This thread is for anyone trying to conceive... or thinking about doing so through donor IUI or donor IVF. Nothing TMI - feel free to join, we are a lovely group here to support and help keep the cray-cray away!

Hi all (sorry I'm late to the new thread party Grin) and welcome Bear

My info:

I'm 31; my DP is 33. She is the one who is actually having the treatment - I had uterine cancer in 2014 so have had a hysterectomy.
So far, we have had:

IUI #1: BFN
IUI #2: BFN
IUI #3: BFP; scan at 7 weeks revealed ectopic pregnancy Sad
IUI #4: BFN
IUI #5: BFN
IUI #6: BFN

DP has no problems that anyone can identify (v. good ovarian reserve, hormone levels are all normal, regular cycle, usually has 2 mature follicles, very thick endometrium each time etc) but IUI just hasn't worked out for us.

We have been using Create in London up until now, but we're changing to the Oxford Fertility Unit. Partly because we've become disillusioned and disappointed, and partly because it's close to home for us and we're going to have IVF now. IUI is starting to feel like throwing good money after bad; we just want to throw everything at it and actually get that precious BFP.

We're currently on a short break - waiting for Create to send us our full notes for the new clinic (don't want to pay to repeat tests, when we have had so many done already, and also feel that new clinic will be able to support us better if they can see all scan and blood results etc). We're also getting the money organised Grin Hopefully we'll be having our first try at IVF in April or May.

Snorkmaiden85 · 25/02/2017 09:35

Oh miri I'm not surprised you feel disillusioned, that must be so frustrating! Really hope a new start with a new clinic and IVF brings positive results for you both. Roll on April/May.... seems like it's going to be a significant time for a lot of us!

Snorkmaiden85 · 25/02/2017 09:39

witch a second go at childhood sounds great! So glad it's been helpful for you. I think any significant change DOES take a long time/lots of work, that's why I'm a bit sceptical of 6 week CBT courses!

INeedNewShoes · 25/02/2017 10:24

Hello Bear Smile Welcome to the thread! Sorry I missed your arrival yesterday; I was too busy taking advantage of Pez's free mortgage advice Blush

Miri - sounds like a good plan and I imagine it'll be a relief for you to be going to a clinic closer to home rather than traipsing into London.

pickle162 · 25/02/2017 10:53

bear I'm in a similar situation-my clinic should take me between 45-1hr which is done is non peak times, peak time 2hr+ so makes leaving work for appointments MUCH more difficult but I'm sure we'll all make it work (trying to have pma!)
Just been shopping and brought lots of healthy stuff so I can try and lose weight before start trying in May....

miri glad you've found a new clinic, new start and hopefully lots of positive steps :)

Snorkmaiden85 · 25/02/2017 11:22

Same here, Bear and Pickle! Although the clinic is only about 5 miles away from work I'm reliant on public transport (notoriously crap in Bristol) so it'll take a fair while, haven't quite worked out the logistics yet but sure it'll all be OK! Might just end up getting a taxi, in my mind taxis are an expensive luxury, but it pales into insignificance compared to the treatment costs!

StorkAhoy · 25/02/2017 11:28

Morning all!

Wow you've been busy! I was binge watching Broadchurch season 1 last night and everything went by the way side!

I'm Stork, 38, under Care Fertility in Northampton.
Failed IVF transfer in November last year, about to embark on second IVF in March.

Thanks for all the well wishes, I'm perfectly fine, have been since yesterday morning. Hot water bottle and paracetamol did the trick!

Now however, I'm in a bit of quandary, I'm having brown discharge, not lots, but a little and it's really hard to differentiate between bleeding from the endometrial scratch and the beginning of my period, and it's kind of crucial that I know the difference and have to start drugs on day 2 of period!

So here I am pondering discharge... what a fun Saturday morning!

Best to all!

INeedNewShoes · 25/02/2017 11:36

Stork - I'm pretty sure that until its red it wouldn't be classed as the first day of your period. Brown blood is old blood that is being shed rather than fresh blood from a new period.

My GP and the clinic that did my hycosy told me to count day 1 as the first day of proper red bleeding.

Snork - I took the attitude re money and fertility treatment that once I was paying £1000 for my IUI (including flights/hotels as I was going to Denmark) that it made sense to pay £10 more to park in the nearest carpark to the airport terminal because a little more money spent to make life easier and put myself in the best possible mindset for conceiving seemed worthwhile. Get the taxi!

Pez82 · 25/02/2017 12:32

I find that anything below £100 at the moment is a bargain 😁

pickle162 · 25/02/2017 12:37

Sad don't seem to have had LH surge this month, feint line for last 5days but really feint. I've been CD14 every month and now nada....it's not even like I'm worrying about LH surges as meds will do it for me but still wanted to track. I'm doing temp this month as well so hopefully that'll be reacting how it should be and I've somehow missed it or it didn't happen Confused

MiriAmmerman · 25/02/2017 12:43

Stork DP and I had this conversation with a fertility nurse before our first IUI cycle, because DP normally spots for a couple of days at the start of AF. Fertility nurse assured us that only "red flow" counts as your period. So what you're having today isn't it (unless you start getting red, fresh bleeding later, in which case that would make today day 1). HTH Grin

INeedNewShoes · 25/02/2017 13:16

Pickle - are you CD14 now? Just keep testing. You're unlikely to have missed it and it may well have just shifted by a few days. Whenever I thought I must have missed it a positive line would eventually appear. Hang in there!

pickle162 · 25/02/2017 13:19

Cd16 now :(

INeedNewShoes · 25/02/2017 13:35

Seriously - too soon to worry. Just keep testing Pickle

This is why its good that you're so on top of all this and started testing well in advance of starting treatment. You'll be a pro by the time you get to May!

Pez82 · 25/02/2017 13:46

No temp shift either Pickle? It could just be some supplement you starting taking that is delaying O or just a longer cycle this month. Do what shoes says and keep testing!

pickle162 · 25/02/2017 14:05

This is since I started testing end of January

I can't help with the temperature monitoring as its not something I've done.

I vaguely recall hearing that Pregnacare has been found to delay ovulation for some women. Have you started taking anything new?

Karendvm · 25/02/2017 14:29

Just keep testing pickle. It will come. I hate testing for the surge! But it will happen, so just keeping peeing on sticks.

stork I'm am happy to hear you are feeling better. I second the bright red flow, that's the first day. Once I started counting from that day my cycles made more sense.

snork definitely take a taxi! It will take the stress of relying on public transportation out of the equation!

It does sound like May is going to be a overly exciting time for this thread!

kwick how are things?

StorkAhoy · 25/02/2017 14:37

Thanks ladies, I'm now on pinky brown.... but shall wait for red flow to come to town. I'm on day 27 so we shall see.

On the other hand, bloody hell in a hand basket, round 2 is about to kick off!

I'm sitting here with my zita west ivf book making a sure fire plan of action for the mind, body and soul.

In other news I'm now mid season 2 broadchurch, gosh its great.

pickle honey, the illusive oh surge was my nemesis. Good luck. Xx

StorkAhoy · 25/02/2017 14:39

Oh? Predictive correction from LH!

pickle162 · 25/02/2017 14:44

Nope been on vit d and folic acid for about 70 days but didn't buy pregnacare because of what people had mentioned on here.oh well can't do anything to change it can I 😫

Good luck stork xx

INeedNewShoes · 25/02/2017 14:45

Grin quite a few of us here have experienced the elusive OH search which is what has led to us being on this thread and experiencing the illusive LH surge.

Pez82 · 25/02/2017 14:51

Are you always testing at the same time Pickle and as soon as you wake up?
You had a dip yesterday which could be ovulation. It can take up to 48h after O for your bbt to shoot back up so if tomorrow your temp is around 36.6-36.7 (looking at your average luteal phase temp of last month) it will confirm you have ovulated. If not, keep testing Grin

I've attached one of my 'text book' charts (from before I started IUIs because since then it's a bit all over the place). I normally get a opk+ and then O the next day and temp rises the day after

Pez82 · 25/02/2017 14:54

I meant always temping, not testing!

Karendvm · 25/02/2017 15:34

Haha shoes. That was cute. Smile
