My DH and I have started going to the theatre Saturday matinees more regularly now our kids are older teens and we can leave them home alone on Saturday afternoons!!

We have booked Dracula so far as Australian friends have raved about it but wondering what else is coming out that people are excited about?

OP posts:

Othello and Into the Woods for me. Got my eye on Beetlejuice for the DDs.

AlbertCampion · 09/11/2025 08:58

Branagh’s Tempest, Cherry Orchard and Gatis in Arturo Ui - all at RSC. Death on the Nile on tour. Really want to book for Playboy of the Weatern World at the National!

Bohemond23 · 09/11/2025 08:58

Dangerous Liaisons with Aiden Turner and Lesley Manville at the National. We went to see Inter Alia right at the beginning of the run and Celia Imrie was sitting behind us.

jay55 · 09/11/2025 09:01

I’ve got into the woods next month so didn’t count for next year.

@FatCatSkinnyRatI saw American psycho first time round. But don’t remember much other than Matt Smith in his undies and some amazing choreography. As the seating is different this time, imagine the staging will be different.

@PrimSecim on mailing lists for everywhere. And have lots of theatre on social media and have to set reminders for booking. This week was mad for announcements.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 09/11/2025 11:50

I'm going to see Matthew Bourne's The Red Shoes and The Trocaderos in Edinburgh. I love ballet and my friend books(and pays for) our tickets. He's a sweetheart and loves ballet too. I'm very fortunate.

whatohwhattodo · 09/11/2025 13:01

I’ve got Greatest Showman booked for May - so excited. I live in London but booked and Air BnB for the night. Will probably end up seeing it again as my kids want to see it.

Trying to save money so haven’t booked anything else.

HarpQuartet · 09/11/2025 17:45

@Philandbill I've been to Austentatious twice, a delightful hoot both times.

@Bohemond23 I've booked for Dangerous Liaisons too, I'm expecting it to be a firecracker.

Habbyhadno · 09/11/2025 17:47

Into The Woods and Moulin Rouge booked so far, also want to book Hadestown and Mincemeat (and hopefully some non-musicals too)

gaggiavelasca · 09/11/2025 17:52

Got Road booked for February, Waiting for Godot in March, Singing in the Rain next month, Good Golly Miss Molly for April.

crappycrapcrap · 09/11/2025 18:20

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand

Matthew Bourne Red Shoes for me too!
I absolutely love his productions.

Id thought about Hunger Games but there’s awful reviews so might skip this.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 09/11/2025 18:40

This year we've seen a lot!

The Signalman, Tick Tick Boom, Hairspray, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, An Inspector Calls, Blood Brothers, Book of Mormon and Hamilton. Oh and Showstoppers, which is improvised from audience suggestions - very clever and very good.

I've just booked a theatre-based trip to London for DD2 and I to fit in just before Christmas.

We have booked Ride the Cyclone (niche and odd!), Phantom of the Opera and Stranger Things First Shadow.

Touring productions we have booked for next year so far are Rocky Horror Picture Show, Our Town with Michael Sheen, Cats and Little Shop of Horrors.

I'm waiting on news for where and when 9-5 and Heathers will tour as I'll be booking those when it's announced.

PatriciaHolm · 09/11/2025 19:37

We have, I think -

playboy of the western world (tbf that's Dec)
hunger games
when we are married (Donmar)
othello (David harewood)
man and boy (National theatre)
American pyscho
branagh's Tempest
Arcadia
resistable rise of arturo uri
Driftwood (rsc)
Ivanov (Chris pine)
Cherrt orchard RSC (Branagh and Helen hunt)
liaisons dangereuses (National theatre)
summer folk (NT)
Authenticator (NT)
Henry V (RSC Branagh)

DP is member of pretty much all of the theatres so gets presale access, and most of them are reasonably good re. Returns - National Theatre for example will always take tickets back and give credit, and we go so often that that is fine. Donmar and Almeida are good too.

DP lives for the theatre and live music!

PatriciaHolm · 09/11/2025 19:42

Inter Alia was excellent - though hard hitting if you are a parent of late teens (I took DD, 21). Forgot we have The BFG too, over Christmas.

haven't seen hunger games reviews - oh dear!!

lynnebenfieldshandbag · 09/11/2025 20:00

@PhilandbillI’m not a member but booked the day they went on release to non-members. I am a huge lifelong fan of Branagh so was desperate to go. Sadly can’t afford to do the Cherry Orchard too but Shakespeare would always be my first choice.

whatohwhattodo · 09/11/2025 20:04

Ooh I am going to see waitress as well - forgot that one.

partystress · 09/11/2025 20:13

Saw InterAlia streamed and it was so good I’ve booked to see it live. All My Sons - love Arthur Miller and it’s a great cast. An interesting looking new musical called Coven at the Kiln, and keeping to the witch-hunt theme, John Proctor is the Villain.

Comefromaway · 09/11/2025 20:15

I’ve got Miss Saigon tour, Something Rotten & Beetlejuice booked so far. I plan on getting Jesus Christ Superstar booked too.

Anna20MFG · 09/11/2025 20:19

Hadestown
Tempest
Othello

Booked

Now thinking about Inter Alia as well.

berlinbaby2025 · 09/11/2025 20:41

Road and A Little Night Music (Manchester).

In London:

American Psycho
Man to Man
Avenue Q (saw it in 2006 and highly recommend to anyone who hasn’t seen it)

Clive Owen is in a play called End at the National Theatre and I’d like to see that in January before it finishes.

I would love to see Art and hope the version that’s playing on Broadway transfers to the west end.

MissyB1 · 09/11/2025 20:56

To kill a mockingbird - in a couple of weeks.
Hoping to see Jesus Christ Superstar.

Saw 2:22 a Ghost Story in half term - brilliant!

Justwanttobebythesea · 09/11/2025 20:57

Following for ideas

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 09/11/2025 21:30

Turandot
Into the Woods
Playboy of the Western World
Summerfolk
Man and Boy
Liaisons Dangereuses
Henry V

After Henry V nothing as this is Dd's GCSE year, so it feels mean to be out gallivanting without her and I don't want to commit her to anything during the exams. If I were able I would book Vincent in Brixton at the Orange Tree, and thinking I might take her to Hadestown when the exams are done.

Cynic17 · 09/11/2025 21:42

I've already booked for Branagh in both The Tempest and Cherry Orchard - can't wait.
Also booked for Ralph Fiennes in a new play, Grace Pervades.
On a completely different note, we're excited to see The High Life with Alan Cumming & all the original cast - should be hilarious.

I quite fancy Jesus Christ Superstar, as it's by far the best ALW musical.
But I'm sure there are more good things to come, not yet announced.... we are so lucky with our theatre in the UK.

Silverbirchleaf · 09/11/2025 21:42

PrimSec · 09/11/2025 08:45

Going to Sorry Prime Minister. DH and I have been fans of the original series for years.

Where does everyone get their news on what’s coming up for booking? I seem to always read articles about “xxx opening next month” and by then all tickets are gone!

There’s various theatre sites.

Official London Theatre
Whats on Stage
Love Theatre

Also, join the theatres (or groups if theatres) have their own sites.

stomachamelon · 09/11/2025 21:43

Going to see fiddler on the roof this week.
All my sons in March at the Wydenham with Bryan Cranston and Marianne Jean- Baptiste
