Not taking kids on holiday

YouLoveberries · 01/08/2025 14:59

Has anyone decided not to take their children on holiday as a single parent? Even more so with the recent tragedy in the news about the two young children on holiday it’s just kind of confirmed it even more to me that it’s a bad idea and I don’t feel id be able to safely watch them on my own. (I know they weren’t single parents but still) how do you get over not going on holiday again? It’s already been 15 Years since I last went abroad and the uk is definitely not the same (sorry)

Then she doesnt need to its her decision. Not much point asking people on here if she doesnt want to go. I find everyone on here has SEN children and use it as an excuse for everything

Youre expecting strangers to make a decision about your life. If you dont feel like you can look after 2 children abroad then dont go its very simple. Im not sure how you manage in day to day life though. Children in general have to be watched and cared for whether they have sen or not 🙄

2 children? Who said I have 2. I’m not asking strangers to make a decision I asked if anyone else has decided not to go abroad you haven’t so move on I will be ignoring you from now on anyway. Cheeky B!

I don't actually believe at this point her kids do have SEN, in fact I'm not sure this is a real post tbh!
The story seems to change and SEN kids were only mentioned when the thread wasn't going her way!

It’s funny I posted this on a Sen group on Facebook and the comments are completely different, so many saying they don’t take their kids away even those with husbands 🙂

If it’s been 15 years since you last went abroad then I’m guessing you’ve already come to terms with that. So your choices are a quiet, maybe weekend, break in the UK, which shouldn’t be much different to looking after them at home for a few days, just a different location to look at, or no holiday at all and choose to spend the money on days out instead if your kids enjoy that. Presumably there will come a time when they can look after themselves, or you can at least get some respite, and you can have your break abroad.

I don’t see how a tragic accident in another country has any bearing on this. Your kids can have a tragic accident 10 minutes from home.

Jesus you are exceptionally rude. It's really no wonder some posters are giving you a rough time.

I've never taken dd abroad. She is nearly 12 and has some sen but more so because she has complex health issues. I appreciate thatbisnt the same as multiple kids with SEN, but her health means travelling abroad is difficult. To be fair traveling in the UK can be hard.

We go on holidays though. We have done Butlins, Haven, Airbnb, camping in a tent and Hotels in the UK. It's pretty much like being at home, you wouldn't take your eyes off them at home for long just like you wouldn't elsewhere.

Honestly inthink you are being a bit dramatic about it.
