then? I was going to send stuff in recycled packaging (haven't charged much for postage) but will people think I'm awful and skanky if I do that?

mogs0 · 07/10/2011 16:30

Notcitrus - interesting re books. I have loads of pregnancy/baby books and had been putting off listing them as I wasn't sure if they'd sell.

Also, I've got tonnes of size 18/20 clothes so must get my act together and get listing.

I've just broken the news to ds that his room is going to be used as an eBay room for the next few weeks. He was too engrossed in scooby doo to seem bothered Grin.

Mousey84 · 07/10/2011 16:31

I reuse packaging when I can and explain that I reuse for environmental purposes with the added benefit of keeping their p&p costs down. No one has ever complained.

Have put those bags on my list of things to buy tomorrow (today is a no-spend day for me!) as far easier than brown paper/tape option and Im running out of jiffy bags to reuse.

notcitrus · 07/10/2011 16:32

cristina - I've just invested in my first pack of mailbags. They're great for selling small cheap items where you want to charge the same postage as everyone else and still make money.
If you're only making 99p, then an extra 30p postage on a reused jiffybag mounts up, not to mention the hassle of sellotape.

That said, I've sold about 100 items without buying any before. Bin bags or plastic shopping bags and loads of packing tape can fulfil the same purpose and people don't complain as long as your p+p is only a bit over the actual postage.

mogs0 · 07/10/2011 16:41

I reuse jiffy bags too - I seem to have rather a lot to reuse aswell Blush

dizzyday07 · 07/10/2011 16:47

Thanks for the link. I reuse packaging too but as I haven't been buying much lately have nothing left - and even my plastic shopping bags are getting low. I do go a bit overboard on tape though!

lljkk · 07/10/2011 17:09

I've always reused packaging, nobody ever complained, how can they if I barely charge more than actual postage, especially on items that sell for only like... 2 or 3 quid? I sometimes use a lot of tape to keep it together.

pud1 · 07/10/2011 19:26

Just listed a few more bits. Feel free to tell me what you think
eBay

GossipWitch · 07/10/2011 19:28

Whoop I sold the album for 99p yay !!! also sold £35 quid worth of stuff on my fb page :)

dizzyday07 · 07/10/2011 22:08

just had a request asking if i will post one of my skirts to Croatia. Is it a "safe" country to send to?

Seabright · 07/10/2011 22:14

I'd post to Croatia, especially if not too expensive an item. My stuff goes abroad sometimes, so far, nothing lost

dizzyday07 · 07/10/2011 22:42

Thanks. I've informed them of the postage cost but as there is already a bid on the item I'm not sure if I can revise to include International Delivery anyway!

GossipWitch · 08/10/2011 10:45

how do i get the reciept thing that goes in the packages this is the first item i'm posting ?

Carrotsandcelery · 08/10/2011 12:35

I have never put a receipt in the package. Should I have?

flack · 08/10/2011 16:42

I don't either, Carrot, I don't usually sell things for enough money to make it worth my time.
You can print out an invoice or receipt or something, GossipW.
If I receive one it just goes straight in the recycling, too.

fergoose · 08/10/2011 18:07

I never put in a receipt either -waste of expensive ink and I agree more stuff to recycle and wade through.

And I try not to read the notes I get in packages telling me to leave 5 stars either.

You can print a packing slip from paypal can't you?

Carrotsandcelery · 08/10/2011 19:00

I have finally got two bids. Yay! I have heaps listed just now and no bids at all until this afternoon. I was beginning to lose all hope.

Tortoise · 08/10/2011 19:19

Someone just messaged me on ebay to tell me that the bike I have listed with bidding and bin of £120 is only £100 in toys r us!

Carrotsandcelery · 08/10/2011 19:27

I won't tell anyone if you don't tortoise. Do you have it as pick up only or is there a courier option? Not everywhere has a Toys r Us.

Tortoise · 08/10/2011 21:49

pick up only. I looked online and its instore only, not available for delivery. Lowered reserve to £70. It's on £62 at the moment. Ends tomorrow night so fingers crossed. Also fingers crossed that DSs bloody bed sells! Will be giving away soon if not, so fed up with it taking up space in his small room.
