My DH and I have started going to the theatre Saturday matinees more regularly now our kids are older teens and we can leave them home alone on Saturday afternoons!!

We have booked Dracula so far as Australian friends have raved about it but wondering what else is coming out that people are excited about?

I’ve just seen Mattgew Boyrne’s The Red Shoes. It was fantastic, I highly recommend it.

Excellent, I'm going to it in a couple of weeks.

Just got back from Blood Brothers, superb.

Frannyisreading · 06/02/2026 09:14

I've now booked for Into the Woods, plus Summerfolk and The Misanthrope at NT.

Matthew Bourne fans might like to look at Car Man and Cinderella which are both coming later this year.

NigellaWannabe1 · 07/02/2026 15:00

Thanks @Frannyisreafing.I already had tickets for The Car Man but don’t know about Cinderella- I got tickets now!

I didn’t like Into the woods or American Psycho and have Dracula tonight which sounds like it’s having issues. I’m not doing well this year.

Oh I was wondering about booking Into the Woods, but wasn't sure if it would be for me. What didn't you like about it?

whatohwhattodo · 14/02/2026 17:06

Just seen Harold Fry. Had seen it mentioned and grabbed a last minute ticket 25 minutes before the show today. Had no ideal what to expect but loved it. Really emotional and I saw that as someone that usually has no emotion at all. There was some sniffing and eye wiping around me.

EnchantingDecoration · 14/02/2026 17:10

I'm going to see Harold Fry im a couple of weeks, so that's good to hear!

Saw Dear England this week and thoroughly enjoyed it, it was very strange seeing a play where all the characters are contemporary real life people and mostly well known, the voices and many of the appearances were spot on.

Has anyone seen The Spy Who Came In From The Cold? It's near here in a few weeks and I'm tempted.

LIZS · 14/02/2026 17:21

Anyone planning to see Shadowlands?

OldieButBaddie · 14/02/2026 17:32

Yes I saw the Spy who came in from the Cold
If you know the story it's good
I would imagine if you don't the first half would be very confusing. I love Soho Place and it was a good production

Saw Arcadia this week which was fabulous! I love the play and I liked the Old Vic in the round

We were booked for Playboy of the Western World, had to cancel due to illness and DD saw it last night and said it was very turgid.

We thought Inter Alia was very good (but not amazing)

End at the Dorfman was great, I nearly didn't go as I don't like Clive Owen but I was glad I did!

Going to Teeth'n'smiles, Clean Slate at Pleasance Theatre (which we saw at Fringe last year and loved so much, so clever and funny) in March, The Authenticator at the Dorfman, Liaisons Dangereuses at the Olivier (I think or is it Lyttleton) War Horse, which amazingly none of us has ever see and is returning to the National. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest at the Old Vic, The Story at the National.

Whoops, seem to have booked a lot! We are theatre obsessed though!

Interested in what you didn't like about American Psycho, I really wanted to see it but missed out on tickets!

LIZS · 14/02/2026 17:48

Also hoping to see Warhorse

GrethaGreen · 14/02/2026 18:12

I recommend the touring production on midsomer murder. I didnt have high expectations, but really enjoyed it.

whatohwhattodo · 14/02/2026 18:20

@EnchantingDecorationi saw Dear England last year. Really enjoyed it despite not liking football.

We saw it last week, a fun evening if unsure whether it was at times a deliberate parody of itself or trying to tell the story seriously!

I saw it a few years ago in Chichester

It is excellent.

EnchantingDecoration · 14/02/2026 19:30

@OldieButBaddie I think I’ll give The Spy Who Came in From the Cold then, partly because I don’t know the story, partly because Ralph Little is always going to be Neville for me too and partly because I am going to bankrupt myself at this rate and March is looking busy already.

I saw Warhorse about 10 years ago, it was superb, very emotional. Would like to see it again, but the bankruptcy thing!

Nighttimeistherightime · 14/02/2026 19:31

I go to the theatre loads with work and also take my daughters for pleasure! Both Dear England and Ballet Shoes are up there with the best productions I have ever seen. We have tickets for Jesus Christ Superstar in July and can’t wait.
Hate quite a few musicals- Wicked was in my opinion shocking, also Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but Matilda is worth every penny. I’ve seen Blood Brothers many, many times and it’s still a great production, although a bit dated and cheesy!

if you can see anything by or with Kerry Frampton from Splendid Productions (check out The Globe/Wannaker productions) you will not be disappointed- she’s a theatre genius, finally getting the attention she deserves.

I think it was meant to be a bit of both but I unexpectedly loved it.

Honestly it just wasn’t a patch on the original with Matt Smith. It had some shoehorned jokes about Epstein and a weird Trump impression which was very much Trump now, not the Trump of the 80s who was in the book, both felt icky, which is kind of mad given the subject matter.

I'm not based there, but when I lived in London, I went down there for productions a few times - I really like Chichester, I hope it's still nice.

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 15/02/2026 08:10

I’ve just booked Shadowlands- a Chichester transfer.

Man and Boy at the National was pretty dire, I ran away at the interval.

EnchantingDecoration · 15/02/2026 08:45

I’m within an hour drive of Chichester but haven’t been for ages, I didn’t know they have a new venue, I don’t seem to be on their mailing list any more.

I love Chichester too, used to go a lot when I was young. New venue is The Nest, it looks great and will bring a whole new dimension to their offering.

berlinbaby2025 · 15/02/2026 16:03

I'm going to see High Noon in the west end on Wednesday afternoon, my first west end show in more than a decade so I'm very excited.

As I'm out of the loop these days on cheap tickets, does anyone know how I can buy a reduced price ticket for this? There's lots of availability according to the website and although I could afford £80 for the ticket in the stalls, if I can get the ticket cheaper then that would be great.
