TTC through Donor IUI or Donor IVF - weight loss spin-off thread

A few of us on the donor IUI/IVF thread have got some weight to lose, and rather than bore everyone else we thought we'd set up a spin-off thread. So, if you're doing or contemplating donor IUI/IVF and also have some weight to lose, join us here, newbies welcome.

I guess we do introductions/goals? I'll start, but obviously share whatever you prefer in your intro.

I'm witch, froze some embryos last year with donor sperm which are waiting for me to save up enough to fund a career change post baby. I'm fortunate in that I don't have loads and loads of weight to lose, but enough that I could so with some supportive friends to do it with.

I don't really like the idea of dieting per se, I think my aim is more around establishing a healthier relationship with food. I read Fat is a Feminist Issue years ago and I probably need to re-read it again now - it's about women's relationship with food. I'd recommend it, or a much condensed book by the same author, Susie Orbach, called On Eating.

My weight has fluctuated over the years, but the band it's fluctuating within is only trending in one direction. This is almost the heaviest I've ever been, I'm too fat for my fat clothes, and my thighs are getting in the way of each other. In BMI terms I'm a little way into the overweight category, but I carry it all on my stomach so I'm quite a way over the recommended maximum waist measurement. I have been offered a seat on the tube and on one occasion asked if it was my first baby Grin

The numbers aren't the be all and end all - for me that point is that I am at this weight because I don't prioritise sleep and activity and compensate with carbs and caffeine! And for some other more psychological reasons which I'll get to, but this is already the longest intro in history.

I'm going to take Saturday as my starting point:
5'9"/1.75m
12st10.5lb/81kg
BMI 26.4
Waist 36"/91cm
Targets, let's see, but I'm guessing somewhere south of 11st/70kg - I'll head in that direction and see how I feel. I'll never be right at the bottom end of the BMI range, I'm broad!

Eating wise - I'm cutting back on high glycemic index carbs and trying to get some more protein in. I know I feel better and less hungry when I'm not struggling from one sugar rush then crash to the next.

kwick · 04/07/2017 07:44

Well done ever!

I think the hormones can have that effect Pickle - don't let it get you down - they are for a good reason!!!

pickle162 · 04/07/2017 08:25

I need to get my head in the came-feeling like an oompah loompa at the mo. Just can't be arsed. House is in a state too, oh well will focus on that when get a mo

juneybean · 04/07/2017 15:14

Ahh pickle I know that feeling. We had a working lunch at work today so have had the most fattening lasagne in the world! Feeling annoyed now.

pickle162 · 04/07/2017 19:24

I just made the mistake of looking in the mirror before I got in the bath 😱look bloody awful and everything feels tight.
Will need to do some menu planning and get my butt into gear

Everhopeful76 · 04/07/2017 19:46

OmgPickle this is such a big mistake haha. Wouldn't even have done that when I was a skinny Minnie!!! Damn these fertility drugs!! And comfort eating!! x

Bear1980 · 05/07/2017 21:04

Well started SW tonight so operation lose weight starts now. Seems like a really fun group so think that will really help. Here we go

pickle162 · 05/07/2017 21:34

Well done bear and glad it's a good group :)

kwick · 06/07/2017 07:52

Great news bear!! I find being part of a group very helpful. This week I had a good old bitching session with 2 other members about the consultant Grin

Bear1980 · 06/07/2017 17:12

Haha kwick, I decided that I am going to stay for group because I think thats why I have ended up quitting in the past. My aim is to lose 10% before my next IUI. Cooncidentally that should take me just under a bmi of 35

pickle162 · 06/07/2017 22:07

pickle162 · 07/07/2017 19:19

Hehe juney yes pizza isn't going to help.

I'm out for next couple of days, more bad food. Clothes feel so uncomfortable atm!

kwick · 08/07/2017 07:15

I love Kermy pickle!!! How did you know?

I had a bad food day yesterday - started ok with a scrambled egg and toast for brekki, even had some fruit when I arrived at destination early (Maastricht) then went progressively downhill:
Gazpacho - fine
Cucumber soup - who knows what was in that?
3 different sandwich things laden with cheese and mayo
Apple pie!!!!!
Sugar coated nuts!!!
Egg and tomato and salad cream sarnie
Large packet of salt & vinegar twists
Would have had an iced bun but M&S had none!!!!

Have to really watch it now until bext weigh in as the above happened as I was away and travelling - next trip Monday...
At least I am being good by going to a swim now.

pickle162 · 08/07/2017 10:19

I thought kermie summed it up perfectly :)

pickle162 · 08/07/2017 10:21

Jump back on the sw band wagon and hopefully you'll still have a good weight loss

My stomach is still like a washing machine 🤢
Heading off to support counselling in a mo

Everhopeful76 · 08/07/2017 11:19

Hello ladies xxxx

kwik I love m&s egg and salad cream sarnies. They are the best ones!!! Ahhhhh

And pizza yum yum bear

Love Kermy frog!!

I ve been hit and miss, been triggered all over place with friend pregnancy news ( her baby is due around my birthday) in 3 weeks and have only just found out!!! So not only has she been terrible support with my grief, she's also omitted to tell me her news of almost a whole pregnancy!!

I think I will have maintained weight if lucky

I had eggy bread with a bit of maple syrup, creme fraiche with vanilla pod and strawberries. Almost sw friendly!! Would b nicer with mascarpone and brown sugar in toast and grated white chocolate tho

Lots of love on a sunny w e xx

kwick · 09/07/2017 16:02

ever I am sorry you have found put about your friend so late... I would be extremely upset. Maybe she just did not know how to tell you/did not want to upset you?

I am loving the Kermy photos pickle

Just stuffed my face with a relatively SW friendly meal - baked eggs in a tomatoe sauce with cottage cheese and a spinach salad. we will not mention that everyone else had cheddar cheese and Foccacia and I polished off my nephew's leftovers

Bear1980 · 10/07/2017 17:22

So far so good on Slimming World, not too different to what I was eating anyway but just more concious of writing down treats. Will see if it shows on the scales on Wednesday 😬

Everhopeful76 · 10/07/2017 20:29

I weighed in a day early (yesterday) and actually this was my original start date so not really early at all
So this last week was 3.5lbs which means just 2.5 till the stone mark. Mostly been quite strict with the plan, and if I gone over did pull it back the following day. Am finding that I need to eat all my syns for a bigger weight loss, so tomorrow am mtg a friend for a curry!!!
Well researched, it ll be lamb rogan josh or chicken dhansak, with boiled rice and 2 poppadums with dips. Think I ve calculated it as around 15 syns!! Give or take!!
Well done Bear - it is quite straight forward, its really working for me but I admit to missing bread mostly and cake occasionally.
Yes Kwik my friend has been appalling. How did your weigh in go? Or.. I think you re away so perhaps you re not doing this week?
