Raise £350 for Christmas - the new eBay challenge

Post your listings and questions here. The purpose is to raise money for Christmas and I'll start by showing my (so far) meagre listings here

Thanks fergoose.

I have sold loads today. Lots of small numbers but it all adds up. Not one of my books has sold though. I have relisted them all with an evening ending now to see if that helps.

Is there a limit to the number of times you can relist?

Millie1 · 04/10/2011 12:44

I've had bids on two small items, have a watcher on the Easywalker pram and have had an email asking whether I would considering couriering the highchair. Seems like an enormous hassle but maybe itmwould be worth it - I have it listed with a starting price of £45 (they seem to go for £50-70) ... is there a specific courier anyone would recommend? How easy is it to price an item - do I just need the weight or the box dimensions too?

Seabright · 04/10/2011 12:47

Millie1 - I've only ever used ParcelForce, at the post office. They seem good.

I have another bid - on a snowsuit! I guess someone's thinking ahead and realising this weather is a freak, not the norm. Was in two minds as to whether to list it at all; glas I did!

Carrotsandcelery · 04/10/2011 12:59

I think they are Seabright as the kids thermal layers I put on sold well this week, despite the change in the weather.

I haven't much going on now for what seems like ages, after yesterday's flurry of activity. I think I need to list more to keep the ball rolling. My initial box of stuff to sell is emptying although there is still enough in it to keep me going a wee while longer.

housemum · 04/10/2011 13:21

Joining in a bit late here, sold £102 on the last free listing day and have just relisted the unsold items here: eBay stuff

I need to get some more stuff shifted, but it takes so long listing it all - the house still hasn't recovered from the last Sunday afternoon I spent photographing and typing whilst the kids caused havoc and mess everywhere! I have a juicer that I really should sell, but don't know if I should wait until the New year health kick/diet season (and it will be blardy heavy to post!)

notcitrus · 04/10/2011 13:30

Thanks fergoose - but after going down my entire cookies list and deleting all the ones with 'ebay' in the name, and restarting Firefox, it's still doing the same - the status of the pic is 'uploading' forever.

Annoying as the pics are of books in the same series as ones that have been bid on! Will turn computer off and try later. 22 watchers, 9 on the futon...

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 04/10/2011 14:04

For Carrots and anyone else interested here is a link to show you the emails that ebay send on your behalf at different stages. I'd always send my own message too though as that's how you may be marked on communication for the DSR's.

Notcitrus - have you tried listing the book and then editing the existing auction to add the picture after - that sometimes works for me.

I think there is a limit on re-listing when the price is over 99p but not sure what it is, I think maybe twice?

As we list all our stuff at 99p and don't do more than 100 a month we just tick the box to relist everything automatically when it isn't sold.

And we made £105 this weekend, so my new target of £200 by Christmas seems doable though I've not got so much left to list now - must go through the boys games, there's a trunk full of them and non are often palyed with.

dizzyday07 · 04/10/2011 14:19

I have sold 5 of DD's outgrown jumpers and 2 CDs. They only went for 99p each but at least I'm making some space here and it will be less to pack when we move!

I have bids already on a couple of my ladies clothes and a watcher on at least 6 other items!

mogs0 · 04/10/2011 19:13

I have a bid on two items so far!

I'm trying to empty ds' stuff from his drawers and bookcase ready for the buyer to collect on Friday with the bed but there's so much of it! I shall try and convince him to let me eBay some of it Grin.

Carrotsandcelery · 04/10/2011 19:26

Thanks Dino. Lots of helpful information there. I am using your trick to list a few more things tonight.

I am making an attempt at BIN (never done that before) on some Wii games. Would it be risky to start them at 99p do you think? I would be really annoyed if they went for 99p. Should I maybe pay up for a higher start price to be on the safe side?

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 04/10/2011 19:36

Carrots - lesson I've learnt is that if you put a BIN price and a 99p bidding start price it only takes one bidder at 99p and then BIN disappears but if you put a higher starting price like £2 you are less likely to get someone taking a chance and more likely to sell with your BIN so long as it's not way more expensive than others listed. I'd definitely go for the higher starting price or just go for BIN for 30 days.

OP posts:
Carrotsandcelery · 04/10/2011 19:43

Thanks again Dino. I didn't know I could do a BIN for 30 days. I take it that means with no bidding option? That is maybe what I should do here. Is it easy to do?

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 04/10/2011 19:46

And make sure you put the BIN price higher than you initially think you should - just saying that because we experimented earlier this year with 2 identical Xbox games, same condition, ending within 1 minute of each other etc. - one with a BIN of £10.00 and the other with a BIN of £13.00, the £10 sold almost straight away and the other sold the next day - so go for a little more than you think you want if that makes sense?! DH said £10 was the best we could get but I said if it's a desirable commodity like games, consoles, electrics, designer clothes and jewellery then people want it right away, just like they would buy the same thing from Amazon. I won :)

Carrotsandcelery · 04/10/2011 19:53

I have been trying to edit my listing which I have not started yet. I cannot figure out how to make in BIN only and remove the auction from the listing. Any suggestions? I would be a complete failure at ebay without this thread. Blush

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 04/10/2011 19:59

Carrots - when you go into the price section you completely remove anything from the starting price box and enter your BIN price in the fixed price box next to it - does that work? You may need to go all the way through to almost listing to see that it has worked. I've just done it with one of my existing listings and did a preview and it looked fine with a BIN only and no auction price.

OP posts:
Carrotsandcelery · 04/10/2011 19:59

I have found the information about fixed price listings but not the information telling me how to make it happen. Gah!

Carrotsandcelery · 04/10/2011 20:00

Aha! I will give that a go Dino Thank you.

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 04/10/2011 20:02

Or click on the fixed price listing tab at the top of the "Choose how you'd like to sell your item" section.

OP posts:
Carrotsandcelery · 04/10/2011 20:07

I don't seem to get that option. How frustrating! Aarrgh!

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 04/10/2011 20:14

Carrots - try starting a new auction that isn't a 'sell similar' - a brand new auction listing from the home page and i bet the option will be there. PITA I know but if you aren't able to add the option for fixed price it should sort it out.

OP posts:
Carrotsandcelery · 04/10/2011 20:17

Thanks Dino I will try that way. This is a steep learning curve. I appreciate your help Smile

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 04/10/2011 20:44

Do let me know how you get on, have everything crossed for you.

OP posts:
Carrotsandcelery · 04/10/2011 21:11

Sorry for the delay - I had to collect dd from guides.

The news is...IT WORKED!! Hurrah! Yay! Woop!

Thank you Dino - You will be charging me fees soon Shock

Now I just need to sit back and wait and see if it sells for the ridiculously inflated price Hmm

I did it through the advanced selling option. I have always done the quick sell before but I am learning, little by little.

Carrotsandcelery · 04/10/2011 22:42

Oh boo! I am now at my limit for selling wii games. I got a bit carried away Blush

Dh has earmarked a reasonable pile now for sale though so I can work away at it as they (hopefully) sell.
