My DH and I have started going to the theatre Saturday matinees more regularly now our kids are older teens and we can leave them home alone on Saturday afternoons!!

We have booked Dracula so far as Australian friends have raved about it but wondering what else is coming out that people are excited about?

Have you been yet? Be interested to hear what you think!

We went a couple of weeks and felt it was dated. Self Esteem was fabulous..we've seen her a couple of times...but thought the actual play wasn't great. A few people didn't return for 2nd half. At least the tickets were a reasonable price!

partystress · 03/04/2026 08:12

Just booked for The Orestaia at The Bridge. Wasn’t a fan of Into The Woods, but otherwise never seen anything there that I didn’t love.

Would love to see Jesus Christ Superstar, having seen it about 45 years ago, but can’t find a seat for under £190 😩

I agree with all of that.

I loved the cast, and had they replaced much of the stilted parade of discursive exchanges with more songs / band performances it would have been better!

I can see that if it’s time it was an interesting piece as 60s idealism was replaced by the 70s, and as an early play by Hare it was structurally flawed.

I wasn’t emotionally engaged at all.

But I had a good seat for £26 and enjoyed Self Esteem’s performance.

Booked Jesus Christ Superstar for July last week but nothing else booked until then and starting to get the itch.

I keep getting ads for The Cherry Orchard with Kristin Scott Thomas which I like the sound of. Anyone else made any more bookings?

Undergroundovergroundwomblingfree · 14/04/2026 17:01

I LOVED Harold Fry and have been very tempted to go again this week

I agree, and most of them I haven’t heard of before.

I saw it this afternoon - it's great! I've read the book and saw the film

MakeTeaNotWar · 14/04/2026 22:21

I’ve got a matinee ticket to Glengarry Glen Ross in June at the Old Vic. I’m going to take a half day from work & I can walk to the theatre from the office

berlinbaby2025 · 19/04/2026 07:25

I saw Broken Glass a few days ago at the Young Vic. I’ve been there before but didn’t know about the lucky dip tickets they sell, so I thought I’d save some money and get one of those. It’s not much of a gamble since the theatre is quite small. I had a good seat four rows from the front and mostly enjoyed the play. Such a great bargain for £12.50.

For many reasons I probably won’t be back in London until the end of the year and I hope to see Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf at the Soho Place theatre.

JennyWreny · 30/04/2026 16:15

We enjoyed Dracula a few weeks ago, although I do think it could have been better if they ironed out the long awkward pauses where Cynthia is waiting for the pre-recorded Cynthia to reply. Also a bit distracting to be able to see an autocue in the wings, we were sitting quite near the front - it wouldn't have been visible from further back.

Looking forward to Romeo and Juliet in a couple of days.

I've also now booked Hunger Games (low expectations), Paddington and The Lives of Others (high expectations!)

LIZS · 30/04/2026 19:27

Finally saw Shadowlands yesterday, £30 rush tickets via Todaytix. Well acted and interesting staging.

Cynic17 · 02/05/2026 12:31

Well, I've booked for "Amadeus" in London next year.
And I see that Sonia Friedman is bringing a revival of "Rent" to the West End later this year..... I would love to see that!

HarpQuartet · 02/05/2026 13:25

I've booked for Amadeus too, @Cynic17 even though the price was a bit of a shocker. Come the day, I'll probably wish I'd spent £40 more and be nearer the front, but right now £60 is plenty.

ODFOx · 02/05/2026 13:50

DS saw Operation Mincemeat last night and called me after 11pm to recommend, so we’ve got tickets for later in the year.

My teen ds saw it recently and recommended it to us too.

IdRatherBeAtTheTheatre · 02/05/2026 15:06

I feel like I have found my people!

Operation Mincemeat is brilliant, seen it twice in London and have tickets for the tour booked later this year.

I also have coming up (in the next couple of months) I'm Sorry Prime Minister (tour), Come From Away (local amateur production), BeetleJuice (London), Thespians (tour) and Something Rotten (Manchester). I'm debating Showstopper when it comes locally as well, I've seen it many times before but it is different every time and always a great laugh.

Yesterday I booked some tickets for Christmas Carol Goes Wrong for January in London. It's fun to have things to look forward to. Haven't told the DC yet - Christmas surprise!

I'm also hoping to get some kids week tickets when they go on sale in June, it's our last year but we've seen some great productions over the years.

jay55 · 02/05/2026 18:13

Saw The Greatest Showman today in Bristol and loved it. Could use a bit of work but it was such a fun watch. And it remains on my shows I’m looking forward to listening to as it will be transferring.

Sloelydoesit · 02/05/2026 20:55

Saw One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest this afternoon. Absolutely incredible. Cried and came out emotionally exhausted! If you have it booked you're in for a treat

partystress · 03/05/2026 09:08

Saw 1536 for the second time last night at the opening of the west end transfer. It is blisteringly good. Check the content warnings, but if you want a really clever take on how little misogyny has changed, I highly recommend.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 04/05/2026 18:31

Operation Mincemeat is touring near me, so we are off to see that for the first time on Wed. Then we have the dubious delights of Jason Donovan as Frank in Rocky Horror in Liverpool.

We've also got
Rocky in Chester later in the year with (the much better) Stephen as Frank.
Sweeny Todd in Birmingham in the summer.

Heathers in Blackpool on Halloween.

Little shop of horrors in Liverpool at Christmas.

In Aug I've got a theatre break in London booked with DD2. We have booked...
Deathnote.
Ride the Cyclone.
Phantom.
Moulin Rouge.
Hades Town.
Les Mis and
Beetlejuice.

Out of those, we've seen Phantom and Cyclone before but the rest will be first time viewings.

Comefromaway · 04/05/2026 18:43

We saw Operstion Mincemeat last week. Got Bank of Dave booked next week.

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 04/05/2026 20:55

I have just booked to see Arcadia again (absolutely loved it at the Old Vic in February) and the RSC Cyrano de Bergerac. Both in the summer once DD’s GCSEs are done. And we’re going to Macbeth and Merry Wives of Windsor at Bard on the Beach in Vancouver in August.
