There are quite a lot of football fans on MN, and also loads of football-haters. If we hide here in Dadsnet, none of the detractors will find us. But if they do, they are welcome to come here and moan.

You don?t have to be male to post here, of course. (No-one would say women can?t post in the Dadsnet section, just like no woman would EVER say men aren?t welcome on Mumsnet?)

Footy fans please sign in with

Oh yeah, just aim for Van Persie's ankles if you want to finish fourth.

I didn't really follow the corner thing. Is that the conclusion - you CAN take a corner to yourself?

Haven't watched the Chelsea Liverpool game yet - prob just watch it on MOTD2 now that I know the score.

We need to get this thread going again! Good result for Newcastle tonight.

PansPeople · 04/01/2012 23:22

Thank you tower!

Excellent result for Newcastle! Whilst being a big Man U fan, I have a warm heart for 'port city' teams. ( Newcastle, us, Liverpool, err..Grimsby..).

neshnosher · 05/01/2012 05:24

I'm very pleased with last nights result because i', a product of a maine road upbringing.
Newcastle looked excellent and what a striker that Ba is.
Did anyone see the interview with him before the game where he said his favourite food was strawberry syrup you put on ice creams :)

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/01/2012 07:12

Yes! Some people are posting again.
Of course I'm a mackem so not pleased with Sports Direct Utd result. However Ba has to be the best buy ever. Can't believe Rooney has someone to take his coat on and off!

DanFmDorking · 08/01/2012 01:06

Barack Obama has announced that US defence spending will be cut to $660 billion a year, meaning that the USA no longer has the highest annual defence budget in the world.
That honour now goes to Manchester City.

Fulham football club was burgled last night and the entire contents of the trophy room were stolen.
The police have asked members of the public to be vigilant and report anybody trying to sell a 40ft square white carpet.

Nothing makes an FA cup like the minnows giant killing, so well done Spurs!

Tim Howard: "I can't take credit for that goal. The wind helped it in"
Manchester City are now preparing a £65million bid for the wind

Thierry Henry set to rejoin Arsenal after his insurance comes through.
Apparently there's a delay with the insurance of his left hand.

BelfastBloke · 08/01/2012 14:49

Well, isn't this an interesting Manchester derby in the FA Cup?

Are you around, Pan?

OP posts:
BelfastBloke · 08/01/2012 14:51

Thierry Henry was playing basketball in the USA, wasn't he?

OP posts:
PresidentWensleydale · 08/01/2012 15:52

city vs united was an excellent match, especially for a neutral supporter.
Did think Kompanys' red card was harsh though.
Love the FA Cup Grin

BelfastBloke · 08/01/2012 16:02

Undoubtedly harsh. Did you see Alex Ferguson laughing and patting Chris Foy
(the ref) on the back at the end of the game?

Are Citeh supporters going to slag off Sir Chris Hoy for refereeing decisions again, like Spurs fans did?

OP posts:
PresidentWensleydale · 08/01/2012 18:05

Had to switch over as soon as the final whistle blew so saw no post match stuff, tbh ref made some shocking mistakes coupled in with some correct ones but can imagine that city fans will certainly slag off Hoy.
Will watch highlights later though.
Nothing surprises me about Ferguson, am a toffee so my dislike of him has increased over the past few years
What do you reckon to the Rooney rumours?

PresidentWensleydale · 08/01/2012 18:06

Foy

KenDoddsDadsDog · 08/01/2012 19:02

Whoop we are through ! Boro next.

BelfastBloke · 09/01/2012 06:59

Today's the day!

The return of the (depleted) Thierry Henry!

OP posts:
KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/01/2012 22:19

And he scored!

BelfastBloke · 09/01/2012 23:07

Gawd bless 'im.

Everton Grin

Panfriedstardust · 11/01/2012 16:01

I even stayed up late at PanTowers to watch Henry score his goal. Just made it look effortless.

Nice to see Kompany's appeal has been refused. I said to my matey before game "will be won by the odd goal, Kompany will be sent off before half-time".

Focussing powers on lottery tickets now.

daytimedave · 11/01/2012 17:44

thought the kompany snding off was harsh, yellow tops

four game ban will hurt

BelfastBloke · 11/01/2012 19:13

If that's true that you said that to your mate, Pan, WHY did you zero in on Kompany as the one to be sent off? Does he have a reputation of which I'm unaware?

OP posts:
Panfriedstardust · 11/01/2012 19:41

ah - if you recall the World Cup Final, he was the one that karate-kicked Xavi. Or Iniesta. Or both. He's a bit of a bovver boy with a short fuse in the big game.( he's got an exrta match ban as it is his 2nd red card this season.) just reckoned Rooney and Danny Boy would get to him.

Dave - harsh? Two feet, with studs showing, off the ground. Harsh??

Oblomov · 11/01/2012 20:56

Am listening to Spurs Everton game on talksport.
The Henry goal was a beauty. Shame about Arshavin's missed 5 chances. Ha ha. He's practcially another Torres, isn't heWink
I still can't get over the Suarez thing. I mean even if he had said it, you never admit it , surely. very odd.
Didn't think the Kompany was a red. well unfair.

daytimedave · 11/01/2012 21:01

yup harsh

i dont think any of the players reacted when it happened

anyway, on a more positive note watchin the pool v manc c game, notice that city come back out to a joy division tune

now thats cool...
