What is it single men want?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but having been single on and off for 5 years post separation, I'm wondering whether I'm looking at the wrong age range (men my age) and should be looking younger. I'm not looking for marriage & definitely no more children, but I would like somebody who has the stamina to keep up and emotional depth to stick around for a while and appreciate my cooking and caring skills. As a single mum spontaneity can take some planning, but surely there are some men in the same boat too? Also, when did it become acceptable not to say why you aren't interested in a second date instead of just not making contact? I?m no supermodel-being on the curvaceous side-but I?m not fat, stupid or dull either. I work full time in a mainly female environment which doesn?t help, but why has the man I left for drinking & being sexless got himself settled and I?m still floating?

culturalmum - as a single man, I OFTEN ask the very same questions!! I am amazed, and sometimes a little jealous, when people seem to manage to drop into another set up so swiftly after a "heart-breaking-the world is ended for me- no-one loves me" separation!! And yep, it's usually guys who re-surface first with a new squeeze, rather than the gal. Except for celebs, who appear to manage to get into each other's underwear in time for the next magazine issue

ooh and the second date thing? Hasn't it always been so?? We are usually emotional cowards and find it difficult to be honest and say "I just don't fancy you", in case she a.turns nasty or b. slits her wrists in despair.....less bother to just ignore her and have an easy life.....

harpsichordcarrion · 05/10/2006 19:33

er.... sex?

maggiesmama · 05/10/2006 19:46

shall we start a mn dating site - fix up all the single parents?

LittleScarer · 05/10/2006 20:08

I feel exactly the same as evenmadderthanmadwoc (phew!), everyone else seems to move on faster than me and celebs are on bloody fast forward.

I haven't met a man I fancy for ages... so no advice really! I am sure there are some out there... somewhere...
