Just booking to see Nutcracker at Christmas - what seats should I avoid? Thanks

The ones right round the sides of the amphitheatre have very restricted view - you can only see by leaning right forward.

CountessDracula · 17/11/2008 12:25

In fact I would avoid restricted view seats of which there are many

Amphitheatre best value and fine if you sit in the middle not too far back

MrsBadger · 17/11/2008 12:26

best seats are the front of the dress circle (with price to match)

from the back of the gallery you can;t see the back of the stage as the rake is too steep
front half of the gallery is better

from the slips you have to crane sideways and can;t see one side of the stage but they are cheapy mc cheap

watch out fo rthe 'restricted view' seat sbehind a pillar

MrsBadger · 17/11/2008 12:26

sorry 'amphitheatre' not 'gallery'

dinny · 17/11/2008 12:27

thanks CD, could you spare a mo to look here at tell me which seats you'd go for? www.roh.org.uk/booknow/reserve.aspx?perfid=6684#

want to spend about £100 for three...

OP posts:
dinny · 17/11/2008 12:28

and you, MrsBadger - have a look (will be me, my mum and 6 yo dd)

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 17/11/2008 12:31

well it is nearly sold out

not many 3s toghethr

I reckon row H in the amphitheatre is as good as you'll get

CountessDracula · 17/11/2008 12:34

I would go for H 69/70/71 if it were me

CountessDracula · 17/11/2008 12:34

snap!

MrsBadger · 17/11/2008 12:36

snap!

the photo previews on the layout thing are v useful - I hadn't realised how familiar I was with seeing the stage from the amphithetare. The view form the Grand Tier looks like a completely different theatre!

dinny · 17/11/2008 12:36

argh, can't see row H - what numver seat on the booking page is it ?

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 17/11/2008 12:37

click on amphitheatre

MrsBadger · 17/11/2008 12:38

choose section -> amphitheatre

at the top left of the layout there are four seats free - the end one has a dot in (restricted view). Roll the mouse over and it says 'PB10 AMphitheatre Row H seat 71'

dinny · 17/11/2008 12:41

right - hang on....

OP posts:
dinny · 17/11/2008 12:45

right, I have
Amphitheatre Right
Ticketed
H71, H70, H69

in shopping basket - that's what you two mean, right? (God, I love Mumsnet!)

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 17/11/2008 12:47

you've got it!

MrsBadger · 17/11/2008 12:47

yep, spot on

dinny · 17/11/2008 12:48

brilliant!

I am embarrassingly ignorant in such things theatre, generally - big THANK YOU

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 17/11/2008 12:51

(for the record and for future performances, we used to save money by getting four together including restricted view one and putting a parent in the cheap seat...)

NB how old is dd? It may be worth taking a booster cushion in case there's someone tall in front of her

and don;t forget your 20ps for the opera glasses

MrsBadger · 17/11/2008 12:52

ah you have said she is 6

less of an issue - she can always sit on all the coats

dinny · 17/11/2008 12:57

right, all booked - thanks for the help, really excited!

tis dd's well done pressie for taking her ballet exam!

MrsBadger · 17/11/2008 13:02

other top tips:

do not queue for ice creams

always buy a programme

take your own sweets - think Maltesers etc in the paper cups like you get at the cinema - no wrappers, nothing crunchy

dinny · 17/11/2008 13:08

it's been such a long time since have seen a production of anything other than local am dram - can't wait!

great tips - let me know of any more you think of!

OP posts:
dinny · 17/11/2008 17:12

are there any eateries you'd recommend near the ROH for early supper (with dd, who is 6)?

thanks!

Lauriefairycake · 17/11/2008 17:17

we're going to this - have a cheap, restricted view box - don't get why it's so cheap as it's directly above the Royal Box - can't be anything but the same view
