I don't have a clue what mine is, I only pay attention to my a1c :S

SpottyTeacakes · 22/10/2014 21:09

Paddy I work at a doctors surgery so probably want to know too much Grin I might ask one of the drs tomorrow. My own gp said I would discuss it at my f/u with consultant but I didn't mention that's not until January.

xalyssx · 22/10/2014 21:28

Hi I'm Alyss and I've had t1 since I was 1.

mildatheart · 31/10/2014 14:12

Hello am now 24 weeks and suddenly finding my sugars very high. Is this the moment when your insulin needs suddenly go crazy? I thought it might be later.

ZylaB · 01/11/2014 10:14

Hey mild I'm 22 weeks and my insulin needs have been steadily increasing for quite a while now :). I did ask at the clinic and was told it's different for everyone and to just keep testing and altering insulin as required. Hope this helps!

paddyclampo · 01/11/2014 17:33

I needed at least 3 times as much as normal when I was pregnant! Needed more with my first (DS) than with my second (DD)

SpottyTeacakes · 02/11/2014 06:54

Lost you all! Has anyone heard of cgm in the cloud? My mil is looking into it as she's in New Zealand and wondering if it's worth endorsing to patients. Would appreciate any opinions especially from parents of diabetic dc.

paddyclampo · 04/11/2014 21:07

I don't know anyone in real life who has a CGM. Have read about them a bit on various forums. I think you have to use them in conjunction with a pump but I could be wrong? ALso I think you still have to do the finger pricks to check that both are in cahoots.

SpottyTeacakes · 04/11/2014 21:15

I think most people in the us, Germany, Australia etc have them don't they? I hate testing Hmm

paddyclampo · 08/11/2014 20:16

Hey have you seen those Freestyle Libre testing systems? You get a sensor fitted to your arm so no more finger pricks. I quite fancy getting one but think they're expensive.

SpottyTeacakes · 08/11/2014 20:30

£1250 a year apparently Angry

paddyclampo · 08/11/2014 21:12

Cheaper than self funding a CGM or a pump I guess. Don't think I could stretch to self funding a pump :(

Would go for one of those Libre things if I thought they were any good!

I won't get on my high horse about them refusing the pump Angry

SpottyTeacakes · 08/11/2014 21:18

Paddy my consultant said I could have a pump about six months ago, I'm so lucky that he's also diabetic and really understands things. I'm sure I'll be waiting another year to get it though. Is there anyway round it for you? I was ready to sit in my consultants room and cry until he let me have one but it didn't come to that. I feel really lucky to be getting one but why should I? It should be standard I'm Angry on your behalf (and mine as there's no guarantee I'll get one!).

Now I'm just cross I can't have cgm we definitely can't afford it. If it was a one off cost it would be different.

SpottyTeacakes · 09/11/2014 14:17

Eugh. I'm having a day of unexplained hypos.

paddyclampo · 10/11/2014 18:17

Nope, there's a guy he work with who's in the same boat (not at the same hospital as me). Apparently our control is too good!!!! I've given up hope to be honest.

Ironically, my nephew, who is also type 1, has been given a pump and tried it but hated it! He's very sporty and he said it gets in the way.

It makes me mad. They seem to give them out freely to people under 18. Yes diabetes is crap when you're a kid, but I can assure the powers that be that it is no less crap as an adult!! I did my time as a kid with diabetes in the days where even pen needles had to be paid for, finger prickers were like harpoons, and diabetes really did mean no sweets Sad.

Rant over!! My levels are weird today. I did a very long run this morning and now my levels are high!!! AAAAAARRGHHHHH!

How are you feeling now Spotty?

SpottyTeacakes · 10/11/2014 18:42

Having a much better day today thanks it's weird?

My hba1c is in the high sevens. My best is 5.8 so we know I can do it but it's just not working. I know the pump isn't a miracle cure but hopefully it'll make things easier in the long run.

I agree it's completely unfair under 18s get them right away many of us were diagnosed as a child, right?! Twice daily injections anyone? Confused

paddyclampo · 10/11/2014 18:52

Mine is usually in the low 6s but tbh I do have a fair few hypos because I run my levels on the low side, mainly cos I hate being high, the complications scare me. I think because my hypo awareness is reasonable they just seem to think I'm not worthy of a pump!

OMG yes, two injections of the mixed insulin with those syringes with orange caps!!! Having to eat bang on the same time every day, I don't know how we did it!!!! I hope the person who came up with MDI and novorapid received a medal!!!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/11/2014 17:33

Argh having a bad day!

Wake up 5.4
30g/3u
9.0 Hmm
90g/12u (fatty meal)
17!! Wtf?! It puts me in the worse mood ever. I don't even feel high which makes it worse Sad

Applefallingfromthetree2 · 19/11/2014 19:17

Spotty- the pattern you describe above is fairly normal for me. Up and down like a yo yo. It seems that my sensitivity to insulin and to food is high. It evens out in the end but each day is a roller coaster. It is just me-everyone's diabetes is different.

Incidentally I was on a pump for five years, my control was better on the whole but I didn't like wearing it. When the warranty ran out I decided not to accept the new model but to let someone else have a go so back on the injections. I don't really regret it. But am aware that I am probably in the minority.

Best wishes to everyone on here.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/11/2014 19:20

I'm wondering if I forgot to do my injection at lunch. I'm sure it would have been higher than 17 if I did but i can't be 100% sure...

paddyclampo · 19/11/2014 22:45

I'm glad it's not just me who forgets injections Spotty !! :)

SpottyTeacakes · 20/11/2014 06:00

I think we do them so often it's hard to remember if you're thinking of this morning or yesterday! I read about the new novo pen apparently it remembers your last dose which could be really handy

HellKitty · 20/11/2014 06:19

OH is type 1 for the last 30 years.
His sugars were 19 last night so I'm assuming he's about to come down with a cold, he never goes high.

As for DLA, he does claim it (and works full time). He was turned down but appealed and sent them a print out of his readings, including hypos. It's not much but covers me when I have to do the 3am Lucozade run.

mildatheart · 23/11/2014 16:07

I hate it when you forget to take a dose. The worst was when I accidentally pumped myself full of 14u of humalog after mistakenly thinking it was my night time basal. Cue panicky rooting out frozen pasta and sending DH to the takeaway for emergency carbs and coke.

paddyclampo · 11/01/2015 23:44

How is everybody? Hope you're all managing to stay away from all the bugs and viruses?
