TTC through Donor IUI or Donor IVF - weight loss spin-off thread

A few of us on the donor IUI/IVF thread have got some weight to lose, and rather than bore everyone else we thought we'd set up a spin-off thread. So, if you're doing or contemplating donor IUI/IVF and also have some weight to lose, join us here, newbies welcome.

I guess we do introductions/goals? I'll start, but obviously share whatever you prefer in your intro.

I'm witch, froze some embryos last year with donor sperm which are waiting for me to save up enough to fund a career change post baby. I'm fortunate in that I don't have loads and loads of weight to lose, but enough that I could so with some supportive friends to do it with.

I don't really like the idea of dieting per se, I think my aim is more around establishing a healthier relationship with food. I read Fat is a Feminist Issue years ago and I probably need to re-read it again now - it's about women's relationship with food. I'd recommend it, or a much condensed book by the same author, Susie Orbach, called On Eating.

My weight has fluctuated over the years, but the band it's fluctuating within is only trending in one direction. This is almost the heaviest I've ever been, I'm too fat for my fat clothes, and my thighs are getting in the way of each other. In BMI terms I'm a little way into the overweight category, but I carry it all on my stomach so I'm quite a way over the recommended maximum waist measurement. I have been offered a seat on the tube and on one occasion asked if it was my first baby Grin

The numbers aren't the be all and end all - for me that point is that I am at this weight because I don't prioritise sleep and activity and compensate with carbs and caffeine! And for some other more psychological reasons which I'll get to, but this is already the longest intro in history.

I'm going to take Saturday as my starting point:
5'9"/1.75m
12st10.5lb/81kg
BMI 26.4
Waist 36"/91cm
Targets, let's see, but I'm guessing somewhere south of 11st/70kg - I'll head in that direction and see how I feel. I'll never be right at the bottom end of the BMI range, I'm broad!

Eating wise - I'm cutting back on high glycemic index carbs and trying to get some more protein in. I know I feel better and less hungry when I'm not struggling from one sugar rush then crash to the next.

Great progress Ever!!!! I have my weigh-in tonight... despite having a great week AF arriving on Saturday and Yo Sushi for lunch seems to have put everything out of whack 😭

I agree that SW is loads easier when you have complete cooking control.

Everhopeful76 · 26/06/2017 10:43

Sushi will be ok kwik, it really will only be the bit of sugar that binds the rice. It's very yum too.
AF will just mean if weight is much the same you should get more weight loss next. Lately I ve found in my case that that doesn't make much difference, maybe 1-2 lbs retention for 2 days or so and then disappears again x

juneybean · 26/06/2017 14:11

I stayed the same last week and had chinese on Saturday night...oops! But will see how well I can do before my Friday weigh-in! I do calorie counting, it's the only thing I can do... I really want to follow the idea of slimming world but when I see a bowl of pasta I can only think of the amount of calories in it!

kwick · 26/06/2017 18:10

Ever I did not have any rice but did have Teriyaki chicken and the pumpkin fritters as well as some salmon sashimi (which should be fine) & endamame beans (ditto).

Not feeling great right now - hunger, back ache and period pain all mixed together I think! Anyway I am on my way to my SW group.

Juney I have no idea how SW works, just that it does if you stick to plan. Thank God pasta is included!!!!

Everhopeful76 · 26/06/2017 18:33

That ll be ok, just the batter on the fritters? If no rice you ll b grand. Also teriyaki chicken you can have as part of a subway salad which I appear to be munching into at least 3 times per week. I think you ll be fine on food front, not so sure on AF front!! Let us know x

pickle162 · 26/06/2017 18:59

I have lost the plot on the diet front😫 just going to head to Aldi now so I can try and get some stuff for proper dinners

kwick · 26/06/2017 20:01

I put half a pound on... I just don't get it - I was doing so well until Saturday. I don't feel very well - middle back pain, coccyx pain, stomach pain and period pain. I have not stayed for the group talk - just want to get home, i to my jimjams and have an early night.

Everhopeful76 · 26/06/2017 20:32

Awww get well soon kwik. Half pound is nothing and am sure will be water retention. Few days time you ll see a loss. Rest up x

So i've decided I am going to join Slimming World as it seems to be working for most people. I have a couple of birthday meals out this week but I figure as long as I exercise and am good for the rest of the week then it should be ok. Also think it will keep me accountable when i am on holiday

Everhopeful76 · 28/06/2017 10:07

bear you could make this trial slimming world week. I did that first week, wasn't following properly and still lost a couple of pounds, the first proper week I lost 3 lbs- then discovered scales had been penny pinching. I actually lost 5. So around half a stone in 2 weeks.
I d been loosely following a plant based diet before that but was finding although weight trending in right direction. I was losing a couple of pounds and then gaining 1.
Slimming world seems to be giving me consistency in loss... and you can still have small chocolate treats. Working well for me at moment. Good luck xx

Bear1980 · 28/06/2017 19:48

Looks like I'll be doing that ever, went to slimming world but the class was cancelled because there was a primary school leavers disco on 😂😂😂. Will just monitor what I'm eating and start for real next week. I have been sticking to eating mainly meat and veg but found I was doing good for a couple of weeks and then going off it. Overall losing weight but really slowly.

kwick · 29/06/2017 07:53

Gosh if my SW group was cancelled Bear there would be a mutiny!!!
I was very naughty yesterday - had a Big Mac and Fries and Sweet and Sour sauce 🍔🍟
Could not really taste it so it was a bit of a waste... also bought a new "outfit" in Primark - pair of black trousers (£7!!!) and a shirt (£10) - none of my black trousers for work fit anymore (too big) so whilst these are still a size 20 they are stretchy so I guess they will shrink with me? Confused

Anyone hope everyone is being good and having the weight drop off!

Bear1980 · 29/06/2017 07:58

Haha kwick I assume that they had announced it the previous week cause the only person who showed up was someone who hadn't been for 3 weeks 😂

I wm sure 1 Mcdonalds won't hurt and must feel good to have to buy smaller clothes, I am looking forward to that

kwick · 30/06/2017 08:22

How is it possible to lose 3 lbs over night? Is that just the weight of lunch inpacting things? Bloody hope I keep it off this time!!!

juneybean · 30/06/2017 09:08

Well done kwick, don't get weighed at night!! You're full of food and things!!

I lost 2lbs this week!

Bear1980 · 30/06/2017 13:26

I usually weigh 1 or 2 pounds lighter in the morning I think just cause you're generally not taking fluid in through the night.

Whats your total loss now kwick, must be quite a bit all added up?

kwick · 30/06/2017 18:07

Well done juney!

My SW weigh in is at 7.30pm on a Monday...

Let me check...

kwick · 30/06/2017 18:09

Okay so I need to lose 2.5 lbs and then I will have lost my first stone!!! Only about 5 more to go!! But probably only another 1 before I can start TTC again.

pickle162 · 30/06/2017 18:43

Good weight loss everyone :) yay kwick, keep going you are doing fab

Bear1980 · 30/06/2017 20:57

juneybean · 02/07/2017 13:13

oh god have had such a bad weekend with food.... I'll be lucky to stay the same next Friday.

Everhopeful76 · 02/07/2017 13:54

God, me too. Think I ve done enough to stay the same but the day after weigh in last min I suddenly dropped another 3lbs so it ll either have stayed at that, I gained 1 and that's what it's been ever since. So maybe should just change right day to tues Grin

Everhopeful76 · 02/07/2017 13:55

Oh dear, teaming with typos. Should say Monday!!! And weight day xx

kwick · 03/07/2017 21:02

juneybean · 03/07/2017 21:06
