Not taking kids on holiday

Has anyone decided not to take their children on holiday as a single parent? Even more so with the recent tragedy in the news about the two young children on holiday it’s just kind of confirmed it even more to me that it’s a bad idea and I don’t feel id be able to safely watch them on my own. (I know they weren’t single parents but still) how do you get over not going on holiday again? It’s already been 15 Years since I last went abroad and the uk is definitely not the same (sorry)

Beyond swimming pools and coasts abroad OP, what are the other dangers that are stopping you?

YouLoveberries · 10/08/2025 12:41

Well another news story about an 11 year old girl dying in a Spanish pool yesterday so let’s no act like that isn’t a concern,

I used to go abroad on holiday with mine when I was a single mum but I'd always go with my cousin, she was great fun and it meant I didn't have to go alone. I certainly wouldn't have gone on my own.

Thank you! Seems to some on here I’m some kind of freak for not wanting to go alone! Sadly no family member that could tag along

This is very strange OP

there was a news report two days about about a 10 year old girl drowning. In the UK

Roothewheel · 10/08/2025 13:27

Aside from pools and the coasts abroad op, what other dangers concern you?

what types of holidays do you enjoy in the Uk?

A 4 year old girl tragically drowned not far from me the other day. Water can be dangerous no matter where you are. OP still hasn’t said what other dangers she perceives are abroad.

I know, despite being asked multiple times

and I’m also curious what types of hol in the UK the Op goes on

YouLoveberries · 10/08/2025 14:14

Yeah course but we don't go to pools here as we don't meet the safe ratio for them so even pools acknowledge single parents taking multiple kids into a pool isn't safe. So that's not a risk to us here, on holiday it would be. Anyway looks like it's not just me that doesn't feel confident with it so that's good to know.

OP posts:
Roothewheel · 10/08/2025 14:17

And still not a single “danger” clarified aside from water abroad

What are you confirming when you say “yeah of course”

YouLoveberries · 10/08/2025 14:18

Believe it or not I don't have to answer to you, Im not sure why you are so invested in a strangers life that you keep coming back to this thread multiple times a day questioning me, others have said they don't take their kids abroad so it isn't just me, I can't see anywhere where I said I take them on holiday in the uk just that it isn't the same due to the crap weather and not being able to predict if it will actually be nice.

Plenty of people go on child free holidays. My parents did and I stayed with grandparents, and over the last 5 years most of my friends with kids have has at least one child free holiday.

Do you start a thread about the “dangers” abroad stopping you from taking your kids abroad

but don’t want to clarify said dangers

odd

this Op is about not taking children abroad whether ND or NT due to the “dangers” in foreign countries

Was that why your parents went on a child free holiday?

YouLoveberries · 10/08/2025 14:59

Already said what they were they are not good enough for you the holiday police 😂 there's others but I won't be saying it for you to obsess over

Wrong 😂

Because OPs always tell the truth

SleepingStandingUp · 10/08/2025 15:19

Op if they've never been abroad then not taking them again really isn't an issue. Don't worry about it. You know what your kids like, where they feel safe, what if any support you have. So whether you do a UK holiday or you do some special days our or you stay home, do what's right for you and the kids and that'll be the right decision.
