@mabel9 I am so sorry to hear that. I hope you and your partner are doing okay. I can't imagine what you are possibly going through right now. If you need to talk about any of it please don't hesitate. I'm gutted for you!

ally99101 · 29/10/2020 15:43

So sorry to hear @mabel9. Hope you're doing ok otherwise and can look forward to continuing your journey when the time is right.

LifeIsBusy · 30/10/2020 21:45

@mabel9 I am so sorry, I don't think there will be any words to help you through this but please make sure you talk to your husband and anyone else you're close to (or to the counsellors at GCRM). The fertility journey can be so cruel to so many people. Once you're ready physically and mentally you will try again knowing that it's possible to get pregnant and that this isn't for nothing which is how I always felt at the end of a long IUI cycle with my OH. Thinking of you and your family x

BananaHammock23 · 01/11/2020 19:21

Oh @mabel9 I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you're coping as well as you can be and being well looked after.

We're due to start IVF on Tuesday-ish but I feel a bit panicked about the lockdown after last time. My clinic have emailed to say they have no plans to close but referred to a HFEA statement from 13th October which doesn't fill me with hope. They can't possibly keep bloody garden centres open and close clinics, can they?!

LifeIsBusy · 02/11/2020 09:21

@BananaHammock23
I would hope that this time private clinics can stay open. I obviously understand the need to redeploy resource across the NHS which would then effect the ability for NHS fertility treatment centers to stay open.

If all else fails, move to Scotland.

@Tasha1607 I'm off to get back onto ASOS as I don't think I can get through my entire pregnancy on 2 pairs of leggins (I just sold my old maternity jeans as I couldn't stand them last pregnancy). Leggins all the way!

That sounds decent! I ended up just using the regular top from pri-mark as the feeding tops I had always ended up in some sort of display. My boob fell out of the top the day after I had him as I went out of the ward to the canteen to get food. A poor girl who I used to go to school with (who thankfully didn't recognize me) informed me of my mishap.

We also came back low risk :), one less thing to worry about. Hows your hips doing? I had to get my pregnancy pillow back out :(

LifeIsBusy · 02/11/2020 09:34

@ally99101 I personally wouldn't worry about it, the more you relax though the process the more likely it is to be successful. I think we focused a little too much on the scans as with the bloods you obviously don't get to see the results where as a camera having a look around kinda makes you feel like you're somewhat in control but realistically its your bloods that count.

I also tried the clear blue ovulation kits the month I fell pregnancy with DS.... I never got a smiley face even when the clinic told me it happened. I see that they're really popular with people TTC at home though.

Tasha1607 · 02/11/2020 09:34

@LifeIsBusy I think I'm going to have to look at ASOS. Oh Jesus! I am unsure if your recommending the tops from primark or not lol.

That's fantastic. Does your partner get to go to the appointment on Thursday? Mine can't she isn't allowed in. It's hitting home for her that's she missing out on so much. But it makes it all more adamant that we don't want to find out the sex

My hips are fine it is my back. I'm really struggling with sleeping on my side which is causing my wife to not sleep cause she making sure I'm not rolling onto my back in my sleep as well. I think I'm going to invest in the pillow that does between your knees to see if that helps

ally99101 · 02/11/2020 09:39

Thank you @LifeIsBusy that's actually really reassuring!!

LifeIsBusy · 02/11/2020 09:46

@Tasha1607 Oh sorry I didn't write it properly. I mean I got the really cheap vest tops from primark, the ones with the really thin straps. I personally found them the best for feeding in compared to my feeding tops.

The story I mention above comes from a feeding top, one that I don't think i ever worse out the house again Grin

Shes allowed in but Thursday is her non working day and therefore shes looking after DS. So whilst she can attend i'm not sure the small human can so shes going to give it a miss. We're thinking about recording it so she can listen in later though.

It is a shame that your wife is missing out on the appointments but hopefully she will be able there for the most important part - the birth. I hear all sorts of horror stories going on in hospitals that make me determined that I will be out of there as soon as physically possible. No epidural, no C-section, no sepsis... I actually only had the sepsis last time but i've covered all the basis that keep you in hospital. I am however well aware that babies have their own plan and its likely that I will need some form of stay.

I don't think you need to worry about sleeping on your back until 20+ weeks so you've got a couple of weeks to find a solution. The pregnancy pillow I have is doubled sided in a big U, so you could use that to lie on which will prop you up from lying directly on your back without having to lie completely on your hip?

LifeIsBusy · 02/11/2020 09:47

@Tasha1607 Also, your wife and you will be able to feel bubs moving in a few weeks (if not already) which will help her feel included. Esp when bubs gets a little bigger and your entire belly wobbles.

LifeIsBusy · 02/11/2020 09:49

@ally99101 If you want a little more comfort you could look into the strategies around boosting your chances? I fed my wife 1/5 of a pineapple for 5 days post IUI. Apparently its supposed to help....

Tasha1607 · 02/11/2020 09:54

@LifeIsBusy oh I gotcha now! That's cool. I did think when I tried the nursing top on like I'm glad there's a couple of layers because my boobs are just going to fall out the side of the tank top underneath.

Oh no! Well at least you've thought ahead of the appointment. I keep feeling little feels in my stomach and I'm like is it isn't it. I don't know but I'm hoping when the time comes I'll be at home with her so we can both experience it. But I think she'll freak with the belly wobbling lol.

I've got a U shaped pillow but I am adamant to roll onto my back no matter what. I am very much a back sleeper. I just want to get into the habit of sleeping on my side. I propped a pillow behind me this morning and that seemed to help. So fingers cross. How's the sickness? Has yours eased off ??

LifeIsBusy · 02/11/2020 10:09

@Tasha1607 Thats probably it, I mean in the early days you can only feel it internally and its not until later on you can feel proper little kicks until later on which you end up with full shifts.. I think thats what im missing to make this feel a little more real. At the minute I get little niggles but nothing compared to the end of pregnancy so i'm still convinced that nothings going on..

LOL then you are determined to sleep on your back! Perhaps in a few weeks you'll be too uncomfortable to sleep like that and you will be forced to move and sleep differently.

I generally sleep mostly on my front, perhaps in an angel 50/50 between my side and flat on my stomach so I find the move to my hips perhaps less frustrating but still uncomfortable. My wife isn't a fan of what we call hagrids trousers though. I mean they do take up a load of space but i'll take anything for comfort.

I would say its like gone but it appears if I don't eat.. I need to eat in 4 hour intervals during the day to feel normal. Anything outwith that results in me being cold, moody and feeling really ill. How about you?

Tasha1607 · 02/11/2020 10:14

@LifeIsBusy okay I'm hoping I am feeling something. It's mainly on my right side like I feel bubs likes it that side on the evening.

I may have to try that one. My wife has been kept awake cause I'm trying to get comfortable and then I'm trying to take up the whole bed. I've warned her it'll only get worst. LOL.

Hagrids??? You'll have to explain what they look like. Lol

I have on and off days - today is definitely an off day. I've ran out of tablets. I have really good days where I just graze all day. A lover of food so it is a good when that happens.

Any tips at all to help with it?

LifeIsBusy · 02/11/2020 10:25

@Tasha1607 Search '12 FT Long C_U Shaped Full Body Cuddly & Maternity Pregnancy, Back, Leg, Hip Support Pillow' on amazon and you'll find them. You'll see why she's not a fan but Hagrids trousers were my best friend then and is again now my hips have started to ache. I would suggest letting her know your priorities have changed and she may want to seek out alternative sleeping arrangements Grin. My wife sent me a voice recording of me snoring last night, I mean what is she hoping to achieve? I can't just not snore. Its not something I can control whilst fast asleep.

I have no helpful tips for the sickness, i've definitely struggled a lot more this time round than last time so I just try to force myself to keep eating regularly and keep a tub of yoghurt in the fridge for emergencies.

I mainly feel it on my left side, always in the same place and really close to my pubic bone which would all make sense as whilst my belly is huge bags isn't hanging around at my belly button. I reckon you're probably feeling the right thing and it will only get stronger. Have you got a date for your 20w scan yet? Curious to see if that's on the same day as well!

Tasha1607 · 02/11/2020 10:29

@LifeIsBusy I will get on that and have a look!
Oh no! To be fair my wife is the snorer son no problems of that. That's hilarious she sent you a voice recording of it though.

My 20w is 3/12/20.. that would be interesting to see if yours was the same.

No worries. Thank you for your help though

LifeIsBusy · 02/11/2020 13:17

@Tasha1607 mine is on the 4th I think... I will have to double check though as i've not seen the the letter since I got it and I was on my way out the door when I read it.

Perhaps you should send her a recording of her snoring?

LifeIsBusy · 05/11/2020 10:52

@Tasha1607 How was it? I only heard it for a brief second. The midwife was saying that with the additional restrictions in place partners are only allowed to the birth and not up to the ward afterwards. Last time I was kept in for 2 days for sepsis but I don't think I would want to be alone for those 2 days! Charging my tablet now and downloading books!

I mentioned that I could have a home birth but I shook that off rather quickly.

Tasha1607 · 05/11/2020 11:17

@LifeIsBusy mine was cancelled. I don't need to be seen until the 20 weeks scan. And then I'll see the midwife at 25 weeks. Very disappointed but can't do much with the lock down.

I'm now in isolation as test and trace has stated I've been in contact with someone who has tested positive. And I've been off work the last 4 days due to the sickness the doctor told me to go on 3 anti sickness a day now. But I'm so dizzy and nausea. I've got someone coming out to take my blood pressure and other checks.

Is everything okay with bubs? That is worrying I'm hoping by April we will be passed this. I don't think I could do any of it without my wife there x

LifeIsBusy · 05/11/2020 11:46

@Tasha1607 I'm sorry, its strange that there is such different guidance throughout the country on what is acceptable and what isn't for midwifery care. My midwife said they never stopped any appointments throughout pregnancy and lockdown last time but thats obviously not the case in England.

Im sorry about the isolation and the fact you feel awful! That must be sooo difficult, especially with all the additional restrictions that are in place. I wonder why you're still feeling so ill as usually it starts to subside!

Everything is fine, all the tessting came back normal... I def don't want to be in hospital without my wife. I will be a lonely experience.

Tasha1607 · 05/11/2020 11:49

@LifeIsBusy I have no idea. If I'm honest the doctors just say keep hydrated. I'm still waiting on results from my urine sample to make sure that's okay.

They've said to get a Covid test to be on the safe side so we are just waiting out on that. It is just rubbish time at the moment. I am thankful to be at home with the wife again. But I'd rather have energy.

That's good news about your bubs! I'm glad everything is okay.

LifeIsBusy · 05/11/2020 11:57

@Tasha1607 I get it, are you getting in regular naps? I suppose there isn't much else you can do apart from trying to eat/drink and try and distract yourself as much as possible. Pregnancy certainly isn't for the faint hearted that's for sure.

Tasha1607 · 05/11/2020 12:20

@LifeIsBusy I am indeed. And even getting enough sleep during the night. I've just had someone out to take obs I've got to wait to here back from the doc. They think it might be vertigo.

LifeIsBusy · 05/11/2020 12:29

@Tasha1607 Is that a side effect of pregnancy or do they think they're unrelated? I hear thats horrific though, my roommate at uni had it and he took ages to recover from it.
