Raise £350 for Christmas - the new eBay challenge

Post your listings and questions here. The purpose is to raise money for Christmas and I'll start by showing my (so far) meagre listings here

Carrots - Yay, am pleased you got them on at last - no idea why, but sometimes your auction options are limited when you sell similar (limited to what you did before I mean) - I think it just sets it up as a template in the same format. Post your link Mrs!

Would be good to know when they sell (nosey emoticon) :)

Does anyone else have positive experience of selling with BIN only for popular items?

I can't post my link or it will out me as I live in a tiny village and my village name seems to appear on my listings.

I will let you know how I get on with it though. I am viewing it as an experiment as I have been fairly greedy optimistic with my prices.

I have listed a few more items today, using your trick Dino so will have to remember to edit them to start tonight.

I am still trying to do little and often although post a few more things at a time now.

How is everyone getting on?

housemum · 05/10/2011 14:40

My items all have 1 or 2 watchers, but as some of it is Emma Bridgewater stuff I think people do what I do and watch to see what it goes for as they have the same. Sold a pair of child's trainers last night for £5 on a local Facebook group (Buy and Sell Childrens Bits [name of my town], where local mums put photos of stuff they want to sell), and sold a couple of storage things on there last week. Have just priced up a load for the local NCT sale in a couple of weeks too.

total so far, eBay £105, Facebook £20 (in danger of looking like a ticker from another website there... ;) )

LaWeasel · 05/10/2011 14:45

Wahoo! I think the endless saga of the wii is finally over, with a little compensation in the way in the post from the couriers too so feeling very pleased. Also planning on listing it again to end the first week in November... when I do should I explain that it's been listed before or will no one care?

Seabright · 05/10/2011 16:48

La Weasel: I wouldn't both explaining. It will be quite a while since it was listed before, no-one will remember

pud1 · 05/10/2011 16:54

Carrots What sort of Wii games have you got? (or would you be happy to pm me your ebay name? I doubt I know u unless u live in a small town in Somerset!)

housemum · 05/10/2011 17:56

Hi pud1 - I'm by no means an expert on eBay but they look fine to me, pretty much like the pictures I take. welcome to the challenge!

pud1 · 05/10/2011 18:13

Thanks. Need to have a good look to see what I have got

notcitrus · 05/10/2011 18:23

Thanks dinosaur - that's what I was doing!
Finally this afternoon I tried yet again, used standard not basic uploader, and right-clicked to highlight the pics... and slowly on the 2nd attempt each they worked!

17 futon watchers now - probably mostly you lot! :)

Now, how to describe a fish tank that leaks about 6 drops worth per 24 hours when the pump is switched on...

Carrotsandcelery · 05/10/2011 19:33

Tortoise I have pmed you.

Carrotsandcelery · 05/10/2011 20:38

I am back with yet another question.

Do you remember that ages ago I opened a case about someone who had won an auction on one of my items and then not paid up?

Well, they still haven't paid up.

The ebay section about it says I can close the case now.

What does that mean? Does it mean I can relist the item and try to sell it again?

Does it mean that ebay will no longer charge me fees for that item?

Does it mean that the buyer will get negative feedback for failing to pay?

I am confused yet again. Confused

fergoose · 05/10/2011 20:58

yes close it now and you will get your fees back then you can relist.

the buyer will get a strike and will be unable to leave you any feedback.

Carrotsandcelery · 05/10/2011 21:02

Thanks fergoose Smile

I seem to be incapable of finding the answer to anything on ebay.

My 99p rash continues to spread. Should I be listing things at higher prices?

On a plus note some of the stuff I listed tonight has watchers already and one of my wii games has a watcher, despite there being cheaper offers on the same game out there Hmm

fergoose · 05/10/2011 21:10

I would list higher than 99p yes, otherwise is not worth your while after all the fees.

Carrotsandcelery · 05/10/2011 21:14

Can you change the start price on items already listed? And can you do it if you already have watchers? Questions, questions, questions...

Carrotsandcelery · 05/10/2011 21:41

I hope you can - I just did, just incase by some miracle I got a bid. I am fed up feeling ripped off so I will see what happens now. Of course I lose 15p per item if they don't sell so there is a gamble involved now too. Fingers crossed.

It seems that unless it is Boden, Gap, Monsoon or a sports label it doesn't seem to sell well.

Millie1 · 05/10/2011 21:59

Hope that works for you Carrots! I've got a few watchers and now a bid on the highchair from the person who asked whether I would courier it. Parcelforce is working put at around £17 so I'm going to tell her £19 as I will have to dismantle it and get hold of a strong enough box to send it in. Hope to goodness that the pram goes - bills are flying in here!

Millie1 · 05/10/2011 22:04

Oh, I do have one question! Should I revise my highchair listing to say I will send by ParcelForce - it would open up the bidding but would it seem a bit 'off' to do that at this stage?

Carrotsandcelery · 05/10/2011 22:12

Thanks Millie. I am afraid I have no idea about the courier thing. That is way beyond my level of experience. Hopefully someone who knows what they are doing will be along in a minute.

I have a few watchers - I suspect they are all you Tortoise Grin

Tortoise · 06/10/2011 01:22

Mll

Tortoise · 06/10/2011 01:26

No idea why my phone posted before I finished typing! Oh well lol.

Millie yes I would revise listing but I would use a courier like parcel2go. Will be about £10 then which looks better than nearly £20 postage.

housemum · 06/10/2011 12:12

Millie - if I revise a listing, I make it clear why I've revised so no one worries that I've changed/hidden something - eg : * revision * have found out courier rate of £x so this has been added to postage options

housemum · 06/10/2011 12:13

that was supposed to be a couple of stars either side of the words revision, automatically made it bold but you see what I mean!

SerendipityAlways · 06/10/2011 12:20

Hi there -Doing really well on ebay at the moment, have made over £120 in the past 10 days on 3 good items, shoes, boden and some Hilfiger shirts. On target to make the £200 mark by the end of this month hopefully as have 5 more items I hope to put up over the next 2 weeks!
