TTC through Donor IUI or Donor IVF - weight loss spin-off thread

A few of us on the donor IUI/IVF thread have got some weight to lose, and rather than bore everyone else we thought we'd set up a spin-off thread. So, if you're doing or contemplating donor IUI/IVF and also have some weight to lose, join us here, newbies welcome.

I guess we do introductions/goals? I'll start, but obviously share whatever you prefer in your intro.

I'm witch, froze some embryos last year with donor sperm which are waiting for me to save up enough to fund a career change post baby. I'm fortunate in that I don't have loads and loads of weight to lose, but enough that I could so with some supportive friends to do it with.

I don't really like the idea of dieting per se, I think my aim is more around establishing a healthier relationship with food. I read Fat is a Feminist Issue years ago and I probably need to re-read it again now - it's about women's relationship with food. I'd recommend it, or a much condensed book by the same author, Susie Orbach, called On Eating.

My weight has fluctuated over the years, but the band it's fluctuating within is only trending in one direction. This is almost the heaviest I've ever been, I'm too fat for my fat clothes, and my thighs are getting in the way of each other. In BMI terms I'm a little way into the overweight category, but I carry it all on my stomach so I'm quite a way over the recommended maximum waist measurement. I have been offered a seat on the tube and on one occasion asked if it was my first baby Grin

The numbers aren't the be all and end all - for me that point is that I am at this weight because I don't prioritise sleep and activity and compensate with carbs and caffeine! And for some other more psychological reasons which I'll get to, but this is already the longest intro in history.

I'm going to take Saturday as my starting point:
5'9"/1.75m
12st10.5lb/81kg
BMI 26.4
Waist 36"/91cm
Targets, let's see, but I'm guessing somewhere south of 11st/70kg - I'll head in that direction and see how I feel. I'll never be right at the bottom end of the BMI range, I'm broad!

Eating wise - I'm cutting back on high glycemic index carbs and trying to get some more protein in. I know I feel better and less hungry when I'm not struggling from one sugar rush then crash to the next.

Well I cannot avoid the yogurt but yesterday just had fruit (and a bite of a donut) for lunch and no pudding for dinner.
I spent lots of time in the sea with my nephew so hopefully burned a lot of calories off...

Angliski · 06/08/2017 09:31

One stone down in four weeks - cannot recommend blood sugar diet enough. Even if stupid af came today and third iui is bfn

kwick · 06/08/2017 14:48

@Angliski Flowers well done on weightloss though.

I have not been having a good food day - donut for brekkie, candied kumquats and honeyed nuts on a pit stop...and now apparently we are having cake... oh well I am on holiday Hmm

Everhopeful76 · 06/08/2017 15:10

So sorry angliski. But great weight loss. I lost a bit on the sugar free diet but then plateaued, not as much as a stone tho so that's fantastic.

I ve gained 3 lbs kwik since my birthday 10 days ago. Getting back on it today. Just done 30 lengths swim of a lido at speed, ruddy knackered now. You are on holiday, it's kind of expected re weight gain. Up the exercise a bit and just start again tomorrow.xxx

Bear1980 · 10/08/2017 06:50

So first weigh-in since my holiday and the damage was...2 pounds. I am happy with that because while I tried to be sensible most of the time I did allow muself the occasiona treat and drank alcohol every day. Been back on it since Sunday so hoping to lose maybes 3 or 3.5 next week

kwick · 11/08/2017 05:32

I would take 2lbs Bear I think mine is going to be more like 7lb!!!Shock well flying back tomorrow so will know soon enough!

kwick · 16/08/2017 08:17

Am back to pre-holiday weight!!!! Now just need to keep this up for next few weeks so I can finally start treatment again!

Bear1980 · 16/08/2017 17:14

Back to pre-holiday weight so soon is great kwick. I will find out tonight but haven't been great this week so not expecting much.

You are so close to your goal fingers crossed ypu reach it quickly

Everhopeful76 · 17/08/2017 10:14

Hey guys, I put on 7 lbs in 2.5 weeks, but a bout of mild food poisoning has halved the damage and am hoping I can get to my pre stress related weight in the next week or so, and then a bit more till I start treatment. My BMI had been around 33 so ideally wanted it to be down to under 32- 32.5, if only I hadn't pissed about. Ah well, back on it now x

kwick · 20/08/2017 20:17

Was so good all week and then went wild yesterday and today... tomorrow's weigh in ain't gonna be pretty 😔

Everhopeful76 · 20/08/2017 20:46

What were your wild snacks and beverages kwik???

kwick · 21/08/2017 18:06

We had lunch out on Saturday- I had lots of Foccacia and pasta (and finished nephews pasta) and dessert.

Then for dinner I had 2 Nobbly Bobbly lollies...

Then yesterday had lunch at Auntie and Unc's - cheese laden risotto and then 4 different desserts:
Homemade creme caramel 🍮
Homemade Cafloutis
Homemade raspberry ice cream
Homemade meringue

😬

kwick · 21/08/2017 19:23

Lost 1.5 lbs - and then had a barney with SW consultant over food diary!!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!

kwick · 27/08/2017 18:27

Oh dear... yummy meal yesterday and an amazeballs breakfast today seem to have scuppered my weightloss plans for this week 😢

Bear1980 · 27/08/2017 20:48

I was really bad all last week kwick I think sometimes we need a couple of off days to get back on track.

kwick · 28/08/2017 07:38

Well it is almost-nil-by-mouth today before my weigh in!

kwick · 28/08/2017 21:38

A pound and a half off - good but not great... those pancakes, bacon and maple syrup did not help!

Bear1980 · 29/08/2017 07:10

Still a loss though kwick any move in the right direction is a good move 😀

kwick · 29/08/2017 08:07

You are right bear and once again post weigh-in day I have had a significant loss overnight... I really hope that I do not gain it back through the week!

Bear1980 · 30/08/2017 18:36

Weigh-in for me tonight, no idea what is gonna happen

kwick · 31/08/2017 08:42

How did it go bear?

Bear1980 · 31/08/2017 11:09

1lb lost which I am happy with because I think I probably put on last week (didn't weigh-in) and af is here which tends to make me heavier. Have set a target of 3pounds for this week so lets see how close I get 😀

Kateandcaz · 01/09/2017 12:56

Hi all, I am looking to loose weight before trying home insemination with donor sperm, obviously there is a big cost involved so I want to do everything possible to increase our chances. I started doing slimming world from home 6 weeks ago and have lost a stone so far, its the best diet I have tried and definitely not hard to follow! I am 15stone 7 lbs currently have a end goal of 13 stone or bmi of 25 so a little way to go yet but have 3 months before we start trying. Would love some guidance and encouragement, anyone else also doing home insemination?

kwick · 01/09/2017 17:25

Wow!!! Well done kate!!! That is grrt progress especially as you are not going to group!!

I am not sure if any of us on here are doing home insemination - mostly IUI/IVF.

Well done bear hope you get your 3 lbs this week!!!

Bear1980 · 01/09/2017 19:53
