My DH and I have started going to the theatre Saturday matinees more regularly now our kids are older teens and we can leave them home alone on Saturday afternoons!!

We have booked Dracula so far as Australian friends have raved about it but wondering what else is coming out that people are excited about?

Off to the Panto next month and will book for next year once we get home! It never fails to be a fun experience!

Silverbirchleaf · 09/11/2025 21:46

Booked to see Barnum with Lee Mead, touring production. Loved Barnum with Michael Crawford back in the day (and still rate it as one of the best theatre shows I’ve seen).

Not booked anything in London yet, but may book Jesus Christ Superstar , but fear the prices may be extortionate.

Comefromaway · 09/11/2025 21:52

I forgot about panto. We are going on Boxing Day as the only way Ds can come home for Christmas Day is if we drive him back on Boxing Day.

rumtumtuggeris · 13/11/2025 17:10

@Cynic17

Also booked for Ralph Fiennes in a new play, Grace Pervades.

I want to see this too. I considered going to see it in Bath but then decided it was too expensive (would have needed a night in a hotel).

I hadn't realised it was transferring but I just went to see Othello at the Haymarket and the theatre was full of adverts for Grace Pervades which was a pleasant surprised as I regretted that I didn't make the effort to see it in Bath. I really like Miranda Raison as well.

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 19/11/2025 23:12

I'd like to go and see Les Ballets Trocadero de Monte Carlo, they are on tour in the UK in 2026. Also the Royal Ballet are performing Giselle. Bit of a theme going on here, isn't there?😁

ElizabethVonArnim · 21/11/2025 17:03

So far got tickets for Arcadia and Les Liaisons Dangereuses - very excited for both of these. Would love to see Inter Alia but think that ship may have sailed. Interested in Owain and Henry but it is a huge trek for me. This is a great thread!

rumtumtuggeris · 21/11/2025 18:09

I'd like to go to this Tales from the TOP Ian McKellen, Judi Dench and the current leads in Macbeth discussing Macbeth but it's a fundraiser for the RSC so tickets are out of my budget. I don't suppose anyone here is going? I'd love to hear all about it.

Join us for an exclusive and intimate fundraising event, Tales from TOP, featuring Ian McKellen and Judi Dench, joined by our current Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, Sam Heughan and Lia Williams.

Sam and Lia are currently starring in Daniel Raggett’s acclaimed production of Macbeth at TOP — the very space where, in 1976, Ian and Judi performed in Trevor Nunn’s legendary staging of the Scottish Play.

Join all four of our actors for a Q&A hosted by Fiona Lindsay where they will discuss life, theatre and their respective productions of Macbeth.

I’ve got Othello, a Christmas Carol Goes Wrong, Matilda, Paddington, Beetlejuice, the Playboy of the Western World and Teeth n Smiles with Self Esteem

We live in Nottingham so tend to double up on visits to make the most of it

Elevenseconds · 26/11/2025 14:27

I'm recently back from seeing Othello and it was... OK.

Lots of script changes and edits, and Toby Jones (whilst excellent) is so tiny that you sort of feel a quick slap would have sorted him out. Lots of old-fashioned staging with minor male characters standing on the edge of the set gormlessly for minutes on end, whilst action happens centre stage.

Emilia was excellent. If you're dithering about whether or not to get a ticket, I'd probably save my money for something else.

Livingthedream1978 · 26/11/2025 14:31

We have booked Jesus Christ Superstar tickets for next year. Saw it 25 years ago and it was amazing! Also bought a ticket for my mum for Christmas.

Also have plans to book Six and finally see Les Mis at some point.

I'm someone who can rarely afford to go to the theatre, however I have found a loophole of sorts as I volunteer at my local one!
Yes it's work but I do get to see shows which I wouldn't ordinarily see and can pick and choose which shows I'll do.
It does mean I watch often stood up or a restricted view but for me I'll take it.

FatCatSkinnyRat · 26/11/2025 21:01

We saw All My Sons last night - if you are unsure if you should go, please go! Just brilliant, full standing ovation at the end and much deserved.

I’ve also booked Jesus Christ Superstar. Didn’t think the tickets were too badly priced, not horrendous compared to some.

Love this!

We have found some good seats in the circle at our local theatre that are £13.00 meant to be restricted view of high scenes but we have never missed a thing.
Sadly only a handful of them so have to be quick!

Comefromaway · 26/11/2025 22:50

JCS booked. Need to book a blood Brothers too. It’s expensive for a tour but Ds is playing for one of the venues.

We saw the Blood Brothers tour a couple of weekends ago and it was brilliant.

Comefromaway · 27/11/2025 10:10

My parents saw it when ds did his sit-in (deputy players have to do a sit-in with a current player before they can perform) and they enjoyed it.

I’m going to see Kenneth Branagh’s Tempest in Stratford and I can’t bloody wait! Going with my best mate and we’re going to make a mini break of it.

Soo jealous I missed out on tickets for that.. I did get tickets for the Resistible rise of Arturo Ui with Mark Gatiss though..

I've heard it is brilliant. I'm going this weekend and am really looking forward to it. Next year I've booked:
Playboy of the Western World
Les Mis
Our Town with Michael Sheen
Barnum

I go as often as I can. I had got it into my head that it was super expensive and of course many of the tickets are but I always book cheap seats up in the Gods and haven't had a bad seat yet.
For those of you who have booked Fiddler on the Roof you are in for a real treat. I saw it at the Barbican and it was amazing.

Such fond memories of seeing Michael Crawford in Barnum many years ago..

Can’t wait, I’m going in Jan 26.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 02/12/2025 16:32

Going to see Paranromal activty in January so very curious to what that be like.

Saw Enfield haunting at same theatre last year and it was terrible so hopefully nothing like that!

Undergroundovergroundwomblingfree · 02/12/2025 21:20

If you get a chance to see All My Sons, go. It was absolutely brilliant and felt more relevant than ever.

sakura06 · 02/12/2025 21:37

I’ve booked Operation Mincemeat and I’m hoping to see Beetlejuice with DD.

Ride the Cyclone at Southwark Playhouse Elephant was fantastic! Dark premise though so not for everyone. I’m hoping to see the next production there too: Ballad Lines.
