TTC through Donor IUI or Donor IVF - weight loss spin-off thread

A few of us on the donor IUI/IVF thread have got some weight to lose, and rather than bore everyone else we thought we'd set up a spin-off thread. So, if you're doing or contemplating donor IUI/IVF and also have some weight to lose, join us here, newbies welcome.

I guess we do introductions/goals? I'll start, but obviously share whatever you prefer in your intro.

I'm witch, froze some embryos last year with donor sperm which are waiting for me to save up enough to fund a career change post baby. I'm fortunate in that I don't have loads and loads of weight to lose, but enough that I could so with some supportive friends to do it with.

I don't really like the idea of dieting per se, I think my aim is more around establishing a healthier relationship with food. I read Fat is a Feminist Issue years ago and I probably need to re-read it again now - it's about women's relationship with food. I'd recommend it, or a much condensed book by the same author, Susie Orbach, called On Eating.

My weight has fluctuated over the years, but the band it's fluctuating within is only trending in one direction. This is almost the heaviest I've ever been, I'm too fat for my fat clothes, and my thighs are getting in the way of each other. In BMI terms I'm a little way into the overweight category, but I carry it all on my stomach so I'm quite a way over the recommended maximum waist measurement. I have been offered a seat on the tube and on one occasion asked if it was my first baby Grin

The numbers aren't the be all and end all - for me that point is that I am at this weight because I don't prioritise sleep and activity and compensate with carbs and caffeine! And for some other more psychological reasons which I'll get to, but this is already the longest intro in history.

I'm going to take Saturday as my starting point:
5'9"/1.75m
12st10.5lb/81kg
BMI 26.4
Waist 36"/91cm
Targets, let's see, but I'm guessing somewhere south of 11st/70kg - I'll head in that direction and see how I feel. I'll never be right at the bottom end of the BMI range, I'm broad!

Eating wise - I'm cutting back on high glycemic index carbs and trying to get some more protein in. I know I feel better and less hungry when I'm not struggling from one sugar rush then crash to the next.

kwick · 16/07/2017 18:00

I hear you Pickle I feel so different this summer amd am enjoying the nice weather SO much - never want it to end! But then I do as that should mean I can start treatment again...,

So have definitely had all of my syns today - what with a slice of lemon drizzle cake and 2 biscotti Blush
Really hope I am ok for weigh in tomorrow....

Bear1980 · 17/07/2017 09:27

Went to TGI Fridays on Saturday night 😖 intended to be good but couldn't resist. Was good the rest of the weekend though so hoping it won't be too damaging

Everhopeful76 · 17/07/2017 14:23

Afternoon ladies
So I ve weighed myself but with being on period and eating a couple of scones, its registering a pound or so gain. However I did weigh after eaten a big breakfast as well. Had decided to wait till tomorrow so may re-do tomorrow on an empty stomach and hopefully reduction in water retention by then
Instead I decided to see if have lost inches and this has been quite a surprising result. Have 2 inches off bust, 3 off waist in 5 weeks ish (this one is now 4.5 inches off the recommended waist measurement, without health problems being more of a risk so am quite happy with that one. Didn't measure hips because usually off scale measurement (ha)and also because I never quite know if have measured right. I know my thighs have reduced but same applies on the measurement. I can tell trousers, leggings etc are far looser, and weight has disappeared from muffin top and round my back, hence reduced bust measurement. All over weight looks like a dress size difference but it isn't because my measurements are not even to size
Just feel am going to end up with thin limbs and still a humongous belly (Mabels former home)
Gotta be much more disciplined this week in order to get that stone marker!! But have also lost my appetite so got to make sure I eat enough!!
x

I lost 1.5 lbs and now have a 36.7 BMI - on target for September I think.

Everhopeful76 · 18/07/2017 22:36

Am on bmi 33 or just under so am nearly at point I had ivf for Mabel. Just 6 lbs to shed which hopefully is achievable in a few weeks or so. Good enough and if I fall pregnant I ll just b monitoring carefully my food intake and hope I don't go sugar monster!! X

Weigh-in tonight, lost another 3.5 pounds which I am super happy about. Need to try and keep on track on holiday now. Even if I can maintain while I am away i'll be happy.

pickle162 · 19/07/2017 22:06

Well done bear fab progress x

kwick · 20/07/2017 07:54

Excellent Bear!!! Well done!!!

I weigh myself each morning (cos I am naughty) - no weightloss overnight... feel like the pre-AF water retention may have started....

Bear1980 · 20/07/2017 18:46

I am trying to avoid that keick because it is what I normally do. Out for lunch today and ate far too much. No tea to compensate 😖

kwick · 21/07/2017 08:08

Lost a bit of weight overnight so maybe retention has not started?
My mum made apple strudel yesterday... had two slices 😔

kwick · 25/07/2017 19:09

Flipping AF - half a pound on 😡😡😡

Had a major blow-out yesterday and have a sugar hangover... probably put back on everything I have lost 😩

Bear1980 · 25/07/2017 21:50

AF time is sooooo annoying I always put weight on. I am trying to be good on my hols and not doing too badly so far. Definitely going over on my syncs but mostly making healthy choices. Still having a wee wine in the evening though.

Angliski · 26/07/2017 23:45

Twelve pounds off in theee weeks! Blood sugar diet works a treat - I fast for 18 hours then eat 800 calls in six hour window - no grains carbs sugar etc- actually quite enjoying it - once the sugar is out of you it's much easier - plus NHS said if I can lose another five kilos before my birthday in six weeks they will refer me for ivf!!

kwick · 27/07/2017 17:54

Wow @Angliski amazeballs!!! Well done!

Angliski · 28/07/2017 12:33

Thanks kwick happy days - but I have stayed the same this week- I have 34 days to lose five kilos but I lost 4 in twenty one so I have to stay positive. I am also in two week wait at the mo so Sod's law will be I don't need the funding!!! I really recommend the fast 800 and theses an excellent inspiring forum on the website too. X

kwick · 31/07/2017 15:35

Weighed myself this morning and was nearly at 15 stone... weighed myself again later and have gained nearly 4 pounds... WTAF????

kwick · 31/07/2017 19:55

pickle162 · 01/08/2017 01:59
