Hoorah, just joined (team Downhill). Thanks as I didn't know you could join a league after the grand tour had started

NutellaEllaElla · 15/05/2021 16:05

Welcome, I see you are in contention for lantern rouge but I am currently running away with with it...

MrSlant · 15/05/2021 17:13

I'm feeling all humphy about Ewan leaving whilst in a jersey. As MrsAvocet says it's a very poor show and seems disrespectful to the race.

Welcome BookWoorm we even have our own emoticon BikeBikeBike

MrsAvocet · 15/05/2021 18:34

I'm feeling really old. Today's stage winner looks about 14.

BookWorm45 · 15/05/2021 18:49

Just looked up Lafay and he is in fact 25 even though his face looks to me like he should be doing his A levels. It's usually the opposite way where pro cyclists look older than they really are in the face (perhaps on account of having 0% body fat)

MrsAvocet · 15/05/2021 20:03

Yes that's true BookWorm.Lots of riders look older than their years. I don't think Nairo Quintana has ever looked young even when he was a neo pro. Same goes for Egan Bernal MVDP and WVA actually. They looked like seasoned pros when they were juniors. It probably is the low % body fat I guess.
Some are the exception though - I swear Esteban Chaves must have a dodgy portrait in his attic...

lljkk · 15/05/2021 20:11

Evenepoel looks about 14.

FelicityLemon · 17/05/2021 19:24

Nice result today. My team is looking in a lot better position. Bike

2 of my team have gone home already. I thought Grosssschartner had as well, but spotted him today so he must have just been hiding.

lljkk · 20/05/2021 19:48

Class ride by Vendrame
Amusing soap opera, Bambrilla & Bennett
I had a domestique in breakaway so glad he was part of the mix (Petilli)

EndoplasmicReticulum · 21/05/2021 15:14

Oh it's dull today. Zzzzzz.

BookWorm45 · 21/05/2021 19:33

Although did you see the bizarre event wh ere Gaviria's saddle fell off...

EndoplasmicReticulum · 22/05/2021 21:48

No I must have been asleep for that bit. Or got bored and wandered off.
Today was a bit more like it.

lljkk · 22/05/2021 21:57

Bernal very impressive. :)

Pan2 · 23/05/2021 21:35

Every time I switch on Giro it's binning it down and today was the worst! It's Italy in May, yet the riders get that.

Still no idea what happened at the crash, and still no idea why the race was neutralised. Can see why the breakers got a little hot under the helmets.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 23/05/2021 22:39

It's making me feel slightly better about our shit weather to know that it's no better in Italy.

lljkk · 24/05/2021 12:00

All the medical staff were stuck behind the crash -- all 3 ambulances had to take someone to hospital. Literally had to wait for reserve ambulances to get deployed. There was risk to the riders up the road if anything happened to them medical care was going to be many miles away ( = reason for neutralising).

The Giro weather has been shocking! DH knows all the elite (ex-)cyclo-cross riders in this Peloton & usually accurately predicts how well they can ride in the horrid conditions. Especially that gravel road stage ( strada bianchi )

BookWorm45 · 24/05/2021 15:29

Bernal did a super job in hideous weather today. Frustrated that the cameras couldn't show what I guess was him attacking in the final climb

FelicityLemon · 25/05/2021 09:42

Agonisingly I remain 4th. But am enjoying it regardless.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 26/05/2021 16:16

Exciting stage today! Helped by the fact that the cameras were working and we could actually see what was going on.

MrSlant · 26/05/2021 21:33

Was it good? New job and there is no way of following what's going on whilst I'm there, good old Dan, always have him on my team if he's around and he never lets me down, has to be one of my favourite riders too. Despite this again I linger near the bottom of the league.

lljkk · 26/05/2021 22:26

I predict FelicityLemon will win our league. I may end up 4th or 5th (very respectable after last year). You (current) top 4 are very competitive, though.

Tomorrow a day for Sagan or Gaviria to win the stage? Any predictions?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 26/05/2021 22:27

Yes - Dan Martin a worthy stage winner and Bernal being left behind - makes the next few days potentially a bit more interesting.

lljkk · 28/05/2021 22:32

I am feeling bemused that I reluctantly took Yates out of my team.
That move ended up being (with rejiggles) a swap for Bernal. All because I wanted to keep Bilbao who has been very boring in Giro. Next few days = squeaky bum time??!!

EndoplasmicReticulum · 28/05/2021 23:51

I was cursing Yates last week for not trying hard enough. He's doing the opposite this time to what he did a couple of years ago.
