Post your listings and questions here. The purpose is to raise money for Christmas and I'll start by showing my (so far) meagre listings here

As this thread is getting pretty long would it be a good idea for us to intermittently post our top tips for new Ebayers? I can start (caveat - these are based on my own experiences of selling over the past 6 years):

Best sales come from listings that end on a Sunday evening
Best time to end listings is 8.30-9pm, definitely not after 10pm
Best exposure for items is a 10 day listing starting on Thursday evening, followed by 7 days on a Sunday and 3 days on a Thursday
Never ask or chase for feedback
Good clear photos really important - photos of clothes should be on a neutral surface, preferably hanging up or on a mannequin
More than 1 photo is important particularly to show specific details - for clothes use the maximum free number allowed where possible
Fill in as many item specific details as possible when listing - these are used for search results
Don't start items too high - buyers want to feel that they've won a bargain
Be honest in description details - give as much info as possible, describe marks, damage or interesting features

So I'm going to have to contact a seller about something I've bought. Following my purchase of a fairly horrible bag I found a nicer one and won it. It arrived this morning, perfect, great condition etc. Put my purse and phone etc in it, took DS to his play session. As we were leaving I checked everything was in it and noticed the leather effect all peeling off! It's totally dry and crumbly so I think she probably took it out of a wardrobe and sold it confidently thinking it was fine. But it's not, the lightest use has it falling apart :(

I want my money back. Hope she's nice!

oopslateagain · 17/09/2011 13:15

My first two items sold for £25! Grin

I am addicted.

Carrotsandcelery · 17/09/2011 15:48

Well done oops I am new to this as well and totally addicted already. I made £33 last week and have made £43 today selling of stuff at a local sale.

I am just putting on one or two things a day as that is all I feel I can cope with at the parceling/paying stage until I get my system sorted out.

I am £75 better off than I would be without this thread though so I am delighted Grin

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 17/09/2011 21:06

I'm going to join in with you all if that's ok. I listed 7 items last week but only 3 sold, so I've got some resisting to do. However I got £29 for a pair of Charlie and Lola dolls that were as new and I only paid about £15 for them last Christmas so have still made a profit. I've got lots of other bits to sell too.

I find that the most random stuff can sell - I've sold used make up and skin products, used gift bags and allsorts. There's a thread on the MSE forum about strange things that people list successfully. Well, they say that one man's trash is another man's treasure Grin.

BTW, what does 'DRSs' mean? It was referred to earlier and I'm intrigued as to what it is.

Millie1 · 17/09/2011 21:08

Can I join please? I've photographed loads of stuff today, mostly Grobags (9!!), couple of kids coats and a cot and changing table.

Please can someone tell me how I can rotate the photos? They are in the correct orientation on my PC but as soon as I try to upload they all revert OT landscape.

Also, with the furniture ... I'm in Northern Ireland. I'm going to put collection preferred but given my location I expect that will be rather off-putting! Would it be reasonable to say that I will price a courier if a buyer is interested?

Thanks

oopslateagain · 17/09/2011 21:35

Question to regular ebayers - I have quite a lot of clothes from DD (age 12-13); none are designer labels, mostly George/New Look with a few River Island and Next. Would I be better listing them in lots of 3 or 4 items, or listing them separately?

And does anyone know how to combine postage if a buyer wins several of your items?

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 17/09/2011 23:21

oops - I'd list them in bundles as large as you can with variety - trousers, tops and skirts in each bundle.

If a buyer wins more than 1 item you need to put all of their wins together to weigh BEFORE they pay - weigh their winning items together (inc. packing), work out your P&P costs and then send them a combined invoice and adjust the P&P on it to the amount you have worked out - ebay will let you combine items on an invoice so long as they haven't paid for anything before that. Just click on the send invoice button against one of the items and all of the items that they have won should appear, edit the postage against the postage options you are offering and then send invoice to include eligible items. Preview the invoice if you aren't sure.

If the buyer has already paid before you can work our the combined weight and P&P then you have to send as per the PayPal confirmation - each item individually etc. OR refund and re-invoice for the combined items.

Millie - if you open the original photo that you have loaded on to ebay does it open with the correct orientation, I mean from your own folder, not on ebay?

I had a similar problem but realised that although I was rotating them on my PC to view correctly I hadn't actually saved them that way in my folders. HTH

Anyone know what these boys toys thingies are please? photo

OP posts:
oopslateagain · 18/09/2011 00:40

Dino could it be by this company? I know yours has more colours but it looks like a similar sort of construction.

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 18/09/2011 02:06

Oops - there's no link in your message!

OP posts:
Millie1 · 18/09/2011 09:25

Thanks Dinosaurs - shall check that out later. See what you mean and suspect that's the problem.

Have one item love with two watchers and 9 more items going live after 9pm tonight (see, I've read the thread!). Took hours to do that much! Have jeans and a pair of girls Clarks books from last yr to put on and that's before I tackle the cot etc!

MustControlFistOfDeath · 18/09/2011 10:04

Dino is it K'nex?

Carrotsandcelery · 18/09/2011 10:08

I wonder if you could list it as a construction toy and see if anyone bites.

You could also start a thread about it to see if anyone knows what it is.

LaWeasel · 18/09/2011 10:17

I think it's probably not k'nex, the cogs don't look quite right <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=k%27nex&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&biw=1400&bih=887&tbm=isch&tbnid=xFYu4SyPCOvP0M:&imgrefurl=prince.org/msg/100/347962&docid=uqWgKkf2oxb_bM&w=536&h=515&ei=vLZ1TrWKB42o8QPy2pnsDQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=757&vpy=328&dur=124&hovh=220&hovw=229&tx=143&ty=140&page=1&tbnh=172&tbnw=183&start=0&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">k'nex here

A thread in chat is a good idea, someone will know what it is!

Maybe this Dino?

Carrotsandcelery · 18/09/2011 10:30

Could it be something like this? It is hard to tell.

oopslateagain · 18/09/2011 11:17

Grin sorry Dino, link is here

Oops! Living up to my name! Grin

Machin11 · 18/09/2011 13:23

Dino - Thanks for link, I'm going to take advantage of free listings around 7:30 - 8:30 tonight!! Will start photographing everything very soon when I stop playing on mumsnet it says it's only free listing if you list at £1 and above, so no .99p starts for me lol.

DecapitatedLegoman · 18/09/2011 13:57

Check, but I'm fairly sure 99p listings are free anyway!

Machin11 · 18/09/2011 15:25

Doh, thanks Decapitated!! That makes sense lol, I will take advantage of the free listing for a couple of perfumes that I want to sell, I'm always dubious about starting them at 99p, so can at least start them £4.99 and it's free to list!
Hmmm, wishing Sunday away so I can list everything :)

chirpchirp · 18/09/2011 17:43

Got the last of my listings ending tonight, haven't had time to list more for next week as I go back to work tomorrow and I'm attempting to get my life in order (Hence why I'm procrastinating here). Everything's got watchers and most already has bids, really hoping it will all go! Alreday made £130 through buy it nows this week so if I could get another £30 off this lot that would be i-diddly-deal.

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 18/09/2011 19:32

Thank you to everyone who had a look at my pic - it's kind of like both the ones you posted oops and carrots - think i will list as bunch on contruction toy cogs or similar and see what happens. Thanks again.

Hi everyone, can I join in?! I'm not making money for Christmas, but DC1 is on the way (I'm 15+3) and trying to make enough money on ebay, to be able to buy an icandy (or similar) off ebay - so around £150-200 is my final target.

Have spent what feels like most of the afternoon listing my pre-pregnancy wardrobe (I've ballooned and all these clothes were making me depressed!)

I've got a pair of diesel jeans listed so I'm hoping that will boost my 1.99 tops!
