What are we doing here?

Hi guys...

Recently came off a thread with some really ugly man-bashing. Not pleasant.

It got me thinking: really, when it comes down to it, this is a site for women by women. Its even in the name Yes we are allowed to hang around but it I get the idea it is a tolerance thing. Yes you can muck around on chat but on many of the other topics you have to watch what you say, and your opinion is a bit suspect to many. Certain posters seem to even accuse apparently female posters of being a man in what seems to be a way to discredit them. I love some of the really great threads and posters but it kind of adds up to maybe thinking we are gate-crashing.

Question: should we really be hanging out here? Or do we 'really' belong over on some other more general board?

OP posts:

On some threads there's an element of hypocrisy but you get that in real life too.

I agree about the notion of MN being representative of women. It's no more representative than the football forum I use being representative of men. Or even Liverpool supporters! Grin

Cheeptrickortreat · 21/10/2011 18:12

Sorry for invading your thread Blush.

Sometimes i want to change my nickname and pretened to be a man on here just to see if there is a differece in the way people treat me.

My DH thinks that there are a lot of man bashing and men haters on here but i haven't seen any.

I agree with there being aresholes on here just as in real like and i think you just have to ignore the posts you dont like.

(I'm still waiting for the hide poster button Blush)

If the question isn't "why are we here?" but instead "why am I here?" then the answer is because every other dad-centric site out there dies after a few months.

'Build it and they will come' is a load of pish. Most guys go to gaming, football or car forums it seems leaving those of us who wish to talk about being a parent looking at our feet and shuffling out of the door if we open our mouths out of turn.

I just get fed up looking for other daddy-bloggers if I'm honest :)

TiggyD · 23/10/2011 19:53

I came here because I work in nurseries and wanted a Nursery Nurse voice on here.

Me being a man is incidental. How can you tell the sex of posters anyway? How many threads would it make sense to start your post with "as a man...". Admittedly, I don't really count as a proper man.

I've only had one bit of bashing on here and that was from a militant feminist. ("You can't trust anything on the internet as it was written by men")

Cheeptrickortreat · 23/10/2011 22:04

Sorry but TiggyD - if your a man your a man end of and you have an opioin that is valued just like anyone else.

I did have one female poster say she didn't post on threads where men posted, but like you said - how would you know Confused

Pan · 23/10/2011 22:13

yes, I am a TiggyD fan. So wear the boa with pride, and your job as a nursery nurse is admirable, imo.

not posting where men post? Really?

Cheeptrickortreat · 23/10/2011 22:24

Yep - i didn't get it either! I also didn't question her about it - what would be the point!

mummylin2495 · 23/10/2011 22:44

I like men on here ,especially pan Smile

Pan · 23/10/2011 23:54

hello you mummylin!Smile Are you fine? And your dancing g-d? dd has stopped her street dance, unfortunatly. She says she was 'bored' but me and her mother think something has 'gone on', but we only guess......is your g-d still dancing and in theatre? (iirc)

dd is now at Big School and really liking it, which is a relief! Her confidence has soared, and her sweetest of natures is blossoming. We are incredibly proud of her. And she knows it!

Pan · 23/10/2011 23:56

and she has introduced me to JessieJ, a singer, and I now have a JessieJ 'album'. In regard to her music I am trying very hard to NOT be like my dad with me!!

AnyPhantomFucker · 24/10/2011 10:50

hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

< hic >

Pan · 24/10/2011 12:02

AnyPhantomFucker · 24/10/2011 12:17

A bout of hiccups appeared from nowhere

I am ok now Smile

Pan · 24/10/2011 12:45

Excellent. I'll send over Jessie's new L.P. if this would help??Smile

AnyPhantomFucker · 24/10/2011 12:58

I think boogeying to Jessie J's long playing album might just put my back out, never mind bring on the hiccups..

TiggyD · 24/10/2011 14:19

One problem with having women invade Dadsnet is that I now feel intimidated when I post naked.

Cheeptrickortreat · 24/10/2011 16:14

TiggyD - as long as you dont PM us/post a photo of you posting naked, then i dont think we will mind Grin

AnyPhantomFucker · 24/10/2011 16:48

"invade" Dadsnet ?...this joint is as dead as a nightclub at 7pm

a few shifty-looking blokes milling around, nursing their halves of bitter, muttering about "albums" and playing with the loose change in their pocket

it needs livening up

< turns the glitter ball on >

TiggyD · 24/10/2011 17:03

It's just how we like it. We don't want a hoard of women coming in here and putting anti-madagascars on the backs of chairs and doilies under the battenburg!

Cheeptrickortreat · 24/10/2011 17:04

Passes round Wine

Puts handbag on floor to dance around.

Cheeptrickortreat · 24/10/2011 17:06

If we act like a man, can we stay? Its nice and quiet in here Grin

AnyPhantomFucker · 24/10/2011 17:08

anti madagascars ?

AnyPhantomFucker · 24/10/2011 17:09
